Iliotibial band syndrome is due to inflammation of the iliotibial band, a thick band of fibrous tissue that runs down the outside of the leg. The iliotibial band begins at the hip and extends to the outer side of the shin bone (tibia) just below the knee joint. The band functions in coordination with several of the thigh muscles to provide stability to the outside of the knee joint
Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) occurs when there is irritation to this band of fibrous tissue. The irritation usually occurs over the outside of the knee joint, at the lateral epicondyle, the end of the femur (thigh) bone. The iliotibial band crosses bone and muscle at this point; between these structures is a bursa which should facilitate a smooth gliding motion. However, when inflamed, the iliotibial band does not glide easily, and pain associated with movement is the result.
Treatments for ITBS include rest, icing, strengthening exercises, and stretching. The following KT Tape method is an excellent application for ITBS.

    yes-you can apply two apps at the same time. Just be careful not to overlap tape. The tape sticks much better to skin than it does to itself.

    I have bursitis and osteoarthritis in the hips.......Its so painful I'm trying this tape.........I just got it.........I got the ok tape just arrived yesterday......I hope it helps im in agony......

    Same problem with my hip. What was your outcome? I'm just trying to mitigate the pain of bone on bone before surgery next year.

    i have hip pain right around the bone that sticks out on the hip should i try this taping technique or the technique shown in one of the other videos for hip flexor pain

    Very professionally done video but have you really found this helpful??? This is doing nothing to address what's driving the problem and is part of this misinformation that many runners and triathletes need to navigate through in a quest to resolve their condition. I like tape for acute muscle strains but these are very rare among endurance athletes unless they are really pushing their body in shorter distance races. Yours In Health, Chris J

    Do you think this taping would be effective for stabilizing knee for itb pain? I learned that itb pain is caused by hip flexors and tfl so taping these muscles should alleviate pain right?
