The 1840s portrait in the opening is of a ballerina whose stage name was Albertazzi. Her speciality was a fiery rendition of The Cachucha. I do not know enough about the origins and versions of this dance to make any decisive comments. Except that this seems to be a very tame performance.

Do you possibky know who choreographed this "Cachucha" version and how the melody used in "Paquita" (pas -des-manteuax) appeared in this score?

cierto,¿ qué le notamos los españoles? -LA FORMA QUE ADOPTA EL CUERPO PARA PODER TOCAR LAS CASTAÑUELAS ES DISTINTA -deben aprender a toar las castañuelas si no no serán capaces de bailar danza española

Funny this dancer does not play the castanets. When we learn Bolera Style dance, we do play the castanets. :)

Yes you are right. Traditionally the Cachucha is a duet dance for man and woman.

so charming .... and very sexy for the 19th century, in some countries having a glimpse on a woman's ankles was audacious !

Mucha gente no se educa en el estudio de la castañuela. En Don Quijote también pasa esto muchas veces.

after your comment, you must be hating don quijotte as a ballet performance. so much lack of style and also skill with "castanuelas" in this ballet. very tragical.

Me parece que tenéis muchas ganas de polémica. Solamente constaté un hecho. Por otro lado, Don Quijote está inspirado en España, pero no es danza española, mientras que la cachucha sí.

I'm sure she's very technically excellent, but I think her arms are not rounded enough, throughout, like much of contemporary ballet. Wearing the proper shoes would have helped. The expression of the arms has to open from the heart, not come from the shoulder.
