L322 4.4TDV8 vs 5.0 SC Part 2: The Turbocharged

Hi Guys, James here at Full Fat 4x4.
Welcome back for part 2 of the 5 Litre Supercharged vs 4.4 TDV8 L322 Comparison.
Today I'm taking a 62 plate Indus Silver Westminster up to EH Douglas to have it's brake lines sorted - I thought I'd share my thoughts on the 4.4 TDV8 while I'm at it.
It's been all go at Full Fat 4x4 with various bits of prep work and a new roof on HQ!
If you are looking for something a bit newer than the L322 - you are probably considering an L405 - Matt ‪@HighPeakAutos‬ has done a great buying guide for the L405 which you can find here: • Which Range Rover Shou...
I still think there is a bit of downward travel in the L405 market but they are starting to look like great value.
I'll be doing a "latest stock" video shortly so stay tuned for that - however if you are thinking about buying a 4.4 TDV8 L322 drop me an email at fullfat4x4@gmail.com

Great video James. This just confirms I made the right choice in my 2012 Westminster 4.4tdv8 😉 I'm also glad I live nowhere near a ULEZ zone, even though, as you say it shouldn't make much difference anyway.

Really useful info in this vid. I thought I was pretty well up on the various foibles, but I didn’t know about the drainage recall; was good to get your thoughts on that.

Great video, that works for the ULEZ in England, in Scotland there is a blanket ban on any non euro 6 diesel now in all cities, there is no option to pay to enter the zones.

Also in Australia. Our L494 Sport with the 4.4 SDV8 has the DPF but thankfully no add blue. The DPF Hasn't given any problems so far (touch wood). We love this machine.

Yep. Boot it above 2500rpm regularly to drain the oil from the secondary turbo 😊 Much safer than drilling into the sump to tap for fitting the drain mod.

Is that actually a thing? Someone else told me to give the 4.4 some death to keep it happy!

Interesting points covered here. I had the oil drain service bulletin done as part of the deal when I bought my 2012 4.4 in 2017 which I was happy about because it's not a no-charge bulletin and normally cost over €1000 at a main dealer. Still going strong now at 130k miles and I love it although I am about to have the oil cooler replaced as it's starting to leak slowly.

According to Harry Metcalfe the 3.6 feels quicker than the 4.4 tdv8 due to its turbos boosting together rather than sequentially and after you mentioned that it doesn't have a dpf, surely a facelift 3.6 is the sweet spot. Viideo on 3,6 please !

I was you, had my D3 before I got my 4.4. Plan was to sell the D3, I didn’t, now I’m running both 😛. Both have their benefits
