Hard to find similar highest value of performance for such a hard play... What she did was a magnificent performance, I would say divine but is s still human... She has proven the goodness of Creation!

The orchestra is exhausting to listen to - so ponderous, so rote. Then the young soloist begins & the music takes flight. Kyung Wha Chung was always brilliant, wasn't she.

Listened to this for the umpteenth time trying to hear what you and others find lacking in the orchestra. I woke up with this playing in my head this morning and thought how fine they were. especially like the 2nd violin. He just looks the part too. Perhaps the age of the recording being, I suppose analog, just doesn't match the technique of our modern age.

That's a good point, dennbo49. Try listening to the Tchaikovsky, recorded in the same time frame. Could be the recording quality, and yet the orchestra seems more inspired.

For a great example of an inspired orchestra giving inspires performances check Maestro Chung and the Seoul Philharmonics performances of Beethoven's 3rd. and 5th. Symphonies. Simply incredibly good.

@house3721holder Not to diminish from Ms. KWC, of course, or from anything you wrote. But isn't an orchestra of two or three dozen musicians by necessity -- and almost by definition -- more "ponderous" than a solitary soloist? On the other hand, however, as for the rote aspect that you mentioned -- I cannot offer any defense of that.

Thank you for always uploading videos and footages of Miss. Chung. These are so precious for fans like me. She is and will be my FAVORITE violinist for life.

Kyung Wha Chung was so beautiful and one of the greatest violinists ever...she's 22y/o in this performance.

....there are so many beautiful interpretations of this beautiful breathtaking peace of art. However, this one is - for me - the one with most soul, I have to cry listening to it, and I don't stop doing so...😢

Thank you for sharing such a rare gem. A great example of a young virtuoso with full command of her instrument and musical expression. Finding such playing by a violinist at this age today is virtually impossible.

1972년도 아주 오래 전이네요 이즈음에 막스브르흐의 스코티시 환타지와 차이코프스키 바이얼린 협주곡 lp음반 내셨던듯 한데요

감동적이고 아름다운 연주 잘보았습니다.그러나 ....보고 들으면서 내내 저도 모르게 내내 코끝이 찡하고 눈물이 흐르는걸 참을수없군요.

진짜 저도 정경화씨 연주 볼 때 마다 눈물 너무 많이나요 클래식에 대한 식견 같은 거 1도 없는데... 이상하게 슬프더라고요 한국인이라 그런가봐요ㅋㅋ

Maravillosamente virtuosa!!!

I was very happy to see this. It was a few years later that I saw her do the Brahms VC in Atlanta. Intensity and passion are what I associate with her, and deep romance when it's called for, for example, in her amazing andante in the Prokofiev VC No. 2 with Solti. She had it all even here in 1972, when she was about 24. I'm exactly her age. What was I achieving when I was 24?

There are a lot of fine virtuoso violinists on YT - We are living in privileged times to be able to hear them just by clicking a few keyboard buttons. But few, in my very humble opinion, can reach the perfection that is Ms Chung. From her earliest recordings to the latest I enjoy her playing the most.

Fabulous recording somehow combining the nobility of this great concerto with the freshness and excitement which was KWC's trademark in her early performances. A shame that the first movement cadenza was edited!

딱 1악장 카덴짜 시작하면서 테잎이 튀어 버렸네요.. 늘어진 건가.. 아까워라~ 저 당시 불꽃처럼 피어나던 경화님에게 베토벤 바협은 레퍼토리로 조금은 어울리지 않게 느껴집니다. 확실히 차이콥이나 멘델스존 브루흐 때의 '굉장함'보다는 그렇게 느껴지네요. 몇몇 실수도 있었고.. 마지막 연주마치고 살짝 불만족스런 미소로 퇴장하시는 모습에서 더욱 느껴짐.

지휘자가 감흥없이 지휘하니 역시 음악에 나타나네. 정경화 마에스트로는 여왕인데 반해서... The conductor plays with no exciting, but Kyung Wha is still Queen.

Perhaps you are young and are not used the poor video and sound quality of 1972. This may translate to you as "no feelings!!" "not sensitive !!"

잉? 우린 유툽으로 보는거구. 1972년 당시 비디오 녹화헤서 다시 디지탈로 담았을텐데 실황에서의 울림이 여기까지 고스란히 담져지리라곤 생각안해요.

The conducting is a bit erratic IMHO. I wish he'd follow the performer better - it's like he wants to do his own thing - it IS a violin concerto, after all.
