I am almost done with the reading of the book and I really love the way you wrote everything. It's heart breaking to know that Seyit and Şura's love have no happy ending, but I'm sure that they both loved each other until their last breath. I'd love to read the other books about Seyit, but unfortunately in my country I was able to find only this one. Greetings from Serbia!

I hope you will have a chance to read the book too and I'm sure that the author of the book is doing everything she to make the book able in America. Of course I can share what I read. Well, a lot of things were changed in the show, like Petro never was in love with Sura, he loved Tatja and he never came to Istanbul, Seyit and Celil killed him in Alusta and his dead was the same like they showed it in the show, also Tatja didn't die and Celil never came to Istanbul (but we don't know what happened to them, they stayed in Alusta), also in the show Kurt Seyit's mother and father were killed, but in the book only Seyit's youngest brother (Mahmut) was killed when he tried to come to Seyit. Actually, in the show Hava is Mahmut's wife, but in the book she is their sister and Mahmut is the youngest one but in the show Osman is the youngest one. Also in the book Seyit was with some girl after he met Sura, but in the show he was let's loyal to her. That's it for now, I can give you more information when I finish the reading of the book if you want it. All the best! :'))

Nermin Bezmen, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Never, ever in my life have I been so invested in a show as I have been in Kurt Seyt & Shura. This is bad but I am now watching for the 5th time. ( Thank you Netflix). Can't get enough of it! My house is a mess for lack of cleaning and am making sandwiches for supper! I have laughed myself to tears, cried a lot from sadness and at times want to punch my screen to knock Petro out or strangle Lt.Billy! I have purchased and downloaded the first E-book in English but haven't started reading it yet. Hopefully the other books can be translated to English as I live in America and can only read English. I have done some research but cannot find out how Shura actually died. And at such a young age while Tina was in her 90's. Can you shed some light on that for me? Thank you!

Just finished reading the e-book of Kurt Seyt & Shura. OMG what a love story. I really think that their lives would have been so much better/happier for the three of them - Seyt, Shura and even Murka if Seyt and Shura had gotten married. They truly loved each other and understood each other so much. Instead, because of Seyt's impulsiveness and jealousy, - three lives were tortured and ruined. Shura was an amazing woman, not at all the spoiled portrayed air-head in the movie. The actors in the movie were wonderful - so beautiful and talented - but the book is very different and while I finished the book in tears, I really felt that Shura out of all three of them made the most of her life. This made me very happy for her. I look forward to reading the other books in the series for more insight but to me - Seyt and Murka had a very strained marriage - she constantly competing with Shura's memory and Seyt never getting over this true love of his. What a pity. Thank you Ms. Bezming for sharing their lives with us. I will be haunted by this story for a long time to come.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful yet tragic love story. I cried my heart out for Seyit and Sura. My little narrow thought is that it is understandable , for me at least, how Seyit and Sura could not be together. There were too much pain, complicities, struggles between them. The war, family's wishes also added on undefeatable obstacles to their happiness. I wish that they could've locked and carried their greatest love in their hearts to find peace in the rest of their lives.

I just read an analysis/comment of the story on Facebook and I think it's very good analysis of this gut wrenching love story: He did love her of course but could not disobey his father at the end and could not have someone as equal as Sura in his life. He wanted someone who adored him and did not object to his ways. Someone who was Turkish as his father had wished so. Also, he abandoned her several times and betrayed her and could not look in her eyes and tolerate her anger and disappointments. With all the obstacles around them, I think their love could have endured but after living with her for 6 or 7 years, he did not marry her!!! However, he married Murkra very quickly. The problem was with Seyit and not Sura in my opinion. Maybe, that's why he ended his life by suicide. Very very sad story.

Nermin Bezman, I echo everyone else's deep thanks for sharing your grandfather's story. It is the most authentic love story, I've ever seen portrayed on TV - (likely because it WAS real!) The different cultures and the magnificent production make it truly unforgettable. It reminded me of the stupid mistakes I made as a young woman...the things we do not know, if we can't listen to others' wisdom. I can see how both Kurt Seyit and Sura contributed to the painful breakdown of their relationship. As I said to my first husband, "there is just too much scar tissue; we can't get beyond it." Heartbreaking that their pride and stubborn-ness overcame such deep love - and that they were surrounded by people who wished their undoing. True soulmates...I read years ago that the lives of soulmates are rarely easy or smooth because they have such difficult lessons to teach one another. In English, we have this saying, "pride goeth before the fall". My heart breaks for them, though they've been gone so many years. It was also so refreshing to see men being so emotional and heartfelt. You come from very warm people, people I would love to have known. You made their beautiful and tragic story part of history. Somehow, I think you are helping them by writing their story. Like many others, I can hardly wait to read the books. Such lessons for us all. A magnificent accomplishment.

