Breathtaking. Such an idiosyncratic, unique voice. The level of risk in his playing is other level...comping, voicings, use of open strings...unreal. Great flow on his lines too, so unpredictable. Total intimacy with the instrument...flawless

..wow, Kurt is out of control, he has set the bar so high for other players, pushing us to work harder towards our goals...my teacher before Berklee back in high school, Jack Hotop, was always pushing his students too, practice every day, try to listen to the masters, from Segovia to Montgomery, Martino and Pass, and he knew about Clapton and Hendrix too mind you..and do it seriously..I wish he could have heard this performance by Kurt, I think he would have really enjoyed it..this is the kind of kick in this ass to get you thinking and working harder..monumental must listening..New York September 10, 2020..

Hi Rob, You are absolutely right. The engagement from students have been minimal - honestly. But there were few brave participants and they were awesome:) I see two reasons: 1) We are a new independent, noncommercial platform and perhaps students will require more credibility on our end. 2) Playing a solo performance on your instrument is very challenging and recording it is also time-consuming - quite a long term project. BUT whoever is thinking of jumping on this challenge, please join anytime 2021/2022. Either way, with or without recording, I appreciate your comment. Good luck Rob. Peter

When I saw your post I assumed it was by an unsophisticated young person, probably a rock player, unfamiliar with jazz, jazz harmonies, and especially the tune itself, since being able to recognize the tune would be helpful in appreciating this version. Rosenwinkel is doing lots of advanced stuff, and as loose as it is, it's still very musical, and the tune never gets lost. If you don't know "'Round Midnight," perhaps try listening to it, become really familiar with it, then give this another try; you may appreciate it more. Of course it's possible that you simply prefer that musical wallpaper you've got posted on your channel.

@@fretbuzz59 I know the song very well, that is my problem. Yes, of course, I can hear the Reharmonisation and the lots of advanced stuff which Kurt plays. But the song titel is "Round midnight" not "Round sunshine". In my opinion Kurt don't hit the character of the song. Technical, creative and harmonious colours, no question, Kurt plays outstanding, but I miss the sense and the soul in his version. No tone has time to develop. Do you really get a feeling from "round midnight"?
