I'm going to have to disagree on this one. Not sure if you were around during this era, but GnR were the pinnacle of all that was wrong with music. November Rain was played so often on the radio, and MTV, and seemingly would never end until the glorious moment when Norvana's, 'Smells like Teen Spirit,' washed it away, like a cleansing 'rain' forever.

Third, sounds like your trying to imply that GnR were a hair metal pop band when they were known to be the exact opposite. "Appetite For Destruction" is the epitome of a true hard rock album, that is was solidified them as the rock band who broke away from the sound/attitude of "hair" bands

I understand why Kurt didn't like Axl. Axl's profoundly immature, delusional, and narcissistic attitude inspired hate from quite a few other people. He was kind of the Kanye West of his time. I mean he caused a massive riot because he didn't like the security at one show. Still, I don't like how Kurt hated on GnR altogether because of him. Kurt was always very extreme about his opinions - very black-and-white with no middle ground. In a lot of ways, he was just as unreasonable and inside his own head as Axl, but whereas Axl's narcissism was more grandiose and over-the-top, Kurt's was more introverted and withdrawn. Honestly, they were two sides of the same coin in a lot of ways.

So 25 years on from this and we have Krist Noveselic working with Duff Mckagan, interviewing Duff Mckagan, playing on stage with Duff and dueting a happy and lighthearted version of 'Sweet Child', and we have them working in radio together, and essentially they have become great friends...And 25 years on we also we have Dave Grohl praising Slash and Duff for being great musicians, and we have Dave Grohl admitting how he found witnessing Slash and Duff, in person, write, play, and record together, in the studio, an incredible moment, and we have Dave Grohl playing on a Slash solo record...and essentially we have all of these simply iconic and legendary giants of rock n' roll bury any hatchet that they may have had, whether individually or as a band...yet there's still fans, from both bands, perpetuating this childish rivalry shit.... and I've been guilty of it myself in the past...but as soon as I saw Krist Noveselic and Duff Mckagan on stage together, just them two, smiling, laughing, and then cracking out a version of Sweet Child with Krist playing the accordion, well that was it, it was beautiful...The fact is, they've ALL let it go....and they know, and we ALL know, that BOTH Nirvana and Guns N' Roses were fucking excellent and supreme bands, bands that surpassed their peers, and made an important and exciting indelible mark on music, and Kurt Cobain and Axl Rose were BOTH immensely talented songwriters, and they were BOTH iconic singers and frontmen, and to deny that, and come out with some bollocks about either of them being shit is just absolute fucking nonsense.......I like to think that if Kurt had lived, then by now, by 2017, Kurt and Axl would be friends, and laughing about all this shit, and reminiscing about when they were BOTH giants of rock n' roll.

Duff Mckagan was actually one of the last to see Kurt alive.. They spoke on the plane back to Seattle before Kurt offed himself. They really got along and Duff considered inviting him back to his house to hang out but by the time he went to find Kurt his vehicle left.

They had so much in common, they both wanted to be excellent, the perfection. They just had issues and a different way of life. They both struggled, did bad things (well, we are not in their head, we don't know the truth. Media are saying wathever they want). Love them both, I could never choose a side. None of them is innocent, it's like a childhood fight. They were both kids.

Ironic about them having issues with Duff, he came so close to saving Kurt or at least putting it off anyway.

Axl and Kurt two musician outstanding, Kurt Cobain had the sensibility and drama of his personality that made him a legend and icon of his time.

What a lot of people don't know is that Kurt was the one who started the feud between them and Guns N' Roses, not Axl like people think. In 1992, Axl asked Nirvana to open for them on tour, this was before they toured with Metallica, and Kurt said that he hated Guns N' Roses and their fans. I'm not trying to make Kurt look like the bad guy at all. I just thought I'd set the story straight since some people don't know it. But I love, and I have nothing but respect, for both bands.

Axl was initially a Nirvana fan, even wearing a hat with the band's logo in the video for "Don't Cry," but the feeling apparently wasn't mutual. Promoting Nevermind in 1991, Kurt made every effort to draw a sharp line between what the two bands meant. "We're not your typical Guns N' Roses type of band that has absolutely nothing to say," Kurt told Seconds. The following year he told a Singapore publication, "Rebellion is standing up to people like Guns N' Roses."