Dear Nermin Bezmen, I have spent three weeks watching this series on Netflix, not knowing that it was about real people. I finished last night, and for the past two nights have dreamt of Kurt Seyit, Sura, Celil, and Guzide. All day today, I have bee searching the internet for everything I can find about your grandfather and his lost love. I have to say, I was so very disappointed when Seyit so quickly asked Murka to be his wife, when he and Sura had been through so many obstacles, but he had never married her. -But it was a time we can't fully grasp, and cultures so different from our own (in the U.S.). I have been crying over this story, even though it happened so long ago! Thank you for telling, not only Seyit and Sura's love story, but the history surrounding them. I hope to read your books! I see by the comments that they are actually better than the series (Petro's character in the series drove me crazy! But I kept watching for the sake of the story).

Dear Nermin, this is one of the most beautiful love stories, even though it broke my heart. Thank you for sharing it. I could relate to it; parts of it are my story. . . perhaps that is why I cried so hard. I would love to read all your books once they are published in English - I think it's just a matter of time. Did Seyt and Sura love each other to the end of their lives? Was there really a man as conniving and evil as the character "Pedro" in their lives? He seemed to cause most of Seyt and Sura's problems. Although ultimately it seems that Seyt decided to honor his father's wishes by marrying a Turkish lady instead of Sura. . . Oh, and I LOVE LOVE the cast!! Kivanc Tatlitug and Farah Abdullah are perfect, they have a wonderful chemistry together and they make us fall in love with them and with their romance. Your grandmother, Murka, must have been an incredible woman . . . just the fact that she shared this story with you is something remarkable in itself. God's blessings to you!

I agree, just like Tina said she loved him more than he loved her... Sura told him he didn't have courage to heal them and he didn't he was a coward, and ending up making his wife miserable so so sad.

I've read some comments and I understand why the series has not faithfully respected the true story. Sura has abandoned everything to follow him. Seyit would have been less sympathetic and the love story less lovely if viewers knew he never asked her to marry him. What suffering for Sura ! Despite her lack of maturity, her mistakes, she deserved happiness, she is the true heroine of this story, the one who has given everything to the end and has gathered only an immense suffering. Seyit, who married Murka precipitately, finally respected his father's will. Traditions have weighed heavily in the balance and participated in their heartbreaking separation. And yet, I really love the character of Seyit, stilted and torn by his choices. One can't deny his feelings. He certainly loved her, but not enough to accept everything. I am convinced that their lives far from the other one have not been fully happy. The ghosts of their great love pursued them until their death. Maybe Seyit regretted his choice ? I hope so. Sura deserved to be happy but WITH HIM ! He had promised to love her for eternity and never leave her. But there are words and there are acts : reality is often cruel. Real life isn't a fairy tale. The story of Seyit and Sura haunts me and I am reviewing the series as soon as I saw the 46th and final episode. When you love, you don't count.

It’s a very sad story, even though in the beginning they had such beautiful love, I didn’t wanted to watch anymore because I heard Seyit married someone else! I doubt that Kurt loved sura, cuz he gave up on her so easily. If he truly loved her he would’ve kept fighting to be with her, not marry anyone. Sura’s sister was right, sura loved him more than he loved her! And thats the truth! I was devastated by the end! I cried for days😭 In my opinion if someone loves you, they fight for you till the end! Like the man from the movie The notebook or the movie Endless love or Amar en tiempos de cólera! Those men never gave up on their women, they preferred to be alone or die if they couldn’t be with the one they loved!

Nermin: Thank you so much for writing out your family's story. I watched it on Netflix in America over the span of two weeks, and this story deeply moved me. This helped me understand people and their motivations better, and also gave me a broader view of what things were like in those regions and in that era. I feel it is possible for someone to be 'your Alushta' or your most stringent sense of home, even if you are not together.

