On my T7 I use the 2 12L, the Large tail bag, and the 2 6L, I’m trying to outfit R1250 GSA. Beautiful setup for sure, stay safe and ride on.

Thanks for your kind words. Mosko Moto seems to be heavily influencing the internet and while I admit there kit looks top notch I’m still convinced the flexibility and simplicity of Kriega wins. I’m still using my base system virtually everyday on my way to work…it brilliant. It also performed brilliantly on a recent trip to North Africa ( video out soon). I have had Kriega “stuff” for a few years. It really is top gear and takes abuse, then shrugs it off and just carries on. Great real world review. 👍

Thanks mate. When I was at the ABR I went to the Kriega stand with Leigh. I asked for a free t Shirt as I know my previous videos about their kit have sold quite a few bags for them (people have commented to say they got them after watching the videos) As there was no WI-FI I couldn’t prove any of that so they made me wait for ages, saying they were “busy” I walked away feeling “dirty” & “used”.😂

Very valuable overview Steve 👍🏼 I just like to add that the OS-bags are available in 22, 32 and 38 L versions, too. You can also mount the large ones with an adapter plate to the OEM T7 pannier rack. We can be glad that 4 years after the T7 launch we have so many good products to choose from. Have a good Sunday, Bernd

I have the exact same setup, and use it the exact same way (rack pack attached at the front to the saddle, and at the back to a compact rear rack. Very easy to unclip if you need to go inside a hotel room, and the saddle unstraps quickly too with bags attached to it still. I ran two BDRs for 4200 miles off road last June, crashed plenty of times, dragged the bike through mud and over rocks and these bags have been tough as nail, they look brand new (aside from some slight dirt, even after a wash). I love that system, and the combination of crash bar bags and the 18 liters on the sides even save your legs in a crash, like little cushions. For my fuel bottle, I just use a Nelson rig holster, and a gallon of water in a Giant Loop Cactus Canteen. I latch both behind my butt, onto the saddle.

Over the years I’ve tried a multitude of set ups and although I’ve come close to being happy I’ve never quite got there. I genuinely think the set we are both using is the Unicorn / Goldilocks solution. I’ve never owned other brands but I’ve watched enough videos and done a ton of research and although some come close none are as light, tough and flexible as the Kriegas. I decided a long time ago to only do long term reviews. I’ve had a few offers from smaller companies asking if I’ll review their kit, as soon as I say I need to test it for a minimum of 6 months they are not interested. I know a lot of KZreadrs that take the kit and do a quick video, which is fine by me but it is little more than an unboxing and fitting video. Admittedly, still practical but I feel long term testing is more useful for the wider motorcycle community. I hope one day this pays off but the channel needs to grow much bigger before any sponsors get on board. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it’s appreciated. I’m still using my OS base virtually everyday on my daily commute. It still remains bombproof.👍🏼

Hi, many years ago I did a kit list video but that was with aluminium panniers and a GS. The way I pack has significantly changed since then! I am about to film a video on camping stoves for the adventure biker but that’s not what you need. Also have the Kriega os-base system with the 18 liters and a us 40 on top. Tried to pack my things for my coming trips on TET here in Sweden and i can say that this system really is one of the best there is out there, if you wish to go lite and still want space for your gear. Coming from a -18 super Tenere with a weight of plus 265kg without luggage, to this lighter bike ( T7 -23) and lighter bags, that alone has really changed my perceptive of off-road maneuvering and the pure joy to handle the bike with ease when exploring the wonderful surroundings we have around us.

Sweden, I love it. I can be on the Swedish TET within one day from where I live (if I get up early)! Yeah, I agree. My luggage and bike choice has been a bit of an evolution. Starting with a GS with big Aluminium boxes to my set up today. I’m still learning and my set up always slightly changes every season but less and less these days. I guess I’m close to the “Goldilocks” set for my needs. I did. come close to getting the Enduristan bags but I had already invested heavily in Kriega. I’m glad I chose Kriega in the end. Super light, flexible and tough. I know Mosko Moto promotes its company heavily on social media but I think it’s over complicated and less flexible than what you can achieve with Kriega. @GreenString I live in the middle of Sweden where we just have had the largest ski classic race yesterday (Vasaloppet) and we have still lots of snow around us, but a steady stream of farkling and YouTubing are my best way to survive the cold and darkness,so thank you for your excellent reviews and happy trails! Great review! I choose Kriega just because of the modular possibilities: two 6 liter bags for daytrips, two 12 liter bags and a US20 for multi day campingtrips on my 690, but looking at the 18 liter bags to replace the 12 liter because it packs lower on the bike. The base plate accepts all of them.

