Hear me out: the Kpop store that I buy from lets people donate albums with missing inclusions and puts them in a free bin so other Kpop fans that like the album for things other than the photo cards can enjoy them. Every time I’ve been in the store, there are fans who are overjoyed to see free items/albums from their favorite group. I think more stores should do this so at least someone can have the albums instead of everything going to the trash.

Hearing this about Seventeen breaks my heart. I've been a fan for about 7 years now and watching their growth has been slow, but very rewarding to see as a fan. I remember when having 200,000 - 300,000 album sales was a massive improvement for them. I'd hate for people to think their records/achievements are fraudulent because they've worked so hard the past few years and it finally seems that they're getting the recognition they deserve. Personally, I think having more than three versions of an album is too many. I buy one version of each album. I'm Canadian, so I'm happy to get just one. I only buy physical copies of albums I genuinely love. It hurts to see all of those albums in the trash. I can't help but think about fans all over the world who aren't even able to get the album in the first place.

I saw a person with a bts photo card. I was coming around the corner and I saw the person running to the music selection. I was in the book selection. Then, I heard the person unwrapping the bts proof album because the person wanted to change the photocard. I walked out the book selection and I came into the music selection. The person was gone the next minute. The BTS Proof album was fully open and the wrapping paper was next to the album. I found the person's photocard in front of the album.

I remember joining a weverse of a group and they had a comeback. I expected to see the community gush about it and celebrate but it was sooo vile. So many posts saying “why hasn’t (group) already hit this number when (other group) did? Clearly no one is trying hard enough” and “how can you call yourself a fan when we’re not already at this number??” It reminded me of my former step dad who would grill me about my grades and art, the language was downright abusive. I understand the desire to help your group succeed but I honestly did not get into Kpop for a rat race. I just want to enjoy good music from good artists and maybe buy an album if I really want to. I actually want music show wins to stop being a thing and everyone just performed for the sake of promoting and entertaining. Making everything into a reward system or numbers game is just manifesting these hyper competitive and aggressive attitudes.

I want to remind people that Seventeen has 13 members. So no they do not have 18 different versions of an album. Just like every other kpop group they have 3 versions of the regular album, a kihno album and a carat version album which is similar to other groups’ digipack albums which is usually a special version of the album that features each member. Also for this carat version, instead of including a photobook it instead includes special pcs of the specific member which amounts to about 26(?) cards for each carat version. So saying Seventeen has 18 albums and 900 pcs is such a loose unfair statement without explaining in details. It sounds a lot but Seventeen has double the members most groups have which accounts for the amount of albums and pcs. Ofcourse there is a problem with mass buying but definitely not for the majority of fans especially not to the extent of discrediting both Seventeen and carat’s hard work. Seventeen has had comebacks with more album versions but never had sales like this? Why ? Because their success has steadily grown over the years and their sales are genuine! Kinda annoying that some people here hate on Seventeen when all they say everytime is not to buy everything their company sells. Also, Minghao told this on WeVerse (or Weibo idk) that they can just print the photocards. Minghao statement: kzread.infoG_ZSdWFwfN0?feature=share This happened for the first time for Seventeen since transferring to HYBE, and the physical albums they put out for SVT is an OVERKILL. They don't deserve the hate because they worked too freaking hard for the longest time. It's just that there are carats who are so irresponsible. Now they're putting SVT down with their carelessness.

Ok what those fans have done is really bad. But saying that seventeen records are scam is really disrespectful to seventeen. I mean they are not successful just on their album sales ,they have worked hard for years. And not all fans buy albums for photocards or for fansign events, many carats buy the albums for seventeen because their songs are bop. And this case is not something happening for the first time. It's just that this channel interpret everything in a wrong way and deliberately try to attack some groups. He/she just make any topic offensive and insulting to the group.. I saw a video of another k tuber which really showed how gross this channel is. Like he/she made at least 5-6 videos on moonbin until now At this point I am thinking that the creator is making a big fuss out of this issue because he/she just don't want to accept seventeen's success or for views....

