Why does the Bhutan route was not used for trade with Tibet, if the English wanted to trade with Tibet? It was the shortest route to Lhasa. How does Bhutan remain at peace? I am missing something here.

Laahasa Is far away From Mainland tibet. Whereas through nepal you will Get access to highland and Central tibet Directly with easy established Routes.

Bhutan Tibet route is not very amenable to travel. Even today Indian travellers prefers Sikkim route for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