I was very close to doing a set up of 2 x 12 ltr but as I go camping in early spring / late autumn I need room for warmer clothes and bigger sleeping bag so it made sense to go with the 2 x 18. both are great options. Thanks for the comment mate👍🏻

Thanks for showing. Like some commenters, I have a wide variety of the Kriega US bags, as this was and still is the most adjustable system without permanent frames/panniers. Especially when you have a naked bike (like my old Bandit) with which you go on tour. But recently, I got the Moto Guzzi V85TT as an adventure bike and still need to figure out the best setup - Kriega support said that the OS base should fit, but I wasn't 100% sure based on the frame setup of the V85TT, and he high exhaust. But the US 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 are already in good use; I am just looking to bring some weight to the side of the bike and not only load it to the seat.

I’ve researched and seen reviews aplenty, Kriega is the system for me. Wish they made a system for my Kawasaki KLR 650 specific though. Good vid, thanks👍🏾

Thanks for the comment. The KLR is a popular bike, but not available in Europe as far as I am aware. Maybe an emissions thing? That said I doubt the bike not being available in the EU has nothing to do with there not being a specific base for your bike.

I’ve just returned from another long distance trip (check the trailer out) and changed virtually nothing. I think I’ve hit the Goldilocks set up for me and the type of riding I do. One of the Kriega bags took a big hit but still remains 100%.

But don't know whether the OS system work on my Himalayan 450. You think the OS Base can be mounted on the Himalayan 450? A little help would mean a lot. Great content mate.

@astronautonroad1 .Well I know the 6 ltr bags fit nicely on the front panniers on the Himalayan. Looking at the 450 the rear tail it piece looks like it lacks bodywork where the bags would rest, but I’m probably wrong. All I’ve seen is OS 18s fitted on pannier racks on the Himalayan. It’s a bit frustrating. As you know Kriega do a universal fit. My only advice is to try it out. That said, please keep me updated and I will pin any information for other uses. I’ve had quite a few queries asked by the larger community and any help for other riders in a similar dilemma would be helpful. Sorry I cannot offer any definitive answers. Good luck in seeking answers.

@@GreenString When I asked Kriega they sent me a picture of the OS36 fitted on the older Himalayan. My only other option is to go for the Enduristan Blizzard setup. I did not really like the materials that Enduristan are using to make their products.

Great overview. I am always worried about someone helping themselves to the bags or their contents. Ever had an issue with someone helping themselves to anything?

Good question. The majority of the time I travel with my mate so, for example, when we need supplies one goes in the shop, one stands guard, so that’s never an issue. On my last tour I was solo and I must admit I was concerned about kit/ bike safety. My only real tactic was when I needed supplies (supermarket) I would stay away from large towns with bigger shops and favoured smaller villages. I’ve never had an issue. It could have been I was just lucky?. I think you get a “feeling” if a place is a bit dodgy or not. Equally I only camp so my bike is always next to me overnight so theft at night in a hotel car park is never an issue. I hope this helps. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it’s appreciated 👍🏼

Hey Steve Great review video as normal , as you say , you now have it dialled in , I like you have loads of Kriega kit and was looking for a lighter system instead of always using my US panniers on my GSA , so was looking at getting an OS base and pairing it with my US rack pack like you , do you or anyone else reading this know if the US 20 will fit on the OS base as I already have 3 of these and didn’t just want to buy OS18 if they would work , thanks for any feed back and thanks for another great video mate , stay well and ride safe 👌👍👊

Howdy. I have no idea if that would fit. I know the base does have various slots to fit the various sizes of OS bags, so potentially it could fit? I have heard Kriega customer support is pretty good. I know one person who wrote to say that they had discouraged him from making a purchase because they could not guarantee it would fit his bike so if all else fails give them a ring or pop an email the post. But you are definitely right the US range is equally brilliant and it would be a pity if you could not retro fit it onto another Kriega platform. Please keep me updated on this as it’s a interesting point for the wider community.

Hi Steve, very good review. I am thinking of going with a similar setup from Kriega on my Tenere 700. I am just curious what is the make of the top end luggage metal rack? It looks like it is a good support for the Kriega US 40 bag.

Hi, it’s from Altrider. I’ve been using their stuff for a while now, more recently on the T7 and previously a rear rack on my old GS. It has a superb mounting system and very well thought out. I have noticed, in places, the powder coating has started to rub off but as it’s aluminium this is not a problem and, to be fair it’s had a fairly tough time so far, 25,000km, 10 different countries (including Africa). So yeah I would buy it again. Naturally I cannot comment on other brands as I haven’t tested them out, so, in fairness there could be better out there? Hi, definitely not. I do get what you mean though it’s not easy to see from some camera angles. With that set up it’s the rider only with room to move your body around in the standing position. I hope this helps.👍🏻

Thank you for your in-depth explanation Steve. I am a fan of Kriega too. I in doubt of whether buying this reckless system of the OS-32 and OS-22 soft panniers because I still have the bars of a hard SW-Motech panniers-system. It looks like that it takes some time to mount-up all the separate bags every day. However, the OS-base is more tighter to the bike in comparison to the OS-soft pannier system. What made you decide to choose this system? How much time does it take you to saddle-up the bags each time?

