I'm an atheist and even I approve this statement. Being able to pry Sora, complete with Mickey Mouse head logo keychain and all, out of the hands of Disney -- and even including Donald and Goofy, if only in spirit, with the Valor and Wisdom forms -- cannot be considered anything but an act of a god. Daddy Sakurai may very well be the god of video games.

The handshake at the end genuinely got me. What a way to end this game. Truly a legend. Sakurai is my hero.

Today I watched a video about how Mario64 was the first reason Nomura wanted to head up a games project, heard from friends and associates that mario64 only worked with pre established characters like Disney characters and years later.... guess what? SE was in talks with Disney and Nomura negotiated to make a 3d adventure game with Disney characters. To see Mario shake Soras hand in that context is monumental.

Can we just take a minute to remember that Sora is now not only connected to all the disney universes, but now all these video game ones too and thats 100% in character for him. He's literially the closest being to becoming the connection of all fictional characters here.

What an amazing time it's been. If it was for Kingdom Hearts, most of us wouldn't have got into Final Fantasy. What an Era to have lived in 😎🤘

The fact Sakurai got disney to consent with Sora being playable in smash is absolutely wild. While I never played KH, I'm happy fans of it finally got Sora. Not to mention the KH games coming to switch

They're adding cloud versions so maybe some will play. Only played chain of memories(cause handheld)and it was awesome

To get the handshake of approval from Mario has to be a developers greatest dream come true. I wonder how to creators of Kingdom Hearts feel.

it felt like a dream that dropped from a distance but it was just simple and clean

3 years... For three damn years from the very start, Sakurai has been working on this project. A giant path has been traveled, and damn it, it was just a great journey! I don't have a switch, but what a pleasure to watch what is happening

What better way to end the ultimate crossover fighting game, than with a character from another epic crossover?

I wonder if the fire and the fact that Mario hesitated to touch the fire symbolizes the legal firestorm that they had to go through to get the rights to use Sora.

For Sakurai to pull all this off is so amazing From dealing with the legal stuff to recreating the OG Sora and his moveset, that guy has outdone himself Thank you, Sakurai

I think if the trailer had symbolism, I'd say the flaming logo fading and the trophies solidifying meant the game was ending as all the characters were in except for the one flame. So Mario realized it and knew he needed to awake whoever the fighter was. I feel like Mario knows whoever was in, he knew they'd be worthy no matter what.

I agree with that. But I would go so far as to say that Mario’s body language in approaching the fire makes me think of the legal firestorm that Nintendo had to go through just to get Sora. I sensed hesitation in Mario’s hand and eyes as he first reached to the flame, almost like ‘is this right?’

Man I've never touched Kingdom Hearts and I still yelled "WHAT?!" when I saw the keychain because I NEVER thought it would happen. Happy for the KH fans

Since you talked a lot about Sakurai making the impossible possible here, I just wanted to remind everyone of something. That’s literally what Sakurai said in his first presentation revealing SSBU. Then it was in the context of bringing every fighter from every past version of Smash into one game… but that really was his philosophy about this whole game from beginning to end. The impossible made possible… this man right here. 🥰

I do so need what Sakurai is adding in his coffee... To get the consent from Disney to have Sora added to Smash is... Like wow... It would've taken forever to get that consent from the biggest cheapskates of the entertainment industry(Disney took out Fox International out of the PH(and SEA) just to promote the use of Disney+, how the hell am I gonna watch NCIS now!?)!

Sakurai is a god amongst all gamers. He rightfully deserves his time away from the game. He will ultimately be known as the man who had assembled one of the largest fighting rosters in fighting games history and no one could ever break his record. If I was Sakurai I would step away from directorial roles and retire on a high and we will all be thankful to him but knowing I am not Sakurai he will not step away from his fans since he loves everyone and he will have plenty of new IP ideas in his head that have not manifested yet. I wonder what Sakurai will do now after Smash Bros. Only time will tell.

Damn, at first I was kinda disappointed, but the more I look at this, the more I feel kinda excited, and maybe I should finally get around to playing Kingdom Hearts. I tried it before with a friend, but I never really got far into it at all. I just couldn't take the game seriously because of the Disney characters. Not that I don't like Disney, it just feels so goofy (pun not intended). But maybe I can take the game seriously. Maybe there is actually something to be excited for. I mean, people must really love this series for a reason. Other thing that kinda put me off from it was because it kept coming out with these 2.5 (etc) versions. Which I still don't really understand if they are sequels or are re-releases of the same game but with changes.

They're collected remasters of the games. You'd need a lot of different consoles to play all the original games, but between 1.5, 2.5, 2.8 and 3 you could get caught up on almost the entire saga on one console

I could never get into Kingdom Hearts. I was hoping for Scorpion from Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat is apparently banned in Japan I think so Scorpion was probably never going to happen.

@@ToberryRequiem Oh hang on! my mistake! my bad! I just saw online that apparently it HASN’T been banned in Japan! turns out I got fooled by the false rumours! Instead it’s actually been Localised! So what this means is Japan disapproves of the game for specific reasons but will not stop or govern the residents that purchase it from overseas!

Why were people asking for different character looks for the skin/color selection? That wouldn't have made ANY sense. Riku, Roxas AND Ventus have completely DIFFERENT STYLES from Sora. Riku actually using Darkness, Ventus holding his backwards, and Roxas is a dual-wielder. My god, goes to show how ignorant people really are. EDIT: only way they would have gotten those looks in is via Echo Fighters, which as they made clear from the start, is NEVER going to happen. Period.

Remember Sakurai messages: it doesn't matter who they're and what they're as long as they're enjoyable then they're fun characters And you didn't took his words, even for me I was hype for Doomguy too. Sakurai did his job, he needs to take a break, so shut the disrespect