Kurt's wife was kind of an embarrassment though

I love Kurt

I was much older during this time in the 90s and guns weren’t necessarily accepted among the metal genre because of axl’s behavior and public relations. They fell more into the outcast punk movement as hair metal was on its way out during the time of their height but they were doing a good job keeping it alive in the early 90s for some of us. This was around the fall of metallica too. Alternative started taking a toll alongside soft rock and grunge, human right movements didn’t accept bands who wrote the old time lyrics I grew up with where male singers wrote very particular about women. But Axl took his lyrics a little bit too personal about his life and caused a lot of attention to them and their tours. It was a weird time to watch some of these bands tour together knowing well they didn’t get along. Regardless they’re all just human beings like the rest of us with opinions, if you took away their fame and fortunes.

Kurt was really talented, I love Axl's music and I also love Kurt's!

***** nah, not in my opinion. everyone has their own music tastes, but i prefer kurt over axl any day. i do enjoy some of guns n roses' music, but nirvana was always better sounding to me. something about kurt's voice and writing style appeal to me more than axl's.

PEOPLE, GnR and Nirvana were very similar, they both actually hated the hair band scene and had other things in common. Just enjoy them both..

To Kurt, Punk meant musical freedom, to listen and play whatever you wanted, not really about going against the mainstream just because it's popular, that'd just be mindless. When Nirvana signed over to Geffen, The band had 100% artistic control. Musical freedom is what he lived up to.

Kurt was more talented artistically?... Really?... only being able to write songs within the 'grunge' limitations, and not being able to write a more eclectic catalogue of songs is regarded as being more talented artistically than somebody that wrote varied sounding songs like; Welcome to the Jungle and November Rain... Yesterdays and You Could Be Mine... Rocket Queen and Estranged... Kurt was an excellent song-writer, and I loved Nirvana, but his songs were so samey, they had the same structure and approach and journey right through to the end of the song... Axl Rose wrote a far more eclectic array of songs than Kurt, and we can all clearly hear that on both the UYI albums.. And Truer? Axl was a man of great honesty, and that was his trouble, he wouldn't lie or shift his stance on something for anyone, hence why he'd get arrested a lot and get fined... Watch the video "Duff Mckagan reconnecting with Axl Rose" video on YT... Duff says "That man cannot lie...Axl can't lie...he's real." ... And DEEPER? Read all the UYI lyrics. Axl was a very deep man... And KINDER?... Well, Kurt Cobain infuriated Dave and Kris because he tried taking them to court...Why? When Nirvana signed Kurt promised that ALL the song royalties would be equally split 3-ways even though he wrote the lyrics and melodies...but when 'Nevermind' exploded, and Kurt realised that he was effectively giving Dave and Kris millions, he tried to break the contract and demanded that he should receive more in royalties because he was the main songwriter....Doesn't sound very kind to me.

Kurt's a rock legend. Okay? Nothing can fucking change that. He WAS successful so there's really nothing anybody can say about him. r.i.p Kurt

Let's see here. Nirvana -- the only ounce of actual musical talent was in the drummer, Dave Grohl. GnR -- Every single member of the band was immensely talented. A 1 year student of guitar can play any Nirvana song. A 3 year student of guitar can't play the majority of GnR songs. I'm sure this is gonna bring the hate from a bunch of whiney and emo crybabies, but Nirvana has got to be one the single most overrated bands ever. No one will ever look back on the "grunge" era as a high point in musical talent. Quite frankly that's when the real talent was sucked out of music since any asshole with a PoS fender and flannel shirt was given a record deal in spite of the fact that they can't play real music worth shit.

I hear what you're saying, but Nirvana wasn't all about skill, or showing off. They were about the art of making music and they were extremely innovative. I find a lot of other grunge bands very pale in comparison, because they were trying to show off, and imitate nirvana. But that wasn't why people loved nirvana. They were innovative, and it was a new sound. Guns and roses was a very different band, they were great, but not as innovative. Slash is a better rock guitarist than kurt was, but he couldn't come up with half the amazing shit and guitar lines that kurt did. I'm a fan of both bands but I prefer nirvana, and that's a preference. They both had some serious issues, but kurt seemed like a nicer guy than axl.
