Do you Feel each note or are you just ripping memorized scales/modes.. I struggle to find the feeling in Jazz with many people.. I hear more mindless notes then meaningful notes.. Anyone expand on this thought..?..

My aim for solo guitar like this is playing like Art Tatum, I do feel resolutions but can be a bit mechanical for sure. At the gig I sing while improv I like Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard etc, lately I’m listening to more old stuff too for similar reasons you mentioned

I think it largely comes down to what styles of music one is familiar and fluent in. It's like hearing poetry in languages you don't speak, a lot of it is not going to actually land and resonate because the words being spoken don't carry the meaning they do for someone who speaks the language. Some languages might be more accessible to non speakers just based on the sounds, but even still, without fluency and knowledge of the word meanings and syllables and rhymes, it isn't going to carry the same immediate weight. Jazz music is probably less approachable than a lot of other popular music (but also similar to other "classical" styles of music, as contrasted with popular). Those arent value judgments, just descriptions.

@@adambozentko5877 thanks! bebop is pretty mechanical, blues got more feelings. Hardbop got a good balance, not much guitars in there though here's a playlist open.spotify.com/playlist/53W2w9C8oRC83j7fup8ZEk?si=7c68cd7b39a84bad
