I had to come back to this to pay respects for Pat. Dude opened up my eyes to the battlerap scene. This was the very first battle I've watched and I was hooked. The way Pat controlled the crowd. The way his punchlines landed. The smoothness of his flows and deliveries. The way he could flip Diz's lines on him. Pat is a fucking legend and the news of his death is beyond heartbreaking.

I became disconnected with battle rap as life has gone on, but I always come back to this one. Two of my favourite battle rappers of all time, in their prime. Pat was debatably the best in English spoken battle rap. The fact I'm writing 'was' and not 'is', is so disheartening to say the least. R.I.P the Sucka Free Boss and battle rap's goat.

Diz is versatile as fuck. The shit he spits is on some other level that most emcees don't even touch. His wordplay and metaphors are nasty, and his freestyle ability makes him dangerous. His only drawback is his delivery. He crams too much shit into one round and to do it he spits his bars really fast, which is fine when you watch it at home and can let all the nice shit he's saying sink in, but I imagine he gets slept on alot live because people have a hard time keeping up with every thing coming out of his mouth.

Diz's schemes are SO complex and fast-paced it increases the risk of stumbles if distracted. Most battlers don't suffer this. If Diz is in the zone, there is no battler in the game that can touch him. Period.

I watched it again today being over critical of dizaster and he stumbled in the first and third but some of the judges gave Pat the second... This was a testament to how well rounded Pat was! Did the long rounds which is Diz thing and what Diz wanted and Diz stumbled and had some slips and Pat was pretty flawless. Adding to that not only was he clean three rounds Diz really only barred out aggressively and fast flowed. Pat was flawless while mixing aggression bars swag and comedy! RIP to the best to ever do it when he was in his zone and one of the best most creative well rounded writers ever to rap!

Dizasters triplets in the 2nd round that flowed from the beginning till the "sip that thru a straw" line ended it, was one of my favorite runs ever. I still see this as a draw, both got off great material, great battle all around.

Such a classic battle! Pat will forever be remembered. 🙏🏾💯

Being real honest here, Dizaster had more complex lines but Pat had more clever & funny bars and his flow is just off the charts. Probably in the top 5 best flow of battle rappers.

I am a huge fan of Pat Stay. He is a quality battle rapper, with a great sense of humor, and knows how to play up his appeal to the crowd... But with that said, Nobody, and I mean NOBODY can match Dizaster's masterfully intricate word schemes, technical lyrical complexity, and genuine knowledge of the english language in rap battling. It was a close one, but Dizaster should've won.

It's all about balance to much of one thing, & you lack at another. To me it's ab checking all the boxes. And while Diz masters everything you said, he misses a lot of other checkmarks because of it. Kind of like a 1 trick pony, you gotta have swag, that's what made pac and big so good.imo.

RIP Pat Stay 👑 This is the first underground rap battle i ever watched on KZread back in the day. I still come back and rewatch it to this day to relive the amazing performances from both of these legends

