I think people don‘t understand how HUGE they still are in Korea. Actually a lot of SM artist are way more famous in Korea then we realize here overseas. Because we for example would compare Spotify Stream Numbers, but they also have other streaming platforms in Korea. Anyhow they broke and set up many records, they paved the way for many artists, I mean they are literally the Idols of other Idols we know cherish haha

It literally topped charts worldwide and I feel like we need to give it (and Psy obviously) way more credit for introducing Kpop into international media

@@lonemoonsswordapprentice9024 why can’t it be both? Who’s to say that a breakthrough can’t also be a cultural reset? Because yes, it was a breakthrough; but it also affected different cultures all around the world. Asian culture (more specifically Korean) was launched into the limelight of foreign audiences, and it’s held its grip ever since. So I agree that it was a breakthrough, but it was also a cultural reset.

this compilation is kind of arbitrary imho. there are some striking examples of actual trend-setting that were ignored. as you mentioned "danger" was a game changer in many ways, since taemin was the first major male artist in SM entertainment emerging as solo artist from a group while staying in the group. it was pretty huge back then and he was successful on top of that. and "everybody" was at least as impactful as "sherlock" for SHINee and "dream girl" was there most successful title song. so there's that.

Bigbangs bang bang, Superjuniors Sorry sorry, BTS Run and Fire, Got7 Just right and stop stop it, and Exos love shot. I mean like most non kpop fans know this. I not even into kpop yet (when i was much younger) and know all this classics. My brother even used to know got7 stop stop it, just right and bts Boy in luv, dance even not being a fan. I was so heavenly influenced by my cousin and brother by this songs that i great full i got to kpop PS lmao I used to watch rookies kings with my older cousin I couldn’t even understand anything cause subtitles were fan. but i could understand something. I was amaze by V visuals before. I also ask my brother before was song was boy in luv and i said why is love spelled like that. also in 2018 i got my brother what song was just right before cause I last heard it when i was 7-8. Walked away from my phone and returned to all this nostalgia. Feeling old today, but grooving all the same. So much thanks to KPOP for changing my life. I'm a 28 year old mom of 3 now, but KPOP came into my life at an age when I needed it most. All of this is the soundtrack of some of my favorite memories. I learned a lot about myself as KPOP continued and continues to evolve. I never imagined 2021 in 2009, but here we are, with a special place in a hearts for the music that made us all dance.

SHinees' replay and DBSK's Dhusite.. were my fav and I kept on playing them again and again.. I couldn't understand a single word but its just the melody I fell in love with.. And looking at kpop now.. with illegal streamings, chart manipulations, toxic fandoms.. it is heart breaking Cheers to Good old golden days.. now no can set any kpop trend.. those days are gone..

For newer KPop stans who might wonder why SHINee is here, it's because their entire songs are literally a cultural reset. Aside from trying new concepts, they are also not afraid to take risks when it comes to genres thus creating their own unique sound. 'Experimental' and 'Trendsetter' are what they were known off.