I've finished to see the whole series yesterday. I feel a deep sadness and I'm seeing it again. The emotions were very strong. Their sufferings have become mine. No other series had so upset me. Don't laugh at me, but I've lost sleep. I feel a real attachment for the 2 main characters, Seyit and Sura - after all, it's their story and the title of the series. It's was love at first sight. They went through war, separations, pains. Sura was very young when she left her family, her country to follow him, in spite of danger and insecurity. The relation between Seyit and Murka hasn't moved me. It's for me an ordinary love story, born of spite. Of course, love came after. It's more like a marriage of convenience than a marriage of love at that period. He was planing secretly his wedding with Sura and suddenly decided to marry Murka a few weeks later, whereas he always deeply loved Sura. The end is heartbreaking but they were both responsible for their separation : jealousy, lack of confidence, inability to communicate, impulsiveness, pride, selfishness. And Sura wasn't a submissive woman and had a strong personality. I'm very sad for Sura and I wonder if he loved her as much as he said it. The life of this woman was destroyed when he rushed to marry with another woman. Now I want to know what were their lives after their heartbreaking separation. Did he loved her till his last breath ? Why he made a suicide attempt ? Did they keep in touch or see each other again ? I haven't read the books, so I guess I'll find some answers in your comments.

In the show, Sura clearly pushed Seyit away by staying with Petro and insulting Seyit repeatedly in his defense. Sura was very childish and insensitive to him when he got out of jail after 8 months and almost being hanged that very day for something he didn't do. Sorry, I can't blame Seyit for moving on even though he loved and chose Sura, because if not for Petro, they would have been married the day of the kidnapping.

I read that he commit suicide because he was sick. But this story was told by her grandmother so who knows. Seyit clearly has a personality dissorder. Also read that they sent letters to each other for a long time, and also that they were lovers the first years after he married. For your comment I saw you are a complete romantic, the first part of the story I loved it too. The second one for me is just a reflection of a male chauvinist vision of a culture and a country where it is developed. Sura is reflected as the western girl that is always the lover, never the wife, just like people on those countries see foreigner women. In the end, he ended marrying a submissive and boring woman and never explained why. for me it was the reason.

It really affected me like no other love story. I could not even watch it all the way and just went through parts of it because it was painful. I did some research too and I know he committed suicide because of her, presumably, his sickness and other hardships of his life in 1945. She died from what I gathered here and there in 1960s. She visited Turkey years later and wrote to him until 1928 but he never pursued and they never saw each other again. When she was in Turkey to visit her sister, he was already dead. What a heart breaker. I still don't get it why he or she or both gave up on each other. He should have married her way before all the troubles in Turkey. And OH WOW..Shura's relatives live near my town AND she was buried so close to my neighborhood. Literally 5 mins. drive from my home. Must go & pay her a visit. :( I'm afraid this is gonna be one of those stories that just wrenches your heart. And i'm not a especially romantic minded person. Knowing that i'm practically neighbors with the main characters in this series, just takes it to another level. What can i say. God Rest Their Beautiful Souls & bless their children & family. -,-

  • @TheBelilu

    @TheBelilu

    9 жыл бұрын

Yes she is. And the place is right near my house, like 10 minutes away. I guess we have to read the book to find out if she was able to forget Kurt Seyit. Obviously the soap opera version failed at showing the complete story, as described in the book. It's funny how in turkish soaps, usually the series (especially the bad ones) go on for way too long, to the point that they ruin the meaning & integrity of the story & the characters involved. And on top, they do all the unnecessary prolonging with made up stories. But when it comes a great & TRUE story such as Kurt & Shura, it only lasted 2 short seasons. They went through the entire story in an abbreviated way & on top they didn't even finish either one. They instead, stopped half way in the middle of the Shura part of the story. But, even the book version, ( I hear) had a lot more to say, at least about the Murka part of the story. In anycase, my guess is that Shura never got over him. Though, if i were her, he wouldn't be too easy to forget. After watching the series, i don't see how anyone would see Kurt as some kind of a knight in shining armor. What kind of a man would bring a woman (an aristocratic, beautiful, innocent, foreign & practically an adolescent aged one at that) to another country (( where he's at least the same race & religion (Muslim) as the people of that country, while she's NOT)) & then leave her for ANY reason, let alone his stupid, petty reasons?! As if that wasn't enough, he then goes & marries another woman, not a year or two later but within the same timeline as their supposed 'Love Story'?! It was not a love story! It was a horrible one about a selfish, moody, cowardly man who temporarily falls in love (or temporarily uses) then betrays & abandons (time & time again) a little girl, in every sense of the word! I wouldn't even do to a travel partner/friend on an ordinary vacation trip, what Kurt Seyit did to the supposed love of his life!

belilu belilu - Ok- I am almost done with the Series - and you know what -I agree with you. Kurt Seyt had the tendencies just to leave the ladies and do his business - I do understand he was a military/Rebel - But he used to do it to Shura all the time, and then Murvet. He never asked Shura, to leave Istanbul - he order her to leave ( in the series).

