KT Tape: Bunion

Спорт

Bunion
A bunion, also known as hallux valgus, results when the big toe points towards the second toe and results in inflammation of the tissue surrounding the joint. The inflammation causes the joint to become swollen and tender, making everyday activities like walking or jogging very painful.
Bunions are much more common in females than in men. This leads most to believe that bunions are often time caused by wearing tight fitting shoes or heels. Genetics also plays an important role in determining the individual's susceptibility to developing the condition.
Often the bunion is not painful and the individual leads a normal active life. Other times the bunion can be very painful, even debilitating. Pain is usually very achy and typically radiates to the toes and along the arch of the foot. Due to the abnormal positioning of the bones in the foot, sharp nerve pains could also be present.
KT Tape can help correct this misaligned joint to relieve pain and pressure over time, as well as increase blood flow to the area for increased anti-inflammatory effect and pain relief. Unrestricted footwear should always be chosen for those with bunions. Surgery is another option for those with serious pain and worsening symptoms.

I have no pain whatsoever and feel very comfortable now that my metatarsophalangeal joint is in correct alignment, so it got me wondering if taping your feet regularly help prevent it from getting any worse overtime???

Hi Lilith, so it’s been a while since I posted this question.. so In the mean time I went ahead got myself a physiotherapy degree 😂. As a physiotherapist, my outlook on this is: yes, taping my provide the correct biomechanical cue in the initial stages of injury/recovery/rehab. However, we should really get a good biomechanical assessment done by a physio to see where in the body we have presenting with muscle imbalances and use the guidance to train the connections from brain-muscle: strength/endurance, flexibility training and balance.. etc as guided 🙂

They make different resistances, but they offer most of the colors in each line. If you buy from a store, they might only have certain colors out of each line, so that's probably where the confusion comes from. I'm pretty sure the green and purple used here are KT Pro.

Looks easy theoretically but isn’t in real practice. Maybe I just don’t understand the end goal of changing the angle of the toe joint. Wish they had shown a bit more on that. But, I am still going to practice to see if I can get it better.

Just take your time and follow, because they are very specific about everything from placement to the amount of give you want in the tape. I rushed one side and followed the other pausing at each step actually paying attention and it turned out perfect.

this doesn't stay on and does not correct the angle of joint as much as the final image implies. Her taped foot did not have a perceptible bunion. Taping this way does not prevent blisters or pain and I repeat: it does not stay on unless you don't move your foot or wear any footwear. Mine even came off in yoga.

I've been doing this for years, and it helps me. It will stick better if you clean your foot and don't moisturize. You can also try stronger tape if you're having problems sweating it off. Mine sticks about 3 days with the original tape but they make a pro and pro extreme that's supposed to be stronger. Or try another brand

I had one bunion done through surgery but unfortunately, though I don't have a bunion as such, the toe isn't as straight as it was right after surgery. Though I know someone who had hers done many, many years ago and her toe is still dead straight. Perhaps it depends on the surgeon!
