I think they do what's called a suicide burn. They wait until the last minute to fire the engines just enough to kill velocity when it's about to land

@@omahasammanThere isn’t a mod manager for Real Solar System. You probably mean Module Manager. Look up the relevant download info, you probably made a mistake during installation. Alternatively, consider using CKAN to install the mod automatically.

Click on trajectories mod tab, in the left where all the mods are. And on opened window there is setting, which lets you to make trajectory to appear not only in map view

The mod is Kerbal Reusability Expansion. Either that, or it is bundled with the Tundra SpaceX mod.
