They deserve it, Kotaku called for boycotts themselves on multiple occasions. If they got theirway the whole game industrie would be jobless by now. Bayonetta developpers would have no jobs becouse of a crazy voice actress. Activision-Blizzard would be non existend by now becouse of some bad people working at the company. Everyone that used a Harry Potter license Kotaku wanted to be canceled. Now those people from Kotaku have time to reflect on their past actions.

You really have no idea what you're talking about, the AU had nothing to do with the toxic US team, at all. The owners in Australia, the Pedestrian Group, just licensed the brand. The AU team were a great group of people, some of which I knew personally, that cared deeply about the local industry in Australia. They didn't deserve this.

That's what has to be done when its Woketaku. They don't really hire writers or journalists, they hire these weird woke bloggers that just seem to constantly write these pieces about how everything is racist, everything is sexist. This is the same company that had articles like how terrible TLOU II was because you had to kill dogs and couldn't instead befriend them or pet them.

This is why people wanna see Kotaku fail... they never accept the criticism to potentially self-reflect and improve, they double and tripledown and will complain about the hate they receive all the time in things that have nothing to do with it... even in fucking game reviews

Nothing of importance was lost

Although it was founded by the original, Kotaku Australia actually was owned by a different company at the time of their demise. The were purchased in 2018 and probably licensed the name from that point onward. (Kind of like Toys R Us Canada, which never went out of business, is now a separate company from what remains of the original Toys R Us.)

Never go full mercante is valuable wisdom

I'm Australian and totally forgot Kotaku AU was still a thing. Oh and Holden died years ago, after the death of the Commodore their death was an eventuality and they shut their doors at the start of 2020.

VERY well spoken, and full of truth. I think the reason a lot of games journalists hate KZreadrs is that YT has made them obsolete. When writing, your personality doesn't usually matter that much. Because people are only reading your words. On YT, you need to have a personality. You need to have a presence. Just having the words isn't enough. And, when writing, you don't HAVE to deal with the backlash from people, whereas on YT, the buck stops at YOU, so YOU get ALL the comments, good AND bad. And that's why they hate us. Because they KNOW they don't HAVE the personality OR the thick skin to actively BE a KZreadr. They also probably feel like, if they DID start a channel, they should be entitled to 1 million subs and instant major income. They don't think they should have to build a brand and build a following the way others do. I've been making content steadily for the last 3 years. And I just now have gotten over 700 subscribers. I'm not anywhere NEAR being monetized yet. But I still put out the videos because I have the passion and I have fun doing them. And yeah, it's a slog. Yeah, there's a lot of effort you have to put in. But the fact that I'm ABLE to do so, that being an entertainer is no longer something that is closed to me...THAT makes it all worth it.

"Don't go full Mercante." Don't go full Frosk either. Those two are prime examples of how NOT to act when being criticized.

I read Kotaku in 2006. It used to be really good, and gave IGN a run for their money. Then Brian Crecente left and the site became the Kotaku everyone loves today 🙃

I am an Aussie, Kotaku Au was owned by a completely different company and it was that company that decided to close Kotaku Au. There were some great people there and it really helped having a local Australian news outlet. We don't have a lot of Aussie only gaming news so it is sad for us to lose one.

Sorry, man, but I shed no tears for anything Kotaku. Seeing the editor-in-chief's tweet, I say they truly got what they deserve.

The reason why there's a AU version of Kotaku is so they can report on the Australian side of the gaming industry that the US branch of Kotaku wouldn't bother or even know to report. So no, it's not to do with language. But with that said, even if they're gone, we have Press-Start and other sites to fall back on, so not a massive loss (except for those who worked at Kotaku and other partner sites)

The worst mentality in the world: I had it rough/I worked really hard so I automatically deserve better and everyone else should have it just as rough as me and should work just as hard as me, no one is allowed to have it easy. Sites under the G/O media banner have been a mess for quite some time, internal issues with the site owner and the various writers & editors is practically their brand at this point. Them also attacking the fandoms/enthusiasts is a surefire way to cause the sites traffic to hemorrhage (Kotaku & Jalopnik being repeat offenders in that case).
