Krystian Zimerman made his breakthrough in 1975 when he won First Prize at the International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw. I don't think there is a "correct" way to play chopin...even so, listening to zimerman is always a great pleasure!

But there is an ''incorrect'' way to play Chopin.. If you know what I mean. Zimerman is too good though!!

I remember hearing my father play this in a recital he gave in 1971 when I was 9 years old. I’ll never forget thinking ‘My dad is amazing’ as I listened.❤️

From all the Zimmerman recordings, this is my favourite. His expressions (both facial and body) shows a level of excitement that definitely belongs to a scherzo. Most of his other video recordings of him show him playing in a conservative manner: no exaggerated motion. But this one, Zimmerman couldn't hide his excitement, and it shows in his body language. It's interesting to see a different side of Zimmerman. Of course, the auditory aspects are amazing too. Grand and loud but not banging, utterly magical, exciting, clean phrasing... Amazing interpretation. Out of all his interpretations, this one is the one that captivate me the most. I wish I can hear him live just once in my lifetime...
Probably my favorite pianist.

You likely not his favorite either
Technical excellence and yet the warmth and emotion Chopin would have wanted.
When someone says: „show me how should pianist behave” I show him Kristian Zimmermann❤️
It is the 10th time I am seeing in a single week Wonderful never heard someone play the scherzo 2 this good. It is a pleasure hearing zimerman play. Bravissimo

Piękno muzyki Fryderyka Chopina to fenomen graniczący z cudem. Brawo Zimerman.
Saw him played this piece in recital weeks ago, with totally different interpretation to this one, but both are amazing.

I know it's been 4 years since your comment, but I'd love to know what differences you found between this interpretation and the one you heard! Greetings.
Perfect timing and articulation. No more words.
It sounds so soft every time! Even in the chords, the top note of the main run, and the left hand How does he do that!
This is my favorite Chopin piece. The drama and change in sections are all yet wholly joined....a strong, even, masculine, assertive minor key representation for sure.
Zimmerman isn't a legend. He is a living legend.
Very wonderful ~ both the Scherzo and the pianist! Thank you so much! ❤
Excellent performance
Wonderful performance. Mesmerizing . Thank you very much K.Zimerman .Bravissimo.❤ And DG too to enable us sharing this part of Eternity.
great depth to the notes, great coloring, it is the first time i hear it like that.
Just beautiful! 👍🌟💛
Amazing!!!!
Cudowna muzyka genialnego Chopina, boskie wykonanie.
Großartig in jeder Hinsicht!
Bravo Kristian 💐. Excellent 👍 . This is the correct performance of Chopin . sit correctly & facial expressions are professional . Such a beautiful & luxury place . Thanx Deutsche Grammophon . 🌹
Beautiful
Excellent audio capture!!! (Specially for 1987!!!) It really highlighted Zimerman's beautiful and expressive piano playing.
very good. breath taking performance!
What a soul-touching performance!
Stupendo👏👏👏
Maravilloso!!!!
bravo!!
Great
great
1966 Martha Argerich provides an incredible range of nuances without even using the "una corda" pedal (I think) like Zimerman does. She also got more rhythmical nerve and shuts sharply the sound on the staccato notes before the silence values. Zimerman is yet splendid as always.

I believe this piece sounds much better without the sharp staccato that doesn’t even allow you to enjoy the greatness of the part
Mistrz!
Chopin is actually unbelievable😱
Восторг!
Holy cow!!!
👏👏👏
Notes on 9:48 make my heart melt everytime
Excellent performance. One should also listen to audio recording of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli on Scherzo 2.
It’s doesn’t matter what’s on the page just as long as you tell the story of what you believe the music is telling you and the people listening
7:51 what a sad moment it is ㅜㅠ
😍😍😍🤩🤩
3:00 zimmerman controls the piano with the left pedal and is using pressure on it with control as well as the left :0
Que sala maravilhosa é essa?
If you listen closely you can hear him hum the melody at times!

Whats going on at around 4:50 (and other similar passages like 6:30)? The right hand is written, in alternate bars, crotchet quaver quaver triplet but he plays crotchet then 2 sets of triplets in these bars... is this how Chopin meant it to be?
Call me crazy but the mannerisms shown @2:38 I’ve seen in Seong Jin Ho and Yundi Li at some point. Not sure if it’s just a coincidence. Particularly since Seong Jin Ho mentioned Zimmerman was one of his heroes😊.
If you listen carefully you can hear him sing the melody at some moments !
Just incredible.

Of course this is absolutely wonderful. But, I think my favourite interpretations of the Scherzi are a bit madder, more like a mental breakdown expressed through the keys than an elegant or romantic song...
And so untypical an emding....the last rushing and loud last major key measures ending this B flat minor piece.
😮 Rubinstein plays it better
