KX500 AF Vs. 1989 CR500

Ойын-сауық

Finally! I've been waiting to share this edit of the 2012 Kx500 AF vs the 1989 Cr500 for quite some time now. Ben Probst is the man behind these builds and was cool enough to let me come down and ride them till my arms fell off in Utah. We did a full Q&A for you guys that may have questions so watch all the way through. Both of these bikes are completely insane to ride. I plan on doing a lot more with Ben in the future with some of his other creations. Thank you guys for 20K subs and I hope you enjoy this edit! Special thank you to Ben Probst and Chad Cadnum for all the help . Also @maxfield717 behind the lens!

Both are beasts, I started with a KX 125 2 stroke and then a KX 250, had some engine work done to it and on the dyno was putting out 56 wide open throttle in 4th gear it would still wheelie, I couldn’t imagine the hit of these 2 bikes. BTW, my first bike was a Kawasaki coyote pull start, yeah, I’m old!

@@2strokecarbtuningportingin187 Thanks for linking those. Proof these 72hp & 75hp are totally bogus. Bullshit Ben Probst is full of it. What they do to the cr engine is a butcher job by the way. He cuts out the center exhaust bridge which is totally the wrong thing to do. Turns it into a piston & ring eating piece of garbage. I'd put one of my cr500 or kx500 builds up against those bikes on any dyno anywhere & punk those out. I don't even need a bigger carb or a CPI exhaust. Stock carb, standard bore & a typical fmf or pro circuit pipe & I'm over those numbers & STILL have the monster bottom with stock like reliability.

Biggest takeaway for me, aside from that astonishing horsepower you are getting out of these low-revving engines, was the rider choosing the old Honda as the better handling bike and how he said it would be really close in a lap-time shootout with the new 450. MX bike technology has not advanced as much as the moto-media would have us believe, since the act of going fast around a dirt track with jumps and stuff is still dependent on the rider more than the bike and we actually had great bikes 3 decades ago that still can work well. Great video !!!

I think the ultimate bike build would be a 250f with a crf 150f engine swap with a turbo. Build a bike that makes just as much hp but has almost one third less rotational Mass. Rotational mass is what really gives a bike its heavy feeling not its weight most of the time. It's why a 450 can weigh almost the same as a 250 F but feel way heavier when you're riding it.

  • @4touchdowns1game29

    @4touchdowns1game29

    2 жыл бұрын

@@keithpeterson3447 a 150f engine weighs less than a 250f engine genius 🤣. If you actually knew anything about turbos you would know that there is no lag anymore. Twin scroll turbos have been available for street bikes for a while now. A 150f on 15 psi of boost would be displacing about 300 cc's of air. If rules wanted to make it fair they could limit them to about 10 psi that would probably make about 250 cc's. It would make racing more interesting. I would definitely rather have the 150 motor with the turbo even if it made the exact same power as a 250f just because it would weigh less still and it would have less rotational Mass which is the most important thing.

  • @keithpeterson3447

@@4touchdowns1game29 So the turbo components don't weigh anything? You're saying a small 150 is gonna have better throttle response than a 450? 🤣 You're one of those theory guys. Making power & retain the reliability with the bridges are what you'd want. ...unless they're gonna be just a drag bike. Otherwise they'll need pistons tossed at them if they're gonna get time put on them. Sweet bikes but I like the original framed bike better. I'm more of a purist.

Daft question but its not, Ive never done motor cross as a massive hobbie or hit jumps like that, But do swinging the back end out an back in during air time make the bike travel further in the air??? Can someone explain plz lol, Will bug me, An i dont see many RM's about in America, Here in the UK RM's used be everywhere, Anyone from cardiff in the 90s would know about dirt road lol, Farmer gave everyone a field so they never blipped up his other fields, An it was called dirt road, Not many places left like that in the UK anymore, An the moment you use a crosser anywhere you got police coming to take your bike off you, When i was growing up everyone had motor cross bikes, Saying that with the Sur-rons that are almost silent is obviously the best option for people, Makes sence why people are buying high powered E-bikes....

Not saying your lying but for a 500 you really can’t get any bigger then 60hp just from experience. And there is no way your telling the truth about both bikes are you can’t be 4hp of by a whole built motor vs a stock motor with some port work it’s literally impossible. But they are nice bikes anyway

the kx has a big bore kit and milled crank that's 578 cc I think they can get 70 hp outta that

@@tmfg395 there is no way in hell it’s making that, I make race bikes for a living as I have a race team in the uk. A cr500 that was put on a dyno made 52.3hp on average and that was stock. It had a custom made cpi pipe, had 2mm ported, vforce reeds, had a 3mm Reed spacer, had a Kehin 38mm with STIC, and it also had a vortex ecu and the highest we could get was 56.8hp. With a 550 kit and a stroker maybe we would get is 60hp max. I’m not trying to call anyone a liar but numbers don’t add up. The bike is ridiculous quick anyway so adding performance you really want to smooth the power out while increasing the over Rev.

@@baby-sharkgto4902 at least someone agrees with me. The bikes are amazing but like I said numbers don’t add up. I guess it’s people like this that say well yeah it made 65hp just so people react more when in reality it makes 52hp 🤷🏻 there sweet bike and that kawi rips but no where near 70hp

I had a lt500 quad that made 80 hp on a dyno....boring the cylinder does very little it just moves the bmep down as the hole is x3 and ports are x2. The kx has kips...... much more potential than the cr...

No such thing as a shitzuki yes it sucks they have decided to bow out I don't think they've ever built a bad machine opposite actually they've always been one of the best how race podiums and wins and championships they have with Carmichael and Stewart decoster and many many more throughout their history

@@kylelangworthy9641 Inconsistency. They have failed to consistantly make a competitive bike. They'll have a bike that wins shootouts then they won't change it or they'll make changes in the wrong direction. They cheap out on things (fasteners, clutch basket, hub etc). They simply don't update their bikes often enough to keep up with the other manufacturers. Resale value is bad and not to mention the problems they’ve had with them going to false neutral.
