Here's to you Sammy Rubin... We probably experience a thousand truly memorable events in our short lives. A few of mine include my brief high school friendship with Sammy Rubin. Sammy, which is what he called himself before he became famous, was truly the funniest guy I knew. I think I’m witty, but this guy could make someone on their deathbed bust a gut. We met while we were both writers and on-air reporters for Student News, the broadcast produced by the Los Angeles Unified School District that aired on a local UHF station in the 1970s. My fondest memories of that huckster were that he would take me aside at dull parties and say, “let’s fight.” It was pretending, of course. But he would scream and holler and we’d roll around on the ground like we were going to kill each other. It was wonderful fun. When a crowd surrounded us and pleaded for us to stop, Sammy would stand up, pick me up by the hand and give me a big hug. We would laugh like lunatics and the duped partygoers would sneer and utter something along the lines of “oh it’s just those guys.” Sammy graduated high school before me, went off to college and we never talked again. But I have the fondest memory of the guy. Sammy passed away this week. I will never forget his effervescent charm and wicked sense of humor.

This doesn't explain too much of what did him in. When you're older, you have to get a physical every year. If the doctor see's something wrong on your EKG or your stress test, he may send you to a cardiologist, especially if you have risk factors like family history. He will prescribe cholesterol lowering drugs or blood pressure meds if you need to improve your numbers, as well as diet and exercise advice. It would be interesting to know if his physicals indicated any trouble.
@daryldehart8875
2 ай бұрын
I can agree with most of your points and I have had several heart attacks with normal EKG’s. Walked into the Emergency Room with all normal vitals and the giveaway was my blood enzymes were through the roof. The highest level the ER Cardiologist has ever seen for a patient still functioning and working a 12 hour day. There are symptoms and warnings that I ignored and blamed on indigestion from the prior day. 2nd time I suffered a H/A the stent broke in the center of the vessel and the vessel collapsed.

I actually just found out about his death. I am so sorry to hear about this. My condolences to his family & friends😢
I was always educated and entertained by Sam Rubin's reports on WGN . He came across as genuine and knowledgeable , my prayers go out to his family and friends . Rest in peace Mr. Rubin .
I live in the LA area and am just finding out about this today! It tells you how much I care about the news these days. I used to watch KTLA Morning News when it first launched back in the early 90s with the original crew. I'm sorry and sad to hear of his passing. He was always a class guy.
90% of people survive a heart heart attack poor Sam was in that 10% that didn't he was a once in a lifetime talent at what he did and how he did it, irreplaceable and will truly be missed😢

Oh my god he’s dead
Most likely he had the”widowmaker” he should have gone to the hospital when he didn’t feel good. He would have had a good chance of surviving it. Of course this is all supposition. But odds are that’s what he had.

Yes, was thinking the same thing. He did have insanely high cholesterol and glucose numbers just about two years ago when he revealed how he was told he really needed to do something with his numbers, like changing his diet and stuff.

Mr Rubin also appeared for commentary on British television, that's where I became aware of him. What a loss.

An irreplaceable void, but a beautiful legacy left by a loving Sam Rubin who connected others everywhere he went. A mensch. 💛
Sad last couple days in Southern California We miss him so much
Condolences 💐 to family and friends.
Sam was the reason I watched the KTLA morning news. He was funny and sincere. ❤
Saw Sam on Thurs morning-then Fri he was gone- was shocked-tears for him...Sam lives on through his children ****RIP
I had one possibly several. I thought it was just heart burn or acid reflux. But there was one point it would NOT go away. When to the ER and was shocked. If you have chest pains, please get it checked as soon as yesterday.
Sam Rubin, RIP very beloved by this viewer of KTLA, though I now live outside Calif.
My deepest condolences to his family.
He definitely is put in a special unique and joyful category on how he did his work and he will eternally be missed.❤✅🐻❄️🦅

A shame no one was there to help him when he first felt the symptoms.

It’s more likely that nobody recognized that what was happening was a heart attack or Sam himself quite possibly minimized any concerns. Both scenarios are quite common.

The only way to fix this is nanomachines and an app. They need to hurry up with that kind of stuff to monitor vitals on your own. Useful tech comes far too slow. Yet the military is already weaponizing robots.....

AND on top of that he’s a man. Need I say more? Men are notorious for not admitting that anything is wrong.

Yeah like the nurses when they put the needle in his arm. They could’ve helped by not doing that or Biden when he mandated it. Could have made it so there was no symptoms to be had but keep playing blind to it like nobody knows why this happened. People like you part of the problem playing dumb
Sam made a lot of people smile. RIP Mr. Rubin, sir. ❤
I'm not even from the L.A. area and I've heard of him. Peace to his family!

Don’t ask questions, we’re all in this together!
Sam had great comedic timing. I made sure to sign the petition that he get a star. I watched him everyday on Fox5 San Diego. He was one of the best parts of my morning. I was in morning on Friday and then I lost my grandfather that following mother's day. I was like WOOOOO!
Rip 🙏 🪦 sammy

This!
Wasn't there a false reporting of Sam's death a few years back? He called in during a live broadcast to confirm that he was still alive and the whole KTLA team had good laugh. Sad to hear he's really gone. I will always remember the Samuel L. Jackson incident. It was funny to us, but he went through tough times then and he survived it.
Still can't believe it. Rest on peace sam.
rest in peace Sir 🙏🏼

What a loss of good man , he will be missed, all of us must take head of what our bodies are telling us and make time to go to the doctors be with god Sam 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

rest in peace to the great Sam Rubin his strong wicked good sense of humor and a real good sense of pride he will be greatly missed he made us all laugh and made the news not so boring he made it to where you can watch the news and get a good couple laughs out of it he was truly great
Rest in Peace ❤

Missing him really tried follow him. P I P Sam Rubin 💔💔🕊️✨🕊️✨

RIP Sam , you will be missed terribly ❤
Some TV personalities are so genuine. You know it's not an act. They greet you, and you could feel a smile coming to your face. Sam was one of those personalities. Like Fred Rogers, Huell Howsers, or Bob Ross. He was a joy to watch. I will miss him. the grey rain curtain of this world rolling back, and all turning to silver glass. a far green country, under a swift sunrise". Godspeed Sam.
He is missed 😢
It’s so sad to hear that he passed away
Life is short, plan your time off now while you’re still alive.
RIP, Sam. . . ❤️
One of the coolest TV personalities ever not one person has anything bad to say about Sam that is very rare these days his bright smile will be greatly missed.