+belilu belilu- I couldn't agree with you more on this. The series is sad, but portrays Seyit as the heroine. But in real life, how can he abandon Sura that way? She left everything for him. I think in the end, religion (him being Muslim/Sura being Christian) and cultural differences (both families disapproved) prevailed over Sura's love for Seyit. He may have loved her, but it wasn't enough, or it was a cowardly kind of love. In real life, I really do think Seyit cheated on her as well. The real heroine of the story is Sura.

Nermin Bezman, you have your grandmother's gift of storytelling in spades! I am wondering how we know that Sura also pined for Seyit? From that one letter or are there more? Are there any more photos of her? Do you know some of her personal story too, after she left Istanbul? Online I found that she married and emigrated to the States and married someone called Nash around 1930, but that's all I know. Surely, her sister knew her story? And that is a photo of you with her sister in the video, isn't it? Oh my, WHAT a story!

Thank you Ms Bezmen for sharing this wonderful story. We all wish for happy endings but many times real life is not that way. How you brought history combined with human conflicts was beautifully done. Could you please give us a very short sinopsis of what your third book was about since it was not covered in the series.

*First Id like to say this is the first movie/series I have ever bawled and cried my eyes out. I felt the heartbreak and it touched my soul.Beautifully tragic. Questions I would love to be answered! -Did Seyts Father really disapprove of Shura in real life? -Did Shura write to Seyt, and if so about what and for how long did she write him. -Did he ever write her back? -Did they still claim to love each other in the letters? -Did he stay with his family just out of obligation -What "disease" did Seyt supposedly have? Is it clear if he committed suicide or not? Did he leave a suicide note explaining?Like Possibly from his disease or maybe seeing so much death?...or was it because he wanted Shura back? Or all of these reasons? -How did Shura die? -How long did Shura live when she found out about Seyts death? -Is there anything written about Shuras life after Seyt? -Did she still love him and admit it all her life or did she move on? -Did Murvet really deny his proposal at first in real life? -Did she know about Shura before the marriage like in the movie? -Was Murvet EVER happy? did she accuse him of still loving her throughout their marriage? -Was Murvet really that saintly in real life (..she almost seemed to perfect) -Did Seyt just have a thing for innocent naive girls? I felt like he wanted a woman to be impossibly pure? Was he like that in real life? -I felt like he was more of a relaxed Turkish man at the beginning. He had his beliefs but didnt grow up in a extreme muslim community. So once he got there to Istanbul he seemed to get caught up in belonging and brotherhood and pleasing his muslim elders.I felt like thats when he started to resit Shura and her ways.(like when she said she felt bad for that girl marrying the old man and he got aggravated by it saying parents know best) couldnt help but think his fathers disapproval of her made him resent her slowly. He slowly drifted making his mind up to lead a muslim life while letting her go to live her own life.*guess this isnt a question directly but I basically would like to know if in the book it clears up WHY EXACTLY HE LET SHURA GO!? LIKE WHY?! -Did Seyt ever actually propose to Shura? -It seemed in the movie he kind of tried to make Murvet a similar version of Shura (like by giving her a shortened name like he said Russians do) (Her clothes he bought her that he wanted her to wear) Did he do that in real life? -Did Petro actually exist and if so did Seyt find out that he was not only just a traitor but he also ruined his and Shuras relationship? -Looking back did Shura believe Seyt loved her or with time did she believe she just wanted him to love her? -Is there a personal diary of Shuras? or of Seyts? Is it published? -WHEN WILL BOOKS BE AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH? because Im going crazy haha :)

DEAR DEE ANNA, I LOVE YOUR QUESTIONS BUT IT IS TRULY INPOSSIBLE TO ANSWER THEM ALL HERE. IT WILL BE ALMOST LIKE WRITING MY NOVELS ONCE MORE TIME:) BUT FOR SOME I CAN ENLIGHTEN YOU BRIEFLY. NO, PETRO DID NOT MAKE TO ISTANBUL. MY GRANDPA MADE HIM DIG HIS OWN GRAVE AND SHOT HIM AND BURIED HIM IN ALUSHTA -WHEN PETRO CAME AFTER THE WITH A SQUAD OF REDS TO KILL THEM. YES, MY GRANDPA'S FATHER STRICTLY DISAPROVED SHURA FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. IF FATHER AND SON DID NOT GOT SEPARATED HEARTBROKEN, I AM SURE THINGS WOULD TAKE A DIFFERENT WAY. IN THE REAL STORY, KURT SEYT SAW SHURA WITH A YOUNG MAN HAND IN HAND, ARM IN ARM AND GOT SO JELAOUS THAT HE WANTED TO TAKE A REVENGE BY TAKING SOME OTHER WOMAN INTO HIS BED. AS A MATTER OF FACT THE YOUNG MAN JUST HAPPENED TO BE SURA'S COUSIN BORIS BOGAYEVSKY AND FROM HERE ON NOTHING WENT VERY SMOOTH..... MURKA AND SHURA MET BY A MERE ACCIDENT IN KURT SEYT^S RESTAURANT WHILE MURKA WAS PREGNANT TO THEIR FIRST CHILD. THERE IS ONE THING FOR SURE JELAOUSY AND MISTRUST KILLS THE CORE OF LOVE.... THAT IS IT FOR NOW..... BEST WISHES....