So it seemed natural to gravitate towards the OS base although I always have the option of fitting the 32 ltr bags back on if I feel the need. @@GreenString do you feel it's easier to ride with your current setup offroad compared to the racked one?

After the expering my Kreiga backpack in all weather conditions I am extreamly happy about it, and wanted to get the OS system, I had a problem with it though wich made me go with diferent company instead- my motorcycle has grab-bars on either side of it wich I want to keep. I contacted Kreiga representative and they said it might not fit your motorcycle beacouse of them. If its true, I'm not sure, I went for diferent brand but might be worth trying to fit test it before pourchase. Great rewiev!

I think they look more “appropriate” for the Tenere but as I had already got so many Kriega bags it made sense to stick with the brand and I’m glad I did. I did once ran into the same issue. The OS base is exactly tailored to the T7 shape and does not allow any divination. As I’m running a soft pannier rack panel and a top rack from Adventure Spec the OS base won’t fit. That’s a bummer. Now I’m experimenting a bit with the Kriega Strap Kit fixing it like sattle bags across the backend of the seat. Let’s see how this will work out. If this is not satisfactory I will mount the Outback Motortek pannier racks with the X-Frame installed which would allow me to install the OS-32 bags plus adding a Rotopax 1 gallon fuel pack. Nice added value! 😊 Thanks for the extended review @GreenString! Very valuable!

@@uwestieneker7565 Thanks for taking the time to comment. I came very close to getting the x frame from outback Mototek. I already had a set of OS 32s lying around from when I had my GS. Both options are good (in my opinion) and if you haven’t retro fitted a high exhaust on the T7 the pannier frame will offer some protection to the standard exhaust. The OS 18s do offer some protection when you go over but I think it’s limited. Stay safe my friend and keep riding👍🏻

@@GreenString I actually have mounted the MIVV high exhaust. That works pretty well with the Adventure Spec soft luggage side rack solution. With the mentioned bigger straps I can mount either the OS-32 or the 18. I‘ve checked both as pre-test but the real travel test is still outstanding. In the case the OS-32 mounted sideways I will but the two OS-18 on my top rack. Adding up to flexible 100L then. I do have the OS-6 ones as well mounted like you in your setup.

Kriega is good stuff. What did you use to strap the OS6 to your front crash guards? Rack loops?

No, I just wrapped the hooks / straps that are part of the bags round and slid them into the loops that are on the back of the OS bags (so 4 securing points, two on each strap) The clip on the top of the bag goes over the highest point on the crash bar so it cannot slip down and hey presto no other straps required. It works a treat.

They seem to put a lot of thought into the design so no complains (so far) from me. As you can probably guess I’m a big fan of the OS range. Thanks. I'm in the process of deciding whether I should get OS 18 or the side pannier version. My main concern with getting panniers is that bike will become more tipsy. Does this setup feels tipsy in any way for you?

In a nutshell no. It forces more weight lower on the bike. Don’t get me wrong on the T7 it doesn’t make it less tipsy but that probably more to do with me having short legs! I don’t think you would notice the difference with panniers either other than the additional weight ( if your fitting frames) naturally you can usually carry more kit with panniers.

Which rear rack is that? I have been looking for something that works with my kriega base

Hi, I have just been onto Kriegas website the US 30 Daypack is 295mm or 11.6" wide. As you have seen from the video I run with the US 40. I run this fairly compact (in width) so it's about 480mm or 18.8" in width. To be clear you can see that my US 40 sits just behind OS base (but uses some of its straps to secure it). I have moved it forward and attached it entirely onto the base (to push the weight forward) but it does push down on top of the OS 18s a little bit. Because Im a shorty it also makes swinging a leg over difficult in the forward position. I "think" a US 30 would fit between your 2 OS 12's based on the size. Worst case scenario is you could always mount it length ways on the base. Sorry I cannot be more specific. Read the video description as another rider informed me the US 20 fitted well. If you do bite the bullet and get it please let me know how you get on. I'll pin your response in the comments to assist other riders. Stay safe and keep riding.

I've been wondering the same thing, I have the OS base, no rack with two OS12s. Currently I add a 50 litre duffle when required for longer trips - the pain is I can't get to warm kit or waterproofs easily, no matter where I keep them as the duffle bag squashes down onto the OS bags....

@@steveh100 Yeah i know your pain. I live in an environment where I often need extra warm and waterproof kit. I predominantly use by 2 x 6 ltr Kriega bags mounted on the front crash bars ( the only reason I’ve got upper crash bars) for exactly this reason. Naturally if you haven’t got crash bars it prevents that extra bit of available storage space.
