Kotex Kenya Denies Involvement in Karen Nyamu's Free Tampons Donation Initiative - BNN

Karen Nyamu recently announced her initiative to donate free tampons to young girls in slums, following her controversial "I used tampons" remark when questioned about her support for the Finance Bill 2024, which proposed taxing sanitary towels. In her announcement, Karen Nyamu mentioned collaborating with Kotex Kenya. However, many people criticized her idea due to several risks. Tampons are more expensive than sanitary towels, making them less effective in addressing period poverty. They also require high levels of hygiene, which can be challenging to maintain, especially with limited access to water. Improper use of tampons could lead to infections, affecting fertility or even resulting in severe health issues. Additionally, tampons have a shorter usage span compared to sanitary towels. In response, netizens threatened to boycott Kotex Kenya. Subsequently, Kotex Kenya denied any involvement with Karen Nyamu's initiative. In retaliation, the nominated senator called the company "chickens" and remained steadfast in her commitment to theproject. Many women expressed dissatisfaction with Karen Nyamu, perceiving her stance as ignorant. #karennyamu #bnn
