Belfortain rattaché a la France par la Franche-Comté nos cœurs si trouve rattaché par la raison. Seul territoire de métropole nous avons donner nos vie pour la France notre patrie d'adoption !

Yes, this version of the song is immoral (sad for such a beautiful melody). But other collected versions (about half it seems) contain a suitable moral, including this stanza: "The sheep on the plain, Is in danger from wolves; And you, and you, young girls, You are in danger of love."
