    for a trully fizzy drink like coke, let the bottle on room temperature for 1-2days. shaking every morning and night. then put into fridge. it will be just like coke.

    I am russian. Once, there was a friend of mine from Bahrain, who tasted kvas for the first time. When I told him about the ingredients he said: "OMG, russians, you can drink everything and even food!" :D

    I lived in Ukraine for 7 months while doing volunteer work, and I have had soooo much kvass. Kvass is amazing, simply, and hard to find here in Denmark. I will try making my own some day! Thanks for the recipe!

    I love kvass and most important, homemade kvass was super easy to make and a lot more tasty and refreshing, than store bought, even if it was said it is "traditional".

    Fun fact: The reason people can legally use the Tetris theme as backing music or whatever without lawyers coming after them is that it's technically an Eastern European folk song, and is therefore protected under copyright law for fair use

    I don't think this is how they make it in Russia, I believe the bread crumbs stay in on the bottom and get reuse kind of like Kombucha. Grandma told me you should get rid of first butch. I totally need to make it for summer. To me it taste like if you mix a very good quality apple juice with St. Pellegrino water.

    msorganicglam we usually make a bread balls - very compressed, so it doesn't go off. Also we really like to leave kvas for a bit longer until it's like a really light beer and has a lot of "sparkle" in it.

    I always start thinking who is the first person that says (in this case in particular): "who was the first person to say, let's go toast some bread, add sugar, raisins, yeast and see what happens?" Also, for bread: "let's take this plant in particular, grind it, mix it with eggs.."

    Awww... that somehow reminds me of polish zakwas - the white borsch fermented soup base. The original name of the soup is: 'barszcz biały' but zakwas is also used in 'żurek' (both absolutely delicious, sweet/sour/umami rich flavors that I've never seen in any other culture than slavic). I'm thinking it would be a real challenge to convert it to vegan but how satisfying!

    Those Russkies botulism can develop in any sealed jar or bottle that hasn't been cleaned properly, provided there's something the bacteria can be submerged under. Also if the bottle isn't sterilised it won't last very long before going mouldy

    Nessa Fitzgerald *seamed* jar/bottle that's not being opened for a period of time. a plastic bottle like the one in the video is not seamed and allows oxygen to come through. oxygen = no botulism.

    I love these videos and appreciate the work that goes into them so thank you for another great video! But, I must say I could not get the scowl off my face as I saw the ingredients haha! You lost me at "yeast". And soggy toast... And a handful of raisins. Yes I know beer is made much that same way and I love a good yeasty sour dough but eh ew. I just, I can't ... Yeah, no.     did you make yours with some "starter kit" sold in shops? Some of those contain malt syrup packs that give it darker color. Home made Kvass is light brown.
