    Really good explanation of the diff lock design. On the bigger tractors 90% of the time I will just apply some brake to the wheel that starts slipping and it will make the other wheel grip. I sure wish the BX had individual wheel brakes. Very nice gifts for the giveaway!

    Thanks Ben! And you'll now find lots of cars and trucks use the ABS brakes to mimic limited slip differential. By applying the brakes to the slipping wheel and forcing power across to the other wheel that has grip, but still being an open diff setup.

    You need to have slight tire rotation to let the pins slide into the holes so yes tires should be rotating, at different speeds slowly, that's why it makes it easier to have engagement by turning to the left or right. Can't be done from a dead stop.

    Hi Ross ! I should not post this, but I think I'm a dope. When I'm on snow, and snowblowing, and am in 4 wheel drive.... I was under the assumption ALL 4 tires had power to them. I also thought that when in 2 wheel drive, that both rear tires had power. So this is not the case ? or is it, but if one of the tires encounters any sort of friction, that wheel will stop turning and all power goes to a single back tire ? ... I think I need another video from you LOL. #1 - should we ever use that diff lock while using 4 wheel drive mode ? I'm confused. I'm a weekend warrior, own a tractor and don't really know what I'm doing. eeks. Thanks for the video, you gave some good info there, and made me realize how little I know about tractors LOL

  • @RossOnTheLand

    @RossOnTheLand

    2 жыл бұрын

    In 2WD, power goes to the rear wheel with less resistance. In 4WD power goes to the one front and one rear wheel with less resistance. When Diff lock is on, power is sent equally to both rear wheels. because the rear differential is "Locked" and has no effect on the front wheels. They stay as an open diff.

    Hi Ross, I have an example.... the other day I was using the snowblower and going up a little bit of an incline. The tractor was in 4WD, but it started to slip. I looked down and saw one of the rear tires was spinning a little bit. ( it lost grip ) .... now in this case, if I had pressed down on that DIFF LOCK, - if what I've learned from you is correct, - I may have been able to drive up that little bit of hill with that DIFF LOCK engaged ? ... so basically it forces all wheels to turn ( they are powered in 4WD ) and that DIFF LOCK engaged ? ... is that about right ?

  • @RossOnTheLand

    @RossOnTheLand

    2 жыл бұрын

    Exactly! But only the rear wheels lock. Both rear wheels would have in essence become one solidly linked wheel. Rotating at the same speed no matter if one was on the ground, and the other way up in the air. Both would turn at the same speed. If, in that case you then lifted the foot lever, the wheel in the air would get all the power and you'd sit there spinning that one free wheel. The one on the ground would stop moving.
