From Anand to Mili, Yogesh wrote timeless hits for Bollywood’s best, but never got his due jo dekhta tha, jo jeeta tha, wahi likha tha (I wrote what I saw and lived)”. These words by lyricist Yogesh Gaur, popularly known just by his first name, are reflected in his simple and heartwarming melodies.
From Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli to Rimjhim Gire Sawan and Rajnigandha Phool Tumhare, Yogesh’s songs could evoke complex emotions through the simplest of words. Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar once said, “Some of my most cherished songs were written by Yogeshji. He was such a quiet genius. His words were taken from normal conversation and yet so poetic”, she said, adding that Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye was her favourite song by the lyricist.
Despite touching many hearts through his lyrics, Yogesh lived out later years of his life in the shadows, away from limelight, bearing the ignorance of an industry that once featured his name in the opening credits of its biggest hits.In a 2018 interview with The Indian Express, the lyricist-poet had said, “It’s been years that someone came to me to ask for songs. I wrote for some films in the late 1990s, but those films were never released. I think the industry and the people have forgotten me,” a painful reminder of how fame and success, especially in the film industry, are ephemeral.
Yogesh, who passed away in Mumbai at the age of 77 on Friday, was one of the last of the great lyricists of Hindi cinema. He may not have been as prolific as Anand Bakshi, Majrooh Sultanpuri or Shailendra, but he nevertheless could boast some of the finest, most meaningful lines you would come across in film music

I offer him my humble tribute).”The veteran lyricist was not keeping well for a while now and, according to a report in nationalheraldindia.com, he was staying with a disciple in the Mumbai suburb of Nala Sopara.Some of Yogesh’s best lyrics were in the films of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee. He wrote classics such as Zindagi Kaise Yeh Paheli and Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye in Anand. He was a very talented lyricist n wrote very meaningful songs. I wrote somewhere about Yogesh that he was another Shailendra. I think he was above all the awards.

One of the finest but hugely underrated lyrics writer of Hindi cinema. Late Yogesh ji gave some of the best songs which are still remembered by music lovers. Weather it is kahan tak yeh man ko, kahin door jab din dhal jayen, Rimjhim gire sawan or kayi baar youn bhi dekha hai which fetched Late Mukesh ji National award but the same did not even get film-fare nomination for best song by Yogesh ji. It is unfortunate that Film fare did not take note of such a talented Lyricist Yogesh Sahab.Yogesh Sahab wrote many philosophical and meaningfull songs for Hindi Films .such as जिंदगी कैसी है पहेली हाय, कभी तो हसाये, कभी ये रुलाये.... from movie आनंद which proved super hit.Forget about awards, Yogesh Sahab finds place in millions of hearts even today which in my opinion is the greatest award than anything... We will never forget his great contribution to Hindi Film Industry. Vijay ji, beautiful presenatation with well researched script and content.and thanks for making us know about the life and filmy journey of great lyricist Yogesh Sahab. My tributes to to this great legend.👍🌹🙏
