In Finland we typically say Karelia when we mean the Finnish Karelia and East Karelia (or these days we might say Republic of Karelia, but part of it is Finnish Karelia) when we mean the Karelia that is in Russia and has never been part of Finland.

I assume it's because it's old news footage, and Swedish is our second official language. So the news would have been narrated in Finnish, and then subtitled in Swedish.

The author died in 1979 so if you go by the life of author + 70 years rule it is still technically protected by copyright law until 2049

i believe the song is about the continuation war, during 1941 to 1944 finland teamed up with Nazi germany and try to take back the land they lost during the winter war of 1939 where soviet invaded finland and forced finland to give up 10% of it's territory（including Karelia that was mentioned in the song), but suffered huge casualty during the process.

True, although Mannerheim also spoke Russian and German (there is a recording of him conversating with Hitler) and later, he learnt some Finnish too.

Yes it would be nice to get the land back that was in the hands of our ancestors for thousands of years but there is couple problems. 1. Over 200 000 Russians lives there. 2. Infrastructure from the 1930's. So my answer is no thank you :D

@@Bruh-jr2ep We Finnish Karelians are Finnish, too. If Finnish Karelians are not Finnish then Tavastians or Savonians aren't Finnish either. Finland and Finnish originally refer to a specific are and specific group of people on the Southwestern coast.
