5:05 Actually there's another way to get to the exfil point on the new DLC map besides climbing the ladder. However it's another route that you will have to climb in order to get to it.

Incidentally as Karl I’ve fallen twice from that climbing route straight down onto the dock - no death - just a sore ass and urgent need for a med pack!

I'll be buying it as soon as i get home on Thursday, your seal of approval on it, means that i think I'll have to create a new mix of weapons for all those confined corridors. I look forward to it!

Yes, escape the dock would of been epic! We haven’t had any escape exfils for se5. SE4 still reigns supreme

the carrier seems to be inspired by the historical german aircraft carrier "Graf Zeppelin". really awesome stuff, that!

I really enjoyed the Kraken Awakes....Seems huge, map wise...and tons of enemies...and finally a bunch of enemy snipers to deal with. Ive played it through a few times and keep trying new ways and working up to Authentic. I did find that if you shoot the cargo nets above the ship...the soldiers inside will come out and you can tag or shoot them and thin out the ship before going in. And yes I got lost in the ship MANY times.

Another excellent review as always. I definitely share your excitement about this new mission, which is a massive improvement on the last two DLCs. After the first afternoon playing the new mission I felt quite flat. Not disappointed but also not super excited. The lame ending was a big let down. I think we have to be honest and recognise that the storyline in SE5 has been crap from start to finish. However I have played this map a few more times on Authentic now, and it’s growing on me. I managed to complete the mission on one life on the third try but subsequently I was finding it really hard to achieve (Authentic only). I was starting in the alternative locations and running into problems with these sneaky spawning snipers, plus I was being invaded immediately. Anyway after another three or four goes, I did it again. And completing the mission on one life / Authentic +5 invaders felt really cool. This time no alarms and a body count of 155+3 unconscious. I’m pretty sure I cleared the map including the guy at the Lighthouse. What I have found is that there is a way to approach this mission using one of the alternative start locations that makes it a hugely enjoyable sniping exercise - you’re gonna snipe probably 75% of the NPCs and have some properly exciting sniper duels with the invader. And once you’ve done all of that sniping work (with short intervals of CQC) you have a hectic assault on the additional objectives with your SMG or ideally a scavenged MG42. Makes it additionally compelling if you get invaded during this last run to the finish line. So I’ve kind of changed my mind a bit. I’ve started playing this map with some invitee invader mates and it’s been cracking fun. Finally another map where you can confidently expect to be shooting at each other at a decent range. I was actually saying to my one mate that this mission would work really well in co-op versus two invaders. The level design and the ideal balance of sniping vs stealth vs CQC more than makes up for the overly familiar environment which uses heaps of assets that we’ve seen before in previous missions. It’s definitely harder! On several occasions I’ve been targetted and swarmed by Jaegers that seemed to be a lot smarter and ferocious than they were before, certainly in Conqueror and Rough Landing. And those sneaky spawning snipers are a really devious touch and add a whole new level of requisite awareness. Good stuff!

Completely agree with your comments on the ending (and the rest)... I had planned to blow up the aircraft carrier and then head off and kill the other officer, only to be greeted with the end cut scene. I know I should have realised that side missions are exactly that, but I just didn't think. If there had been an extraction stage I could have continued on regardless.

I appreciated the shout Kraken at the end with style of german angry 😁

Yeah no exfil was the main problem with it - getting the hell out in one piece is always a welcome thrill (liked as usual) But I reckon overal this is the best sniper elite DLC eevveerrrrrr

Best SE5 DLC*

I can’t get enough of this game.

I’ve played through this a few times starting from the different locations. I like the extra enemies, snipers and the almost constant vehicles . Stealth can be tricky with this one.

One thing I would Love to see in SE5 Is the SS-Jager-Battalion 502 Regiment Units, Or 'Valkyrie Jagers' As they're called in SE4 Deathstorm DLC make a return in this as well, and even as a Survival Mode Enemy too.

i can't believe that it's almost been a yr since this came out, I feel like the next SE will come out in 25, the 20th anniversary.

I had a chance to play through twice before you dropped this and I’ve got to say they did a pretty good job on the level this time, for a start it’s a night time mission so that’s always great and the flow was pretty good from objective to objective but there were a few areas that were just dead or under guarded. The check point at the beginning is fine but the dock entrance is way to convenient, 2 jägers 1 infantry and a guy on a spotlight isn’t enough and they need to make side entrances and sneaky ways in have more guards but have them slacking off so they’re easier to get by.

All I really want in the game now is the M1 garand rifle

Apart from the ending, the new mission is brilliant. If the rest of season pass 2 had been of the same quality, I wouldn't have minded paying more for this than the SE4 DLC. I like the Mauser too, with one minor complaint. Even if I modify it to reduce the fire rate, every time it triggers killcam it fires two shots, not one. Not ideal for conserving bullets, which means I have to turn killcam off if I want to use it. Never had the same problem with the scoped secondaries, as long as I don't squeeze the trigger too hard, and it's controllable when killcam isn't triggered. I'd have liked a select fire toggle (which I think the real gun has), for when I just want it for single headshots.

Love the new mission iv played it 7-10 times its my fav mission by far

Glad to see more historically accurate uniforms added, unfortunately it’s too little too late, I stopped gaming entirely 2 months ago

I bought season pass 1 and 2 but, if there's a season pass 3, I don't think i'll bother as I really only want the campaign levels. I don't play online and have no interest in the skins so if there's only going to be 2 campaign levels in season pass 3, I'll just buy the levels and save a few quid. Kraken Awakes was a good level but there were areas that you can't get to and I'm not a fan of that.

