Kung Fu Masters - Ying Yee Kwoon, Fu Jow Pai & more -1988

Спорт

In 1988, legendary Tiger Claw master Wai Hong decided that Chinese martial arts needed a shot of publicity. He organized the first Kung Fu Master Exhibition in Chinatown, NYC. It was an afternoon of martial art education as a number of masters demonstrated with their students. Here Sifu Tony Lau of the venerable Ying Yee Kwoon speaks and demos along with Master Tak Wah Eng representing Fu Jow Pai. Examples of Northern Shaolin, White Eyebrow as well.

I spent many years studying with Sifu Tony Lau in NYC. I have all of this on VHS and one of these days I need to get around to encoding it all and then upload it to youtube.

It is great to see Sifu Anthony Lau...I studied kung fu with Sifu at the Ying Yee Kwoon Academy in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NYC for some time with my cousin....the lessons learned and great times spent with Sifu will always be with us....

Wow! I was there with Sifu Lau's karate contingent. Although, Sifu Anthony Lau is mostly known for Hung Gar, he also was a student of Peter Urban. Thus, we performed a karate demostration. I was one of the uke's for that demonstration with then 1st dan black belt John Benedict.

I am an avid fan of Martial Arts history, and it pains me to see that traditional martial arts is being put to the side for MMA. I love traditioal martial now and forever.

Its okay, Cung Le is one person that came into MMA and showed people that traditional martial art is extremely powerful. Most traditional martial artists who are really dedicated won't go into MMA because it is mostly about the fame and martial arts is supposed to be about making yourself better. Look Cung Le up, he is undefeated.

Sorry, the show has been off the air since 2003. There wasn't any advertiser support for it by then. We would be very happy to start up again if somebody could find a sponsor. Martial Arts seems to scare off people with money unless it's MMA matches. We are not interested in MMA except as a training style on an equal level with all other martial arts. Perhaps one day but we're not sure.