For Dizaster fans: WHY DIZ LOST *Disclaimer; I'm a die-hard Diz fan Diz's Attributes -> Negatives 1. Hero/Villian-> Diz continually prides himself on the anti-hero, villain position in any battle which makes his opponents, who are self proclaimed 'villains' but have honest intentions, crumble in his presence: i.e. the anti-hero, Deadpool. Pat's overall persona is of righteousness and confidence which defeats the antagonist every time: i.e. Wolverine 2. Crowd reaction-> Diz gains all momentum from the belief of the crowd and their trusting and backing in his demoralizarion of his opponent. In this battle, the hero position was clearly held by Pat even from Diz who seemed to be a bit intimidated and in awe of Pat and that, in turn, weakens Diz's confidence. 3.Preconcieved Decisions-> With Pat being the title holder and the poster boy for KOTD, there is a lot of momentum and sponsorship riding on him winning this battle. With the possibility of their being ghostwritten bars for Pat(which is common among top tier battlers just as top tier music artist), he has the automatic leverage from the KOTD staff and overall fan base. His background trumps Dizasters and causes fans to subconsciously back him with him being from Nova Scotia and Diz being from L.A. but claiming Toronto. 4. Offense/Defense-> Diz was no doubt, not in attack mode in the battle. His ego was weak and his comebacks more so reinforced Pat's general dominance, making Pat's defense that much more stronger. Dizaster's attack patterns usually consist of the unravelling and deconstruction of an opponent's universe but here we see Diz in a mindstate that is threatened by the integrity of Pat's presence. Dizaster feeds off the negative emotion of his opponent. As you can see, Pat gave no reaction to Diz except through rebuttles which mostly remained on point and added heavy shock value. 5.Style in Lyricism-> It is commonly agreed that Diz has a higher vocab and infrastructure of syllables, wordplay and nuances in his delivery, not to mention an outstandingly animated performance, but in this battle he severely lacked in style and cadence. Interestingly enough, if you observe Pat's performance it almost mirrors Dizaster's motif exactly. He degrades Diz's background, culture and even his stage performance. Overall, he uses the subtle techniques of Diz's stage performance to sway the crowd and integrates them into his own style. But Diz still had more bars. So, Diz lost due to lack of confidence, lack of support, fanboy antics and lack of entertainment and style, all of which he rides on plus all of which unconditionally belong to Pat. Class clown loses to the jock. Diz even made the comparison in this battle of him and Pat being Ip Man to Bruce Lee which is fair. Diz has a raw, tougher style which is technically almost impossible to beat but Pat used that style in a more simple way to gain the people's hearts. So Ip Man vs. Bruce Lee? Legend vs. Symbol? When you subtract the skill of technicality and get right down to public opinion, crowd favorites always win.

I just enjoy watching disaster in any battle cause you can see how much effort he puts into this like it’s really his life. Face sweating & I notice the small things like when he had to redo his verse in round one I knew that took mad energy out of him.

THIS is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Pat Stay is literally one of the most, at BEST, average battle MC's I've ever heard. Dizaster destroyed this guy EVERY round, without any question. Pat's best lines were barely on par with Dizasters worst. I'm not even a big Dizaster fan but I have to admit this couldn't have been a more lopsided victory for Diz. I've watched battle rappin' since International P was hosting Fight Klub and have seen plenty of top notch battle rappers. Pat Stay is not good. He's not even alright. If this battle was held anywhere but Canada he would have lost by a landslide. KOTD get's absolutely ZERO respect.

And even on the off chance he actually said that, and meant it, he was probably being more critical of himself because he slipped up a little. The only way you could argue Stay was better is if you were going strictly off of who recited their lines without mistake and not off the actually context of those lines.

Dizaster has more lyrical content but it's how he delivers it that has the crowd under reacting. Pat throws a little of everything just pay attention how he goes from jokes to bars, that's his signature cycle.

Yo, when diz freaks out about the punch line getting interrupted, in his first round. “you were leading us on” is way better than “Caesar Milan” part of the lyricism…

The problem is "you were leading us on" should have been the end of the punch and "Caeser Milon" should have been its own separate punch. The crowd reacted to both. If the crowd erupts then the punch is over whether it was meant to be or not, diz ruined his own first round because of it.

Sorry but this was a toss up. Rd.1 - debatable Rd.2 - Diz Rd.3 - Pat They were both funny & dope. Diz novaskosa pride line was hilarious. Pat had a whole bunch of funny shit, his pubic hair computer chair was hilarious. I didn't expect Pat to be so dope. I thought he was gonna be just funny. But either battler could have won this. Very entertaining battle.

I am normally disappointed in Diz's battles for most of 2013, but he actually was snappin this battle. He had some stumbles which made his material not as polished compared to Pat Stay, but Diz was very DIRECT this battle and you can tell he wrote for this battle.

Diz's hiccups cost him this battle, lyrically he won by a landslide. Pat Stay was clean af tho, but Diz still shudve won, sum of the shit he spit was unbelievable.
