Does anyone else see like mini movie clips in your mind when listening to music like this? I’m picturing a boat cutting through a lake in slow mo. The drone shot circles around quickly and zooms out to reveal a skier being pulled behind. Everyone with super big smiles on their faces. The sunset reflecting off the water.

that super compressed drum sound is quintessential 1980's pop and hair metal... adding in the synth marimba was a great touch of early 90's and the saxophone just tops it all off... I haven't heard a truly BAD song the Midnight has touched. Clubhouse had a great vocal and lyrics, but The midnight re-worked this into one of my favorite all time songs and I'm a child of the 80's so that's putting it against some heavy hitting stuff that I grew up with. So glad this movement in music has happened. I'm a big believer in the concept that what is old can be new again and this whole Retrowave movement is proof.

They really need to bring saxophone solos back into mainstream music. Springsteen and the E Street Band make it work fabulously. You mentioned the song Chinatown with Bruce and Jack. I'm in love with that song. The live version is even better than the recording.

Really liked it. Thanks Chris for recommending! Have you considered reacting to actual 80’s music that created this vibe you’re so into? Hall & Oates come to mind... I Can’t Go for That or Private Eyes were big hits for them! Plenty others!! Could be a “Throwback Series”!!!!

2:40That synth sounds like a marimba to me, maybe layered with a gentle, dry xylophone sound just for the plucky attack...? Not sure, just guessing. I actually used this combination in some of my tracks before for similar sounding stuffs in trance and progressive house too. Keep up the great reviews anyways!

I love your videos man, love the way you explain some of the background chord voicings and I never really noticed that subtle arpeggiation in the background till you pointed it out. Thanks for your insight man, keep the vids coming

Glad your a fan of the 1975 they are class! When they first played "Chocolate" here in the uk I was hooked but makes sense being a big 80s fan so I can relate to your thoughts on how there is that whole vibe thing going on.

A little constructive critisism if it's alright with you....... I love your review of this song, but can you please listen non stop before you actually talk about how the song feels and what kind of vibes you get? Stopping for every new element in the song disrupts the feeling when we as viewers also listen to it. Again...... I don't know you at all, but please think about this in the future. Lots of love and God bless you. :)
