As he never did hit the hammer on calling Nakamura a cheater, but on "worth investigation". Was it smart? dumb? idk, probably dumb, surely this would bring a lot of negative impact to Kramnik reputation, maybe he was willing to be "hated" just to bring more attention to the cheating problem. so facts, he is clearly mathematically illiterate, you can run the calculations for a problem like this with a high school level grasp of statistics

  • @danielshapiro2472
    @danielshapiro24726 ай бұрын

    The reality of this situation is that this has been a matter of *elementary school level* statistics from the beginning. I remember reading about a coin flip example when I was literally 9 years old at math camp. Essentially, if you have 100 coin flips, you are *overwhelmingly* likely to get at least one streak of 5-6 heads or tails in a row. The likelihood is so high in fact, you can confidently identify a fake set of data if there are not more than 3 in a row during the 100 flips. Applying this to Hikaru who plays 50k games a year, it would be unlikely for Hikaru NOT to get 46 wins in a row eventually. Let that sink in. Kramnik has less understanding of statistics than an elementary schooler. You do NOT need to be a statistician to understand this concept.

Add: - time control (3+0) - opponents (high winning chances due to elo differences) - dependent chances (multiple games against one opponent, those games can be grouped, are not independent due to tilt/psychology/style of play etc.) So basically the more statistics you know the more stupid/crazy Kramnik sounds lol

    Conceptually it’s not so hard, but mathematically this is actually a rather difficult problem. Kramnik's NOT a scumbag. He could have worded his thoughts far better than he did with his initial video statements, and have been far more diplomatic in expressing his thoughts. But I would not call him a scumbag. One thing he is, IS concerned about cheating in chess. He went overboard by insinuating Hikaru was cheating. He should not have said 'interesting'; he very clearly should have said I don't believe, nor do I think Hikaru was cheating, but any results like this I would hope would be looked at, especially among players who are obviously far less talented in these formats. In other words, he could have done it way better initially. Now? He needs to back up, or a label like scumbag might stick. 🙄

    As if Kramnik's lack of integrity wasn't obvious already, he can't even be honest about his accusation? He accused Nakamura of cheating. Period. Just because he didn't say the name Hikaru is a technicality with no merit. If you describe achievements that have only been accomolished by 1 person, then you indicated that person. If I say "I'm not a fan of the 45th president of the US," I am not naming a name, but I am identifying a specific person and making a statement about them. This is, objectively, a lie. It isn't a matter of him not saying Hikaru's name, he simply literally never said it was definitively cheating. From the beginning, he maintained that his point was that it warrants investigation. This is almost certainly because he was being cautious about defamation before he composed his first post. You can say ethically he really MEANT to accuse Hikaru, or that socially speaking, it amounted to the effects of an accusation, but he simply did not say the words, which is what will matter for any prosepective law suit.

    Hikaru doesn't really have a case. At least in the US, you have to show proof of losses/damages. Hikaru hasn't lost any sponsors or money due to these accusations. If anything, he's making more money than his average due to the videos he's making on the subject. That isn't to say that Kramnik isn't being an idiot. If anything, it proves how much of an idiot he's been since no one believes him. Essentially, Hikaru could take Kramnik to court just to stop Kramnik from talking about this, but A) he might not even win due to Kramnik's wording. B) He couldn't seek money in reparations, as he hasn't lost anything. Defamation is a serious pain to prove. Not impossible, as seen in the Depp v Heard case, but difficult.

  • @KNNY61

    @KNNY61

    You also forgot defamation has to show intent, quite often malicious intent. Hikaru has no case, and would not bother filing such unless Kramnik tries to include Hikaru in some lawsuit, which would be baseless. No, Hikaru will just keep streaming and playing chess. Kramnik may self-destruct, but Hikaru these days is way past that.

    I know during the Speed Chess Championship, there is a camera on the players face, a camera on their hands and their monitor, their monitor is screenshared, and i believe headphones aren't allowed and audio is monitored as well. In addition to that, there are all the other usual detection measures of analytics and algorithms. Beyond that, what could anyone do to "prove" to Kramnik that Nakamura didn't cheat? I'd like to hear Kramnik explain exactly what would satisfy him, because apparently anecdotal "evidence" of misunderstood statistics is enough to convince him the cheating occurred, but cameras, screensharing, audio, statistical analysis and algorithmic analysis shows he didn't, but that's not good enough? Or even anecdotally, he's not even the only one to have done it. I'd like Kramnik to "prove" that his workd championship wasn't politically driven and Kasparov didn't hand it over to him. That was alleged by many people at the time, and apparently allegations are all that are needed to require you to prove innocence.

  • @luka188

    @luka188

    The burden of proof is on the accuser, so, Kramnik needs to provide proof of cheating, rather than Hikaru needs to proof to Kramnik that he didn't cheat. Hikaru didn't cheat, until someone can provide real evidence, or extremely convincing arguments that are beyond reasonable doubt to proof that he cheated. I mean, even though it is quite reasonable to suspect that hans cheated to beat magnus, there is no way to proof it, so even hans cannot be fully accused of this, even though the probable cause is still very likely due to his past history of known and verified cheating, the verified and known cheating of his chess teacher, and how outlandish it is how he beat magnus, and how weak his arguments were when defending himself and his chess play, etc, etc.. In case with Hikaru, there is nothing at all. So, there is no reason to even suspect anything here, no probable cause even.

    I don't think he is cheating but this line of "evidence" is really bad. First he doesn't have to always be using an engine, second he is good enough that you/engine could show him a list of 5 moves and he would be able to explain any of them instantly or pick out a human enough move instantly and explain some of his thoughts around it, third he could just have an eval bar so he chooses and explains all the moves but just has a good idea if he needs to be a bit more careful based on evaluation. The whole "he explains everything, is a very good player that is quick on his feet, and super good at multitasking (looking at chat etc)" if anything would make cheating harder to detect as he has all the skills needed to do it in an essentially undetectable way. Of course just because he could cheat well doesn't mean he is and the stats and analysis suggest he isn't.
