KTCA Channel 2 PBS - October 1987 Sign-Off and Credit Roll After Austin City Limits
Here's another sign-off from KTCA Channel 2 (St. Paul-Minneapolis) recorded on Saturday, October 17, 1987 following an airing of Austin City Limits. This must be one of the longer sign-offs they did, with the "TV Worth Watching" theme music playing as they show a several title cards for programs they broadcast, which is then followed by a full roll-call...yet they wasted no time pulling the plug as soon as the color bars are displayed.
I'm not sure how long KTCA used this particular sign-off...probably no more than a year or so. My guess is that they stopped using it when they moved from their Como Avenue address (near the fairgrounds) to the Minnesota Telecenter in downtown St. Paul.

This is one cheerful sign off!
I'm more impressed they went to the trouble of "setting up the color bars" like that. You'd think they let it play for another minute or two before cutting the carrier.
Such an epic sign off!
Yes, you're right. KTMA 23 moved into the Como Avenue studios when KTCA moved to downtown St. Paul in 1989.

Such history of certain buildings like that isn't too uncommon. My PBS station once occupied a studio that once belonged to the town's first TV station for many years, they were given them for free I think.
"You'll turn us on and you'll love it"... Sounds like a threat. I also remember the "TV Worth Watching" jingle being used on KERA in Dallas, except instead of "public TV" they sang "channel 13".

PBS used the same song for all their stations and just altered the lyrics to match the station or would just leave it generically as "Public TV"
Imagine You Are a kid in 1987 And You Are Watching Tv with your Parents and then you hear 🎶You Turn us on and we love it🎶 And then you start Crying because you know it's the Sign off.
Including of course at 1.31 a shot for the former Como Ave. studios along with their sister station KTCI/17...akin to WGBH/WGBX Boston. By the way I read that facility is now where the Twin Cities CW station WUCW channel 23 is now located. That station once called KTMA was where the cult classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 was created.
At 0:27, the theme where the Yamaha DX7 ROM-2A patch “Harmonica 1” was heard.
As a Minnesotan I love this
a real thing of beauty.
That song brings back memories, theme wear the good old days
This a 3d testcard and reversing collapse.

There's just something about that KTCA logo that's just unsettling.
We will not see them no more.

Strange to see Bud underwriting Austin City Limits. Were Lone Star and Pearl Beer extinct at this point?

Lone Star is still around, but they were outbid by Bud for the ACL sponsorship. Pearl, also still around, never underwrote the show. I think they're now underwritten by Shiner Bock, along with Dell, American Airlines, the Austin Convention Center and others.

By chance, does anyone know the preformer of the Austin city limits clip?

David Matthew Vinot, Jr Are you referring to the theme music you're hearing as the credits roll? That is Gary P. Nunn doing "London Homesick Blues."

@PXLTRON i mean. the credits have the entire thing. In great quality no less, so we don't even need the master recordings. Edit: Damn, the original response that I responded to that responded this comment is gone. Just found this out 2 years later. Wonder why it was deleted?

KTCA still exists. While they call it "TPT" on the air, the official call letters for the station are still KTCA. TPT is just the umbrella organization that owns KTCA and KTCI.

@@mjanovec Yep. The callsign remains, and even featured at station IDs of TPT. KTCI uses KTCA's digital virtual via 2.3 (as KTCI became TPTLife, and KTCA as the general channel of TPT). They have their transmissions located at FOX Twin Cities Transmitter. KTCA/KTCI resides on virtual 2.

The channel is still technically KTCA, but they use TPT2 as their on-air name. Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) is the name for the overall organization that owns KTCA and KTCI.