This is some thing that I personally never understood when it came to try and get the sales up for your favorite groups. As someone who grew up with a grandparent and an aunt who likes collecting vinyls, and then I ended up liking to collect vinyls, and then that turned from minus the K-pop albums and limited-edition vinyls that some groups come out with it. Kind of irritating pisses me off how often people will bulk by albums, knowing that they don’t actually want the album. Not only that, but then they just waste them like at least do something with them even if it’s just genuinely finding people that you know what the album but couldn’t buy it and giving it to them for free. I don’t think I’ve ever book bought Albums but I’ve definitely gotten like several copies of the same album because K-pop albums are the go to for lots of my family members and friends when it comes to buying me presents or gifts and if I don’t give the albums that I get actual way because I don’t need them and I don’t collect the photo cards I just like collecting the actual physical albums. Then if I can’t find anyone to give them till then I actually use the album for things there are several albums that I have where I’ve basically taken the Pictures out of it completely really worked the cover because they were luckily hardcover albums, and I was either able to use them as mini binders by adding jump rings to them or if they were basically a box use them as a little storage box for other memorabilia or arts and craft things. I’ve also taking the photos out of those albums, and I’ve made collages with them. I’ve turned them into mini posters some would’ve given to other family members and friends that I know like K-pop groups but don’t necessarily like having a Albums. I have a lamination machine so sometimes I’ll just make a collage laminated and then hanging up in my room because it’s small and it’s cute and I can put it in a picture frame or I can put it on my wall and it’s not as overbearing us having one of those giant ass posters hanging up somewhere. Like if you are going to buy that many albums, even though you shouldn’t irregardless of you trying to help break records for your favorite Elise do things with them. He’s a good creative and start making crafts and things that you’re going to use or maybe other people are using or give them away don’t just like buy them to help them break record and then just throw them in the street or donate some to places that clearly aren’t there to have a Albums still need it it’s the weirdest thing ever. Also, if you collect photo cards, then you don’t have to buy a bunch of albums by like one album or maybe two and then go online. There’s so many websites from Instagram to Etsy to like straight up websites that you nothing but trade and sell photo cards and then buy or trade for the photo cards that you actually want. It’s the same if you’re like a freaking Pokémon car trader you don’t always go out and buy like 1500 billion decks because you know for a fact that there’s always going to be repeats that you don’t need you by a couple of them and then you go ahead and you trade or sell for the ones that you want. Like the car trading has been around forever from baseball cards to Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon and that’s not even counting the 7 million other card games that have existed throughout time including magic like there’s ways to collect photo cards without having to sit there and buy 50 million albums. And it’s even easier to do it nowadays it was back in like the early 2000s late 90s because we have the Internet and you can ask people a lot quicker.

I’ve got a little bit of extra income to buy them and share with students most of whom can’t afford to buy just one. It's because of fansigns in Korea, you need hundreds of albums to get into a popular sign and in-person fansigns are back after 3 years of being gone. All boy groups in Korea have this problem. They just take the cards out so they can get back a little of their money. I can post photos of NCT, BTS, Stray Kids, Wanna one, etc albums in the trash too because this has been going on for over a decade. A girl bought 500 EXO albums back in the day and didn't get into the fansign. People only pretend to be outraged now because Seventeen broke a record. This literally happens every time a major boy group (and even some girl groups) have a comeback. It mostly happens in Korea. In other countries you can give the album away for free even without cards because it's expensive to import, so someone will want it.

I can’t imagine how Seventeen felt about their albums being dumpstered around everywhere. These people are fans, shouldn’t they know how much work went into not only the music in the CDs but the photoshoots, the theming, the concept? This is Seventeen we’re talking about, and as a Carat you should know how much they care about their work. I can’t think of any reason why a fan would do that, instead of for example distributing it to fans who can’t afford the albums or selling it as second-hand to record shops or something, except that they’re immature and ungrateful. It’s careless on so many levels: it’s careless for the environment, it’s careless for the public space you’re dumping all this in, it’s careless for the artist’s work you’re supposedly supporting. If you _are_ going to buy in bulk, at least have the respect for the labor of your idol and the money you’re spending on it.

As someone who is currently collecting photocards... when I buy multiple albums and versions... if I get a duplicate album(version), I hand it off to one of my ARMY buddies who can't afford to purchase the albums. There is a benefit of being a mature fan who has a job and can afford to do so. Many of the fans I've met are Highschoolers and really can't afford to spend that amount of funds on multiple albums. Some of the albums can range above $40/ea. I felt good about doing so instead of throwing the albums away. That just seems wasteful. Give it to someone who will enjoy the music if all you want are the photocards.