Between the Steam and Xbox versions of SE5 I've spent lots of money. Considering the 90 plus hours and still going time I've got in, been well worth it. Like this last mission even if it's alot like the previous ones.

Personally I would’ve been fine without dlc weapons and every dlc adding a new map and each new map tying more into the campaign lore and more fluid progression and it just feeling like a time skip to a new place. For example I’d love missions in a road map style which shows your how you got from point A (first mission) to point b (final mission) and shows you where you’ve been in between with missions or even mini missions. Maybe they could do this more with something like se6 (If we ever get it)

Just wanted some Solo Survival maps

Went through it 4 times already, yeah about 160 bad guys if you kill everyone on the map. Once on hard and 3 times on Authentic, I killed about 50 guys on each authentic run, stealth runs. Yes, best mission of the DLCs...

I'm so glad they allow a drum mag on the Mauser. The one from 4 sucked so bad I'm glad they finally allow enough rounds 😹😹😹

So the mission is named after a old Norwegian myth from Viking age.

The Mauser is only really good in loud configuration IMO. The Scope is pretty awkward on a full auto with that kind of fire rate and lack of recoil control versus something like the Sten that is relatively easy to control even when scoped in full auto. Your control method will obviously play a factor into how controllable the gun actually is though. In a loud configuration it removes some of that issues and can be used instead of an SMG to a degree as a close quarters weapon. It's nice for something like Survival if you're playing solo and might need the extra firepower for closer range. For campaign you're better off just taking something quieter in most cases. The 1911 is easier to control, is quieter and has the scope if you want it or you can take one of the quieter options if you don't mind iron sights, it's all a one shot kill headshot anyway. If you're opting to take it instead of an SMG, you may want to take the ERMA.36 in a quiet configuration for close range shots if you're not using the De Lisle Carbine which still feels like a 'cheat' gun to me all around. Decent scope options, works with breath hold and is quieter than most pistols.

Overall it was a great DLC mission and i enjoyed every one of them in both seasons, but we should mention the pricing. For little cosmetics and weapons (Up Close and Personal Weapon and Skin Pack) they charge 10,99 EUR. I think it's ridiculous.

When you want a fresh supply of Bottles, there's none to be found... lol It's a shame there wasn't as many Collectables as other missions, or there was and they just weren't hidden very well... A distinct lack of challenging things to do to unlock the new weapons upgrades. Authentic...? not as challenging as I thought..., or am I just good at it?

There's several bottle locations in the stage You can check your collectible list before the mission, there's a decent amount of things to collect. Not everybody cares about challenges to unlock gun parts, some even loathe them and just want to play with the weapons they paid for. The unlock challenges are more annoying than "challenging" anyway. Authentic isn't that hard and that's the issue. People are waiting for Authentic+

I got bored with SE5 a long time ago. Too easy to play even on authentic. And unoriginal challenges like having to place a satchel charge or turn a valve. Would like to see some more original thinking in terms of the challenges, like in Cod Ww2 or even SE 4 when you have to rescue that woman with the pendant. Imagine having to rescue someone and lead them to a safe part of the map without getting seen or shot, that would be awesome. But overall, I was pleased with the increased difficulty with this new map, with nowhere to run to escape the enemies on the ship. Credit where credit is due. However, SE4 still reigns supreme IMO. Also, would like to see authentic MEAN authentic, ie: you can get blown up by your own traps if you walk over them. That would add an extra layer of challenge to the game.

Rebellion is just "money grabbing" with these expensive and VERY LACKLUSTER season offerings. $40 for 2 seasons... 4 missions, a few skins, and a few guns. Kraken Awakens is great, BUT isn't enough to save this sinking ship. I'm out. Sniper Elite isn't the only game in town. The Sniper: Ghost Warrior series is EXCELLENT and set in modern day. Nothing like 1600+ meter shots with a .50 caliber Sniper rifle.

How can anyone say Sniper Elite 4 I'd better lol 5 is better in many ways then one

@@ad3mn A.I is insane. More constant re spawning in the campaign. Played the 3rd level for over 3 hrs on hard and they just kept on coming so the maps dont feel so empty like in 5. Also...Cant blow up the tanks with a gun. The mechanics are a little different but having played 5 a lot I never really got the hang of the wild factor (sniping without the asset on is a whole different game here) .Haven't tried the multiplayer, but the campaign is really good.

@@ad3mn More care and time went into it - or at least, was evident in the final product. SE5 has features that were clearly unfinished or cut, and is still buggy. Level design is generally far better in SE4 than in SE5, which focused too much on 'realism', and the Italian landscape in SE4 looks beautiful and unique. There's also nice small touches, such as getting to fight alongside partisans on two levels. Gunplay IS a little better in SE5 (no fp view for secondaries in SE4), but most importantly, sniping is actually challenging in SE4. And while the AI in Sniper Elite has always had some issues, I can say that I've played the Campaign Missions in SE4 multiple times, and it's always felt different each time.

I really, really don't understand this continual complaint that the game is too easy! Authentic is brutal with German soldiers coming out of the woodwork by the dozen! I love the Authentic mode and I've played all but this one with no saves. This mission is, for me at least, almost impossible to do with no saves in Authentic mode. I've yet to beat it with no saves on one level below Authentic. I can't imagine how it can be beaten silently, or with no kills except the head man! You are playing a game I am not! If you really think it's easy try Authentic with all loud weapons. Ten minutes max before death!

Sniper Elite 5 is by far the easiest Sniper Elite yet. Sniper Elite 3 and 4 were much tougher, i miss the old Authentic difficulties.
