Kurdish flamenco fusion! ‘From Sulaimani to Spain’s Seville’
A group of Kurdish and Spanish musicians got together for a performance that was a musical dialogue between traditional Kurdish music and Flamenco rhythms, called ‘From Sulaimani to Spain’s Seville’.
The performance featured Kurdistan’s Bejan Jaza and Spain’s Inma La Carbonera.
It was filmed in Sulaimani on December 13, 2020, produced by the Kurdish daf player Hazhar Zahawi, and sponsored by Rudaw Media Network.

Persian has been saying for a hundred years that Kurdish is a dialect of Farsi and adds 1000 years to its history every year. All these lies by holding Kurdish Nowruz and recognizing the Kurdish language as the richest language and the foundation of the Indo-European branch and establishing the Kurds as a nation that serves nature and animals through agriculture and animal husbandry. For years now, the occupiers want to destroy the Kurdish national identity by assimilating and Kurdish culture. Zahavi's intention is to match the notes, melody, text and instruments of Kurdish music with Farsi, as well as to destroy the Kurdish collective dance, and these are clearly evident from his works.
