LA Clean Streets - Massive Illegal Dump Cleanup

Out of all the cleanups I've been to, this is probably the hugest and most disgusting I've documented. What wasn't captured in the video was the whole alley was literally a heap of trash. This illegal dumping was reported earlier in the week but obviously this has been sitting in the alley for weeks maybe even months.
Clean Streets/ CARE+ have been working all throughout this pandemic, for anyone that lives in LA and wonders why they can't clean up an entire encampment/illegal dump these days is solely because of the pandemic, officials believe that it will be less of a hazard if they clean around homeless encampment, but to me it seems like it's even more of a hazard if crews don't. It was for sure an interesting cleanup to watch and film not only because of the size but if you look closely from time to time in the video you'll see a rat the size of a shoe run out of the pile.
Huge thank you goes out to this crew featured, they were called out to this encampment and got straight to business despite the amount. If you're watching this I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching!

Damn, what a mess! I’d be sending the entire bill right on over to the flower shop, because clearly most of that came from them, and they had no shame in piling more on as they were cleaning it up. It’s pretty cool that you’re able to film these cleanups, because one like this would almost be hard to believe without the video to prove it was there!

You can tell by the cardboard where most is coming from. The flower shop should have a huge fine. There is no excuse for that mess, they should have their own container for cardboard which can then be recycled.

There seems to be more to this than just the flower shop massively dumping cardboard illegally which was shown in the video. I wonder if any of that cardboard was recoverable, or if it's all going to landfill or incinerators because it's contaminated? If a shop had this much cardboard in my area they would receive a bin exclusively for cardboard and maybe one for green waste too. In addition to the general waste bins. If there was a lot of cardboard, they could have benefited greatly from a roll-on roll-off compactor which would have kept most of the rubbish contained properly. This smells like mismanagement of trash handling and failure to follow procedures. There's also a small chance the flower shop owner passed away and the estate mishandled all the trash cleanup.

This would have been the perfect GoPro hopper video! I can see how the rear bucket attachment comes in handy in tight areas like this, I imagine New Way engineered those specially on order for the city. So the guy who brings the bobcat on the dump truck is also the operator of the bobcat? It seems like a bit of a waste to have that open body dump truck not be used for anything but hauling the bobcat around. How many of those pairings do they have? In your conversation with the worker guy did you ask how bad this was compared to the other ones they've seen? I had to laugh at the comments because it is pretty obvious where most of this stuff came from. Sucks that the taxpayer has to clean up after these people. Meanwhile my grandmother (who owns a flower shop in Boston) has to pay Republic a premium for separate organic waste collection.

I'm just staggered it didn't smell. There was so much cardboard it was ridiculous. Well those fat rats would be looking for food for a while, - pity the 'flower shop' didn't sell food - they might be getting a lesson in a few 'unwanted' visitors. I love the CAT skid steer although I think I prefer the "jaws" that open out wards as opposed to the ones fitted, although I suppose both types suit different jobs. They need to put some 'cameras' in that 'alley' and notices up stating "Any people Illegally dumping will face a Heavy Fine" - I think ours start at £1,000 and/or their vehicle crushed and a 3 month prison sentence for the 1st offence. It's surprising how fast it has stopped it in the UK, - (where I live).

All this garbage left behind is a major fire hazard. How many thousands of illegal encampments and illegal dumps have started fire over a careless cigarette or some stray spark in the bone dry California heat? LAFD must be run off their boots with all these messes. This is clearly a one time major city cleanup campaign where the city has to spend a lot of extra money hiring sub contractors to pickup the trash. Where they take the trash, is anyone's guess.
