At first Jonas disobeyed God.. Instead of going to Nineveh.. he went to the opposite direction... he boarded a ship.. God sent a violent storm that almost wrecked the ship.. He said to the captain..Throw me to the sea... and this storm will calm.. down... the big fish swallow Jonas.. For three days and three nights Jonas was inside the fishs belly..He was delivered on the beach of Nineveh...

That footage of Sen. Santiago crying and grieving for her son is one of the most heartbreaking things i ever saw. I would understand why she lost her faith. i am also going through loss and sickness now and is now undergoing through something similar. i just keep fighting but is plagued with so many questions.

Alexander Robert Defensor Santiago died because he had a failing grade in Constitutional Law (a law subject in which Miriam is an expert-author) in Ateneo Law, prior to that Alexander failed the UP Law interview for the panel were questioning the state of sanity of MDS & the cockfight gambling of his father, in which he was not able to address. Ateneo was his second choice, yet he failed a subject her mother is an expert. Alex was bullied by the people who are either jealous or opposite of MDS's political ideology or political platform.

I got the impression that Miriam was pretty lenient with her children because she didn't like how she was raised by a perfectionist mother who demanded that they all excel in every single thing they did. I remember an interview where Miriam said she always told her husband (who was the disciplinarian according to her) to let their children be because was there anything more important than being happy? She said that that was the one thing to aspire to--not to be successful, but to be happy.

Nag-aral sya sa Ateneo at dun sya bumagsak sa isang subject, ayon kay jhunzio. People shouldn't be defined by the schools they attended. It's the character that matters most regardless of academic background. When we see righteous and responsible non religious politicians like her, we can say there is still hope for Philippines. Sad to say looking at the comment section, Filipinos deeply rooted to their archaic beliefs still exist.

How i wish we still have her now

Really heartbreaking...

This woman is funny, smart and forthright with her opinions. She hold no punches and speaks her mind out. I believe that she is the person the country needs as its leader. She is not a politician. She is a woman with conviction and she stand by her words. Her honesty in this interview is very refreshing and she is the kind of a leader that will achieve great things for the country.

I think na-misunderstood ng marami si SMDS. If we listen with open mind, she is just presenting basic theology here but never a point she admitted to being an atheist, not that atheism is bad. I mean, many people miss the part that Freedom of Religious belief is one of the main pillars of the so called Democracy. Now, let us make a dare, IF YOU CONDEMN ANYTHING OR ANYBODY RELATED OR CONNECTED TO ATHEISM WHATSOEVER, THEN DON'T USE ANYTHING RELATED OR CONNECTED TO MICROSOFT. Seems like you're doing good deeds for the wrong reasons. So di ka papatay kasi sabi ng Diyos wag pumatay? Kung walang Diyos papatay ka na lang ba? Ganun ka na lang magwawala? Para malaman mo, ang slavery sinusuportahan ng Bible pero people stopped buying slaves kasi napag-isip-isip nilang di dapat binebenta ang tao. It was an act of morality done despite the Bible saying you can have slaves. Morality exists even without God

she is just stating her opinion upon god, apparently i have the same thoughts due to the curiosity of the human mind. on her case, she lost his son declining her faith in the aftermath, a mom who lost a son/daughter is hard, i dont get it why this is a ruckus and decided not to vote her. Philippines is not a straight catholic/Christian country. even though we have a minority of other religions such as moslem, hinduism and such. the people here will be like christianity superior religion

Miriam: There's no proof that God exists, and there's no proof that God does not exists. This is actually covered in Theology. First you deduce or deconstruct the existince of God. You lists all possible reasons why there's no God. Then after that, you'll try to reconstruct the existince of God, and lists all the possible reasons why there's God. And surprisingly, you'll realized that there's more reason to believe that there's God after all, but your typical concepts and perceptions of Him will definitely change. Like Miriam said, God is not like an old man with white robe and roaming around the universe. God is something else, an ominpotent being or force, we can never understand it because it's beyond the human intelligence or senses. Because if u can understand the nature of God then, he's not God afterall. That's why we have so many religions fighting about their concept of God. Theology is an interisting subject.

I am Agnostic. I believe I am here in this world to pursue my own life's happiness and that I should pursue it not at the expense of other people's own happiness. To live life to the fullest while being mindful of not trampling into other people's beliefs. If you choose to believe in a deity (or not) in order for you to do the same, then so be it. It's your own choice of personal enlightenment after all. So as long as its for the betterment of mankind then why should I contest?

I think miriam mentioned this kind of her concept of beliefs because of too much grief and loss of hopes. let's admit it, we sometimes came to that point of our lives in which 'kasalanan lahat ng diyos' at 'walang diyos' ang iniisip. But when miriam realized that after her son's death, God still saved her for a lot of times and still showed her love pagkatapos niyang ideny ang Diyos, she turned her beliefs... That was the grieving miriam. Miriam now is different from then.

I just rewatched this interview after many years. It has dawn on me as a human being when we are affected by a lost of our love one our peeception does alter our own reality. Such as the case with Miriam. Even as an intellect as she claimed to be she is contradictory to her own thoughts and words. Logic does not prevail when we are stricken in grief as she was. BTW it also does not help that the setting is from the exact person who ask the same questions from the very subject last spoken about.

just finished reading The Stranger and Myth of Sisyphus by Camus a while back, and I find the great senator echoing his absurdist philosophy. the Philippine government needs more people like her.

Our society is not yet that open minded to accept atheism, the fact that some people in our community thought atheism can lead to decrease of morale, but it's sad for me to see that some people(really) make their religion as the foundation of their morality. It's flawed and pathetically inconsistent; I'm looking forward to a community where science is treated as a fact and not just an opinion.

Actually, the last parts of this interview is already in Ecclesiastes. :)

Her faith actually changed later on... It was during this time that she lost her faith to God because of her son's death. She now turns back into believing in God.

Yes, whats surprising to me, is her RATIONALE. Namatay ang anak, and she questions her decision to STUDY HARD. As brilliant as she is, parang she never gave herself a chance to EXAMINE HER LIFE. The only thing she learned from her son's suicide is because some people don't like her?? ANO YAN?? PERSECUTION COMPLEX?? I just based this stmt. sa mga sinabi nya. We need to EXAMINE OUR LIFE ON A REGULAR BASIS. Granting for arguments sake that her son was SHAMED. Ang hina naman ng THRESHOLD ng anak nya. She herself said HE WAS A DEAN LISTER.
