The cars are made to break up in a lot of pieces to lessen the energy of the car so it's not transmitted to the driver. The cars used in most forms of racing today are incredibly safe.

Actually the reason these cars break up is because their aerodynamic structure is simply fragile (and they have been fragile well before the sport had any kind of shock absorption concept, you can see that in 70s crashes). The big safety improvement has been in strengthening and upping the coverage of the crash cell around the driver, which is a relatively small part of the car, and also in improving the driver's restraints and safety equipment (notably adding HANS, better helmets, better anti-fire clothes). In the 80s, Piquet used to say the top-tier cars were death traps exactly because of how fragile their lightweight carbon fiber monocoques were in comparison with other components.

As an F1 fan, it's interesting to see people's reaction to the sport. We are accustomed to technology, speed and safety, but these are new to them. However that Grosjean's scene still bring me tears. F1 did some races in Korea between 2010 and 2013. But maybe doesn't generate much hype in the country.

Combination of the debt, money mismanagement (lots of greased palms), lack of planning/preparation (very little in the way of facilities for the first race and didn't improve much over the next 3), lack of racing fans (Koreans are not really car people) and the location... In Korea, for most people, anything over 2 hours is a LONG drive. So, putting the track over 4 hours away from Seoul and Busan really limited the number of people who'd be willing to go. Even with them giving away tickets and the government forcing big businesses to buy tickets, they couldn't fill seats. I know of people who were forced to buy tickets and didn't even bother going. I was there 3 of the 4 years (missed one to being out of country) and I never paid for any of the tickets... I had seats right at turn one the second year... Disappointed that they canceled but not at all surprised. They still use the track now for local races and the odd international event but it largely sits unused...

The movie "Rush" is one of my favorite sports movies. It's about the Austrian Formula 1 racer Niki Lauda. He was the best of the best, and during a huge tournament, there was a big rain storm at a track known to be very dangerous. He knew the odds of an accident occurring were high, and so he opted to cancel the race. The other races voted in favor of racing anyways, and he didn't want to be the only one sitting out, so he raced too. At that very race, he got into an accident that very nearly cost him his life. He had burns all over his body and face, and even had scar tissue inside his throat and lungs. He was in the hospital for a long while, but as soon as he was able, he went right back to racing. Honestly, it's such an amazing story, and the movie is so well done.

The tracks closer to Seoul attract larger audiences, but even with free races at the former F1 track down here in Yeongam, they can't put butts in seats. Even with local events, it's almost always the same groups of people in attendance. And they're usually in two categories. They go because they have a friend/family member who races or is a member of a race team OR they go because it's a free event with other activities for the kids and the race is an afterthought. Racing/car culture is growing here, but it's still a very niche market.

0:45 that's wrong info there, the winner doesn't get knighthood, no, there are only 4 drivers in F1 history who got knighted, Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Stirling Moss, and of course Sir Lewis Hamilton, they got knighted not because they simply won the championship, no, it's beyond that, they got knighted for their outstanding achievements for the sport and other reasons, 1:17 oh it was supposed to be slow, it was after the safety car being pulled out, oh and 4:21 Ken Miles didn't die because of the fire, he got launched out of the car when the crash happened and it killed him instantly

Since 2018, the FIA has made a regulation that is to add HALO made from carbon fiber to every car in order to reduce the risk, in 2022 the FIA made a regulation on every car. The funniest thing is that if you touch the rear wing even a little bit , you will lose $ 50,000 because it involves the air system, so don't ever touch it, HAHAHAHAH.if you want race in f1, the cost without sponsor is like $1MILLION - $4MILLION DOLLARS!!

Context of F1 . There some lines called racing line which practically is to be followed so that it's like a quick way amongst all other options. So yes they have to drive in a single line close behind each other because every thing , every second matters . 2. Cars are extremely agile and lightweight(some weight like a single entire wheel of rolls Royce etc) . They are constructed by a whole separate team of engineers and scientists etc with F1 rules and regulations in mind . Even the smallest part of the F1 car cost like couple of millions dollars . 3. Sponsor are there for the financial part only . All other things are controlled by the company racing team( pit crew , engineers etc) dedicated to this type of sports . 4. Cars reach upto 300 mph + sometimes in straight which is good , but since it pressures the extremely precise engine , drivers don't usually push the car to the extreme. That's why tracks have so much curves , so that engine damage or wear and tear can be reduced and at the same time agility and acceleration can be tested rather than top speed . 5. These cars are customed made , so that even if there's a crash the driver cabin is in one piece but all other carbon fiber parts disintegrate so as to spread the impact and reduce the damage effect to the driver . 6. Whenever there's a crash , safety car and virtual safety cars are deployed so that the situation can be controlled . Unless the safety team green lights the race is paused . If the damages is drastic , the session gets cancelled .

WRC videos would be fun as they are on roads Koreans would be familiar with in cars they may know going at insane speeds (imagine going between trees at over 180kph). Or BTCC which is probably one of the most contact of non-contact motorsports 🤣 Or road racing (Isle of Man TT, Northwest 200, Skerries 100). Probably the most lethal motorsport (most, if not every, year someone dies at Isle of Man). Again with roads Koreans would be familiar with at speeds in excess of 300kph

The biggest crashes I've watched live are Mark Webber and Heikki Kovalainen at the 2010 European Grand Prix, the Romain Grosjean Big crashes where when he hit the barrier, his car exploded, at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix! Plus the Alonso/Gutierrez crash at the 2016 Australia Grand Prix, the Robert Kubica crash at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix, the 2018 and the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix start, the 2014 start crash between Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen, to name some of them. the most stressful Grand Prix I've watched was the 2014 Japan Grand Prix when Jules Bianchi hydroplaned and then hit the machine that was towing Adrian Sutil's Sauber, which had spun one lap, before with an equivalent force of 254G. The F1 was just showing an ambulance on the crash site, until a KZread video showing the horrible fatal crash of Jules Bianchi during the Typhoon Phanfone.

5:22 F1 cars have the driver in a capsule. The rest of the car is designed to dissipate energy around that capsule in a crash. The loop over the driver and the cables tethering the wheels to the car are to stop wheels from hitting drivers in the head. There is also a roll bar to protect the drivers, a HANS device and the enclosed cockpit to stop the drivers necks from breaking during impacts and fireproof suits. There are sooooo many safety devices on these cars now, unfortunately all these improvements in safety are usually because of previous crashes, a lot of them were fatal. Especially back in the 70’s when speed was everything and safety was less than an afterthought with drivers of the time usually sitting between a fuel tank and a glowing hot engine.