I love period pieces and stories that are based on true facts, people and/or events. Kurt Seyit ve Sura was one of those unique and special stories and transcends time. This is what epic movies and stories are made out of. Ms. Bezmen, I have a question that is a bit off-topic (i.e. not specifically related to Sura and Syeit's relationship) and I wonder. After the Russian Revolution and the take-over by the Bolsheviks, wars tend to settle down after a time. Did your Grandfather ever try to return to his homeland of Alushta or visit the Crimea? Thank you for your wonderful story and sharing all the personal information about these special people.

It's been a week and I'm still reeling from this sad story. So many questions - I know we're told questions and more insight will be answered by reading the book. I would so love to read the whole series - but it is not yet published in English and my curiosity is driving me crazy. So, Ms. Bermin, please tell these prospective publishers they are likely to make a lot of money by getting this book to the public. Everyone wants to read the real story. I was told that Seit's parents were not killed (as they were in the series). Can you tell me why your grandfather never tried to get in touch with them again and make amends, since he followed his father's wishes and married a Turkish woman? Thank you so much for writing about your amazing family.

Dear Nermin, I'm Brazilian and watched the series on Netflix based on his book. Loved it!!! I read it on various blogs here and the impact was the same for everyone. Everyone loved your story! Unfortunately, his books have not yet been translated and published here in Brazil. I wonder if what I read is real. I read that your grandfather went into depression because of this love and killed himself, is it true? And the character Petro, did he really exist? Did he do all these evils? I look forward to the second season of the series and its books in Portuguese !!! Kisses ... Deise

Everything has A reason to happen I believe, and for that Nermin Bezmen is at least one of the reasons, through her, their love survives on these pages eternally and the novels set a fresh perspective of a very important historical period that shaped the entire World's future. It is also a written proof that we are connected to one another more than we know. Thank you @NerminBezmen

This story has bewitched me in the most magical of ways. However, after finishing the last Netflix episode yesterday, I'm deeply saddened and disappointed by the ending. I find it difficult to believe the show writers made a conscious decision to end such a beautiful story so abruptly. I'm still in shock. It's as if the writers of the show just gave up...or perhaps they deliberately wanted play a joke on the audience! Like many of you, I'm on a quest to find real answers by reading the book. The only English copy I could find is on Amazon for $1,998.00! I'm fantasizing about buying a plane ticket to Turkey for $600 and going to a bookstore to get the real story. Does anyone know where to buy the books in English? Can I get on a wait list? Thanks!

Steffanie, this show was based on a true story so the ending was true to life. We are all wanting to know about Sura's life after she left Istanbul and are hoping it is in one of the books about Seyit's and Sura's story, but because they aren't out in English as yet, unfortunately we are waiting anxiously.

Susan Hayden I understand, but there are much more elegant ways to film the ending of a story while still staying true to life. I just felt that it ended too abruptly & in a very flat way. Maybe they will do a remake or a sequel!

Dear Nermin, First of all I would like to thank you for sharing a marvelous story i'm sure it's personal but I believe your creativeness for writing let you to share it with the world. I watched it since it was aired in 2014 al though when I was watching it I didn't know it was based on true story, to be honest the reason I watched it was because it was historical movie and the fact Farah & Kivanc as the casting helped. Second of all I hope you will read this comment so you can at least answer my question LOL. 1. Is there a second show, are we gonna find out what happened to shura in paris?(the reason asked show is because I dont read books LOL ...) 2. Did they ever met afterwards? 3. I was ecstatic to find out it's on NETFLIX, congratulation! p.s. I happen to search about it again after just finishing Anna Karenina film, somehow it reminded me. Thank you again!!! wishing you a successful career :)
