So interesting and beautiful. I love how the different oiran schools all have their own style of doing that swoop step. Some are more deliberate and methodical, others put more of a curve and a dance-like movement into it. I would love to learn more about oiran. It’s all so beautiful and mysterious. Most people know about geisha, and some even know the culture a bit, but it appears to me as if only a few foreign people seem to know about oiran.

The designs on the kimono and obi are very modern as well as the apprentices hairstyles- very modern nihongami not traditional. the kamuro cosplayers and male attendants look so done

I think these are not maiko. These are attendants to Oiran, so the hairstyles are different, and the obi knots are tied in the front.

@@Oshidorinohina so, are Shinzo the older attendants? I know the kamura are the little girls. I’m having trouble looking up Shinzo because the results keep coming up with the prime minister. I know the furisode and tomesode are referring to the types of kimono, but Shinzo escapes me.

@@GrandmARKGamerLady yea! shinzo is the next step in the apprentice for an oiran, and this new rank determines if she is to be chosen to progress to a higher rank and eventually oiran in the future. Shinzo is when her training officially begins, much like a maiko. tomesode shinzo are higher ranking courtesans who have a chance at being picked to be the next "oiran" but often times just remained as they were until they died of disease or paid off their debts. There is a full list of what the oiran terms, but I can't remember where I saw it, and it includes detailed names of their ranks. Yobidashi-Chuusan, Chuusan, and Tsukemawashi were the top 3 ranks of "oiran". but they became oiran to everyone else as it just lumps them all together without recognizing the signifigance of their status. It gets really complicated and I myself am still learning about them.

地域によって着せ方も見せ方も少しずつ違うんだね こういう準備しているところって見てるだけでも好きだなぁ 禿ちゃん役の子達は着物は同じだから借りてるのかな 新造役の人達は着物は自前だったのかな 着物の柄が新しいし 新造役の人達って違った着方できて嬉しそうだなぁ 見ていてほっこりする ただ やっぱり花魁さんの着物の着付けは男衆さんがしっくりくるなぁ

素人にレベルの高いものを求めるのはナンセンスかと思います。実際の花魁も何年も練習して歩いていたそうですよ。レベルの高い道中が見たかったら、坂東玉三郎さんの籠釣瓶花街酔醒の花魁道中がおすすめです！綺麗ですよ！
皆さん独特な容姿ね、、熊本美人の特徴かしら？見なれない顔立ちにビックリ よく見たらお客さんも。。
