I first watched this when i was still jazz music college grad, and i have kept coming back to watch this time to time since then, 15 years past, i still think this is one of the best solo Kurt has ever played. Kurt's playing was very soulful and very articulative back then, now he has changed alot since then.
So progressive it hasn't even happened yet #2021

Aaron Park's gem of a tune, from his brilliant debut 'Invisible Cinema' - a Modern Jazz Classic IMO.

Man.... Could you imagine Nate Smith on drums for this song??
SOOO killing! It *is* just one of those tunes, I know what you mean, @HendrixcommaMartin
that guitar, that guitar!!
OMG. Kurt is a GOD. Why he is not on the same page as Pat or John I cannot believe. Innovator.
love this song!!!
Ted Poor!¡
this tune is so...hot.... the beats and the guitar made it ten times better..
Thanks for posting! Man, everytime I find a new Kurt clip I get all excited :) Thanks again for sharing, best regards.... Sandemose
I love this tune! Kurt is at his best and immortal!!! Parks sounds fantastic on his keys in sync with the awesome rhythm section!! The sound quality is great! Thanks for uploading this precious video!
that's just fantastic, kurt rosenwinkel is a true inspiration to me !
kurt still move forward. great vid. thanx for posting!
Increible este tema !
This kind of music tunes my mood, awesome stuff. Scotland~
Ted Poor's drum solo shows a perfect build-up
Great Artist!!!
What a tune! Kurt, you was amazing at red sea jazz festival 09, Eilat, Israel.
dudes on fire, killing!!
que de belles notes , dans la tête de ce guitariste ! ! ! !
At 6:30 I start head-banging to jazz.
kurt was incredible in eilat this is nothing compared to seeing him live.
You got to listen to The Remedy Live @ Village Vanguard - his latest album. He is playing really fast there. Unbelievable how he is still changing his style. Usual guitar player: From playing fast to playing chords. He just seems to go into the other direction. And see: Now he can do both as only KR could. This man was a very rare luck for our instrument. When you think that nothing is going on, you find someone who is playing like THIS GUY. Great.
this sing was my favorite! red sea jazz festival 09 was a really great festival on of the best. Kurt is amazing but I couldnt find this song in any of his albums.

Leor Cohen it’s a tune written by Aaron Parks on his album invisible cinema
@bluesguy33 Maybe that's where Freddie heard it first. But it is lovely the way it's played on trumpet on that Oliver Nelson album. Kurt clearly took some time to shed it to fluency!
ari played a tour with kurt in 2005.. there are some good bootlegs floatin' around :)
indeed
@bluesguy33 The first time i heard that lick was by Freddie Hubbard in his solo in "Blues and the abstract truth".
fly kurt fly
the npr version has kendrick scott on drums also keep in mind
@groupieoftheyear it won't let me post the link for it but it's at npr under kurt rosenwinkel live at the village vanguard
Would love to have this on mp3.
Kurts playing would be like a flight through space if it had wings a protective shuttle.
@jayasslee Aaron Parks wrote the tune for Kurt Rosenwinkel
Holy shit
Google "kurt rosenwinkel npr village vanguard". It's in the second set.
wouldn't the date of the concert be 2011 and not 2021? It seems to be at New Morning (Paris). I think I was there, I saw Kurt three or four times in Paris... Since Star of Jupiter, for me, he doesn't do anything anymore - why? He transported me like scof and pat metheny, but less long in terms of years! And he really had created a personal universe, it's an enigma....

It's probably from 2009
fucking beautiful
@aaronlebos Moreno does an Awesome lick at the end of his solo mind you. But I agree, I prefer Kurts scence of melody. Both great inspirations to go practice some guit chops:) and thanx to Aaron Parks for providing an awesome arrangment of chords
yeah but ted is on this and ted is beyond nate in a different ways but nate is the man too! word up to all the new drummers making me want to get outta bed everyday and keep playing.
The drummer is playing throughout pretty much the entire head an implied 7/8 under the quarter notes of a bar of 7/4 so it would be quite awkwad to write it in 4/4 and then 3/4 but you COULD. It just sort of makes more sense as bars of 7/4 because of the phrases.
It does! BUT that said, once you understand THAT part about it you could count it in any number of ways, from the practical to the completly nutty, such as counting it as 5/8 + 5/8 + 2/4. It wouldn't really make sense to do so, but you could do it!
cus this dudes ted poor. hes way in the future. watch out! :)
its not just you man :)
which npr version? theres only one and its eric harland on drums....
Yes! the archnemesis walks down the street doing their thing.
Yeah, Ted Poor is incredible. Check this if you haven't already, Ben Monder Trio /watch?v=fMskXnq-1iQ
Anybody knows the drummers name?
I love Kurt's 'Hendrx-ing out', but Mike Moreno also kills it on the original studio version.

hell yeah, or david king?!
4:01 -> Ted poor = sick
This drummer is real good
ted is amazing, i am blessed to have him on my debut album "borabook" . you may check out some sound bites on youtube and cdbaby.
goddamn finally aaron parks with kurt....didtn really like that mike moreno guy
1 2 3 4/ 1 2 3 = une MESURE 4/4 une MESURE 3/4 ca fait CHIER MAIS C EST BON
Daddy? What is a guitar solo? Uh, this would be it...
ok... sorry i guess.
im gay
That is false.
I think I prefer Mike Moreno on this tune. To be fair I prefer Mike over Kurt anyway... but mike just seems to do a better job phrasing-wise. Harmonically I like him better too...

I completely respect your opinion, but why? I don't even consider them in the same ballpark, and I love Mike!

@@aaronlebos , same, but I doubt OP is going to bother to answer 8 years after the fact.
@dilanmashru1948

@@HomoChomsky i love kurt the most but probably because mike moreno uses a lot more beboppish /post bop langauge in the other live version of the tune w him on it, and that guy might prefer that over Kurt's conception of the harmonic and melodic form of the tune
I don's like drummer. Is he on all european tour? why don't they play with Kendrick Scott or Eric Harland?
You completely invalidate any statement when you use that word... just saying.
great composition, playing and solos but mediocre sound recording but the tune doesn't swing. I think because the time signature is not being performed in a jazz style; there is more of rock feel to the drums (not taking anything away from the drummer, he is fine). Perhaps a larger rhythm section dividing up the beat, lightening it, would help decrease the plodding nature of the beat.

I am quite sure that the intention of the composition is to sound that way! Parks said that Invisible Cinema was very much inspired by alternative rock bands (Radiohead etc.)!
