*This is a largely unedited video of a spontanteous performance of the Zaouli dance of the Guoro people of Côte d'Ivoire** so I wanted to show all of the imperfections of filming the show!

The dance is unreal, but, as my first look at the Ivory Coast, THE FABRICS are beautiful. From the drummers shirt, the scarf on the dancer, some of the background clothes, the little girls wrap skirt in the very beginning . Wonderful textiles!

The world's finest drummers and drums are in West Africa. As a child the beautiful sounds of drums from nearby village was like a lullaby at night.

I wonder how many generations this dance has been handed down. It is definitely not random motions, the music and motion go together for the entire dance. Beautiful!

thats exactly what i thought... maybe not too old if the prev comment is right, but definitively that sounds makes me think of very ancient and the most primitive sounds... it feels like it hides some kind of charm... our unconciouss reacts to it...

To me, this fellow is the best dancer, with the best rhythm, on any of the videos I have watched. His upper body is as still while his feet and legs are flying. Truely amazing.

@@AmoebaInk I do. Both type dances look physically tough to perform well. Imagine these Zaouli dancers, with light shoes and taps on them, on a hard floor.
Just amazing people! From what I understand--may be wrong--but the dancer is not dancing to the drummers; it's the other way around: the drummers follow the dancer. And, for me, that makes it even more mind blowing.

Their cultures were stolen from most of them it’s only recently they’re learning and taking it back, many were told by white’s that it’s not allowed and they got punished..
Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire should have been one country because we speak similar local languages and cultures. Only the French and English people have created colonial barriers between us. I miss my days over there. Greetings from Ghana.

@@denisshillingford5891 I understand the bores that was imposed by colonial rule. Why did the Africans allowed themselves to be ruled by Europe. And before and during and after that borders, Africa has always plagued by tribal warfare. Here in Africa we always wants stuff that we did not work for. Even to this day. "We demand."
Absolutely amazing to see how others live and how we can cry about not having the newest phone or something like that. Thanks for filming this. Dang he doesn't even get a round of applause.

Awwwww,....shheeeeet!! I, absolutely, love me some Zaouli !! I love this dance, everything about it, and especially that the whole family, and tribe, are there to enjoy! Beautiful! I wish that we had this kind of community spirit in the united States today. The television killed this kind of thing a long time ago 😢

There is a perfect synchrony between the stomps and the drums.. awesome!
Just alone the music is much more elaborated an harmonious than Mozart, Bethoven, Wagner and all the other stuff. And this Dance please me more than any western ballet. It`s an gift from Africa to the world.

More elaborated and harmonious than Mozart ... aren't you slightly exagerating ???😂 But you have the right to have not studied Mozart and - overall - to have, apparently, never listened his creations more than 30 seconds.
Mesmerizing! Love the dance! The dancer knows all the inflections of the song, he/she almost acts as a conductor at times. Seen other videos where dancer is spurred by someone close by. Thanks for sharing!

Venez donc retrouver la terre de vos ancêtres svp je suis également de ce pays de la Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮 je traverse les villes de cette culture Gouro du nom de boaflé traversée par le fleuve comoé rempli de poissons frais et fumés de toutes bonnes qualité de mon pays ou je m’arrête par exemple à chaque séjour au bled dans l’une des villes de cette merveilleuse communauté souvent pour faire mes courses de nourriture vivrière à chaque fois avant d’arriver dans ma ville natale qui est daloa pas loin de la et a plus de 300 km de la capitale Abidjan … c’est un réel plaisir un peuple accueillant et aimant que dieu préserve la côte dans sa diversité originale qui fait sa force

Did anyone see what I saw on the mask,a serpent on the left side and a bird on the right hand side of the mask,its identical to crones of the pharaohs of Ancient Kemet(Egypt) and Nubia(Ethiopia).

I can't even imagine how much energy and calories you have to burn to maintain the rhythm of that dance as long as they do doing that for 5 minutes alone would burn 5 Lbs of body fat.

Love the children in the beginning. One little guy just staring into the cam then the girl in the back moving as the cam pans. This dance is incredible. It's great that it's done with bare feet. I see a lot of drums but am curious about the high pitched wooden flute type instruments. Great video!