(Personally I can never relate to these kind of people cause to me kpop or any kpop groups are my favorites foremost because of their music and songs. If I had my own money I would be so happy to buy my favorite artist's album cause it's a part of their music and a symbol of their music.)

If he or she is a true fan they could have a common carat fans as their friends and they could easily distribute it to them but no they throw it away in a garbage to all to see. I think haters bought it to throw it away so that they feel they are insulting the artists. Its just my thoughts.

It great that albums are being sold. I love that kpop is going to be global. But when people just want a photocard or just even to meet their favorite artist (and sometimes do not get the chance to), and when some companies do not get noticed (because they are from a small company)…sort of confuses me and pains me. I get the craziness and fandom…but what is the limit to these “albums” and all the other perks that can be detrimental to the planet???

I'm not saying this isnt an issue, but this was conveniently used as an excuse when seventeen's name started popping up everywhere, by certain fandoms. It would be nice if it was addressed as a general issue that needs to be taken into consideration, and not just to invalidate seventeen's growth. Its so annoying seeing those albums go to waste when people struggle to purchase 1 album due to the high shipping prices. Let's be honest, those million albums do mean a lot. Its money after all. Hybe is simply doing its marketing and people are buying into it.

as a media designer it hurts my heart so much... working hard for weeks, every minor detail is done on purpose, dozens and dozens of drafts, gosh even the many hours we spend on finding the right typefaces/fonts... i wish people would care a little bit more about the work the people around the kpop idols do. we only see a few faces and hear a few voices but the whole production is so much more... i feel sorry for the artists and designers. i look up to them, they are doing an amazing job. thank you for pointing that out. also regarding albums: i still have to understand the purpose of mini albums or different releases when it is still the same 4 songs... i had to think of that time to twice episode where they had to guess the name of the album by its cover and the 9 girls struggled so hard to get them right because they have like 4893724 mini albums (which was kinda funny tho)

Also, I must say I’m surprised that it took so long for a company to even try to do fan signs digitally in the first place. I don’t understand why they correlate it so hard with a Albums when instead if they wanna make money off of it, have it be tied to fandom‘s. So many fans have official fandom‘s where you have to literally pay monthly to be a part of the fandom and you like get a bunch of gear and stuff to show that your own official part of the fandom and it comes with perks like you can get into buying tickets earlier, etc. whatever and I don’t know why they don’t just have that title fan signs. Like my aunt is part of the TxT fandom, she genuinely likes the music she does like to buy their albums. She likes o’clock them etc. and we were lucky enough to actually be able to get tickets to the concert here in the states because of her being an actual part of the fandom a.k.a. an official Moa member, and having Fanclub membership and getting early access to buying tickets before the general public. It honestly wouldn’t be that hard to also have that tied into fan calls. It’s not like companies. Don’t sit there and have paid for content that they try to keep behind the walls for fans and are willing to shell out the money, including texting apps like bubble, so I never understood why they don’t use that to their advantage in terms of trying to market for fan science because they would have so many more people instead of wasting money because they don’t want an actual 20 copies of an album will instead have that money to spend to join official fan clubs, and then be chosen through there to do Fan meets, etc. Heck it would even be smarter for the use it with like actual official merch. Like it wouldn’t be hard to have merchandise specifically for official fan club members that they sell and if you buy that merchandise and it being stuff that’s like actual use for whether it’s decorations for the light sticks folders, binders actual cute pieces of clothing like sweaters and T-shirts that don’t look like they just have them printed down the street fans would actually sit there pay money for that to get into fancies, but then also get something useful out of it, but they or someone they know can actually get use out of it.

I cannot be the only one who thinks this has nothing to do with setting records and everything to do with the fact that kpop labels are a business and their goal is to make money... I doubt the members of seventeen even had much of a say in this decision. Any economist would probably tell you South Korea is best described as a "hyper-capitalist" country, to me it makes perfect sense that these companies would try to increase profits in any way they can get away with, and then justify it by saying they have a "fiduciary responsibility" to their shareholders lol
