Great video, as usual. I’ve had one since summer 2016 and it’s my favourite of all the street bikes I’ve owned. The LC8 engine is a genius of engineering, with no fancy “shift cams” needed to produce this kind of power & torque.

@@keltecdan A few initial warranty glitches, which were covered. Rear preload failure (don't increase the load setting with rider and passenger aboard. Flash reset fixed it). Excess gaps in the side bag covers (replaced under warranty, since fixed on newer models) Sidestand tang replaced, (since fixed at factory) Bembo m/c replaced or repaired (not KTM related, affected Aprilia, Ducati & others). One cool thing is, when the Gen II GT came out in 2019, there was a software update that upgraded the suspension compliance, power characteristics (much smoother at low revs) and improved the quick shift. Basically, a 2019 bike for an hour's labour. Hats off to KTM for that. Trouble-free for several years now, with 40,000kms on the clock.

This is my third KTM and my absolute favourite. Love the GT. Mine doesn't have a fancy exhaust like yours, but the sound is still awesome. Great bike, great power and great riding. Oh, btw, love your videos, even if you couldn't do the power wheely with the Duke in the other video. :)

@@philiplaurell1163 I take a break every 1.5 to 2 hours. My butt hurts then and its hard on the wrists. Quick shifter is genius. It's very much different if you're riding long distances with cruise control on. But we very seldom ride those kinds of roads. Boring. On this bike I now have 17'000km and the longest day was around 600km.

I totally agree with your comments. After riding a BMW S 1000R for 8 years and needing something "less sporty" this spring, I opted for the 2020 model with a nice discount off the MSRP. Fortunately, I didn't wait for the 2022 model which has only minor updates (although I do appreciate the sportier tires from the factory).

I have one.... But I got rear ended on it 3 months ago... Finally insurance company decides to write it off, I've been on crappy MT09s, tracer 9s and similar bikes, my problem is, I've now test ridden an 890 Duke, a 765RS and Tuono V4 1100 Factory, love all of them but I think the tuono has it for me, but I CAN'T REMEMBER what it's like to ride this bike, I just know it was insane fun... I don't know whether I should get the Tuono V4 as a replacement or another one of these. The Tuono was one of the best bikes I've ever ridden but I just can't compare it to this in my mind...

I think you are totally right and this is not the first time that I have your same thought. There's just one thing that I can go on enough to buy this great bike ... The design...

I am thinking the trading my 22 Tiger 900 gt pro for this monster. My previous bike was R1250R and I really miss that torque but the clunky quick-shifter and buffeting issue (puig touring screen) forced me to sell it. But I am super happy with Tiger 900 also, 0 problems, no buffeting, lots of techs, easy to handle, and a super relaxed travel machine with a perfect quick-shifter. Oh man, I hate dilemmas.

Austria has great roads for bikes and its close to my country.

Hey Schaaf, hope you can help. I’ve seen recently that you’ve ridden a Yamaha Mt-10 2022. I am torn between this and SDR. Which one gives more of a fun ride? I’ve mt-10 sp on order but idk which will be a better option. I want a nice torquey fun bike. But I don’t have much wheeling skills. Just want pure fun on the road. My GT is packed for the winter now😢 and it's nice video to watch with a bit of nostalgia😋 especially since I've never heard the sound of this machine riding like I often do without a significant wind noise🤣 was the akra with or without dB killer? (mine is without) I've also watch your Tuono V4 video back to back with this one... the GT sound is not that far off from V4😁 at least on the video, not as crisp but still...😋

An underrated bike for sure. Ideally its the perfect bike to commute on (if anyone wants to commute on it) and to go for touring on weekends because of its comfortable seating and handlebar position.

That sound is remarkable... love SDGT with stock exaust for daily use but for fun yours is top. I have mine for sale but each time i drive and see any video with SDGT i inflate the price. Conclusion: Have mine for sale for more than a year and i think that it will be for sale for another year hahahaha... i have other bikes but the beast is just... Fuc... awsome...

Nice ride as always Schaaf. I had an opportunity to ride my son's GT a year back and it seemed very good although I found the throttle a bit too twitchy in the fast mode. He got rid of it very quickly because it was so unreliable, having hardly run it in.

Are frequent gear changes necessary in the KTM 1290? Riding GPZ 1100 (front sprocket-1) I make every turn in 3rd gear, which KTM does here in 1st gear? At the same time in 3rd gear I can drive over 180 km/h.

I did find this more fun to ride then my versys 1000lt however I do think as a well-rounded vehicle of the Kawasaki is superior. That being said I do also have a garage full of superbikes so I’m not really too sad that it’s not quite as sharp.

@@Schaaf disagree about Versys verses GT? Totally fine… But I know which one will be on the side of the road broken down first. My 1290 superDuke I had about a year ago what is a very fun vehicle. It’s just not able to provide reliable enjoyment. And from what I understand about common ownership experiences, I am justified. Or maybe I am totally misunderstanding what you meant by that and I’m rambling for no reason… Either way thank you for replying

Why wait, pick one up now. You won't regret it. My 2020 is the best bike I've owned so far. Might be a couple years before another remake comes out if at all.

Hi bro Very nice video as usual, and even more interesting for me...let me explain: I have a friend who bought in 2020 this model, and who has a problem: with or without the use of the shifter he encounters on several gears false neutral...Did you have the same problem? I’ve had one since summer 2016. The early ones had a rather clunky quick shift, but with a 2019 update was much improved. Your buddy’s bike has a problem. Shifting is usually excellent on these bikes.

I'm going to be using it for weekend blasts but touring as well. I've seen your recent videos of the multi V4, is the V4 a massive improvement on the 1260s? Still not even seen one in the flesh but hearing raving reviews

Great video Schaaf. I’m still not a fan of the KTM look and feel, but if I had to pick one of their bikes this one would be it. This video confirms it. A bit off-topic, but I would love for Aprilia to learn a bit from Ktm on this one. I know that they tried to turn the standard 2021 Tuono into a little GT, but for god’s sake what on earth are those asymmetrical sidebags? For instance just imagine a Real touring Tuono with a proper touring kit? For me it would be an absolute killer sport tourer. Arguably the best engine and chassis performance, combined with a bit more range, and the possibility to carry something more than a pair of spare socks.

Nicht wirklich, die Multi ist für mich eine Reiseenduro, die GT ein Sporttourer. Unter den Sporttourern ist die GT mein neuer Favorit, unter den Reiseenduros noch immer die Multi :) Glücklicherweise kann ich mir beide nicht leisten, daher gibts von mir jetzt auch keine Antwort auf die berühmte "Welche, wenn du nur eine haben könntest?"-Frage ;)
