This made me cry... and miss my parents who died in 2020 (dad) and 2021 (mom). They were my best friends, and the people I wanted to be with more than anyone... with my brothers. A loving family is a gift that never ends, for long after it's gone, the great memories live on! Sending love and peace to Sam's family. What a beautiful, moving tribute!

Sam's colleagues said that Sam Rubin was the same off camera as he was on camera, and family was everything to him. Colby's letter to his dad is a testament to that. The text messages also show the wonderful supportive relationship that Sam cultivated with his son. Deep condolences to his family and colleagues. He was an angel on earth.

The loss of Sam Rubin is so very sad, he was such a likeable man, not a mean word ever came out of his mouth. Prayers go to his family. Bye Sam, you are a star.

That was such a touching message to his dad. I think Sam's sudden passing affected us SoCal residents & Hollywood more than the rest of the country. I grew up watching KTLA News. Sam will surely be missed. May he RIP.

when i head about Channel 5 Jounalist Sam Rubin I cried, like he was one of family, and all of channel 5 news cast, I would get in the morning and put on channel 5 and my boyfriend and i would sit there from 8am to 12pm cuz it would b time for me to get ready for work, and then i would hurry and go to workand put it on for a minute, then when his son came on to say his respect, boy did i cry my heart goes out to the family of Sam Rubin, yes he shall b miss, it touch my heart.he will not b forgotten RIP

My dad was my best friend! I lost him on July 11, 2020….I had turned 44 a week a day before that on July 3. Now I write my dad letters just titled Dear Dad…and there’s questions on there that mayb people have and got the answers to…I haven’t yet…but someday I’ll get the answers. Now I’m making the letters into a book…hoping that one day in some way…my letters inspire others.

@@skater5696 here’s one u can read. Let me kno what u think! Dear Dad, Today officially at 9pm tonite…closes out the school year at UPJ. I can honestly say that even tho I never thought about working at a school…or even at a college campus…I enjoyed my first year! And it was a successful year!! I made some great friendships with the college kids! Met people I never thought I would meet…and they made it a good year for me! So I thank them for that!! And also another thank u to them…for allowing me to b in their lives even if it’s only for a brief moment or a year…u made it very enjoyable for me!! They made ”going to school” interesting to say the least!! They were there when I really started seeing the weight loss…a journey I needed…health reasons…but leave it at that. The friendships I’ve made in a year…the people who inspired me to keep going…the people who tell u that ur awesome…yet don’t tell u y…I’m still trying to find my awesome…I don’t think I found it yet. One day I will! The college kids even stood by me and gave their support thru the heart troubles and the foot pain…that still hasn’t eased up either…stubborn. Yea yea I kno what ur gonna say…we’ll stop there…nothing more to see or hear or read. We stood beside each other not behind…but gave each otheir courage to continue on their journey thru this thing we call life. The “adulting” stage…or is it just a phase? Still figuring that answer out….didn’t get far. Lol! They took it all in…absorbed what they could…took interest in me turning these letters I write to u into a book! With a lot of encouragement behind it!! It’s in the making. The kids did so much more than that tho!! Which is great for them!! They kno they can come to me and talk about anything…without judgement. They kno they have a friend in me…who they want to see me when I’m there and make the effort to see how I’m doing when they kno I’m there! And I want them to kno that the friendship goes both ways…even after they graduate!! They have the encouragement to b inspired while inspiring. What do I mean by that? It means they can take to me and actually want to hear what I have to say or suggest…it also means that they can give me a way to inspire them while inspire me! It means they kno advice taken and given go hand in hand. They kno that they joke around with me and I can do it back…is a good thing to have!! But in all seriousness…they kno that classes come first…because they r the next generation who needs inspired!! So y not now? It doesn’t matter how old u r to inspire and b inspired. So I say DO IT!! But do it for u…because its then when u can when u can inspire urself…that u can inspire others. Also when trying to inspire others they in turn inspire u…to b a better version of u every day!! It only leads to bigger and better things in life. Without expecting a thing in return. So thank u Dad, for teaching me…on how to b humed and kind…teaching me how to volunteer my time for worthy causes and so much more!! Thank u, for loving me and teaching me how to love and receive it back!! Ur loved and missed!! Until we see each other again…U will Always B My Hero!!
