KTEH was the first PBS affiliate to bring anime to the Bay Area. Here is the old staff during a pledge brake in 1997.

KTEH was the first station in all of America to air Neon Genesis Evangelion (albeit subbed, because ADV hadn't even begun dubbing it yet).

We did have it good. This station is owned and operated by KQED in SF now, but they brought more than anime to public television. British comedies like Are You Being Served, Fawlty Towers, Flying Circus, Dr. Who, Red Dwarf, Blake 7, and more. Those were the days of television. I became a member and gave them money I didn't even have.

You guys in California were really lucky to get anime on a PBS station back in the day - not much luck here in the east coast...

Or in Texas, despite dubbing studios being established in the later part of the 90s.

Wow anime on a PBS station. When I lived in Washington DC area WNVC did cartoons from all over the world and asian shows however they never aired anime.

Man, I remember when you pledge above the 100$ level you could have gotten the entire Tenchi Universe vhs set plus a Ryo-Oki plush! I also remember they did a drive for Key The Metal Idol too. Do you have any footage of that?

This brought so many memories back, altho the first anime I saw from that channel was Urusei Yatsura.

I wish WNET (NYC PBS affiliate) would air anime and Doctor Who.
