I’ve never been IN a school shooting but we’ve had lockdowns and I’ve had to send that message to my mom you don’t know if it will be your last just “I love you” most American school children can probably relate to that feeling seeing as we watched so many PSA’s and it happened way too often.

It’s fascinating to me how they didn’t realize the Back To School Essentials was about a school shooting until they were told at the end… Whereas every single American probably figured it out as soon as we saw the kid running through the hallway… I hope one day Americans can expect schools to be places of peace, not mass shootings

  • @DimityPockets

Honestly, I completely agree with this. Im actually an American graduate of homeschooling (former public schooler), and even I recognized that it was a shooting as the kid began to run down the hall. Personally, I’ve only ever experienced a shooting while going to get pizza with my family. It wasn’t targeted towards civilians though, our guess was that it was two rival gangs. My big brother and I huddled behind a car wheel while my dad tossed my little brother over us and then flattened himself to shield us as the shots rang out overhead. Around 15 minutes after the first shots were fired, we were inside eating pizza as if nothing had happened. It’s certainly a scary reality over here, even for homeschoolers.

We have a communal school for specialized class courses, like agriculture and graphic design. My graphic design glass is at the front of the school, and the doors and walls are glass. There would be no escaping, even if you were in the back behind all the other tables and computers, because the only door to another room nearby is at the front of the room. And it's super easy to just get in if you can fake an id, they don't even have pictures on them

as someone who grew up in america and went to highschool during the peak of shootings, can confirm we watched these PSAs and had shooter drills as often as fire drills. the fire drills were congruent with shooter drills (dont leave classrooms if the fire alarm goes off until the office makes an announcement to over loud speakers. this way, a shooter couldnt pull the drill to gather everyone in one place). i was legitimately worried about there being a shooting at my school before i graduated. luckily covid took that fear away since school moved online for the last bit of my highschool edit: someone corrected my "pique to peak" but i cant find their comment. fixed it, thanks! i write a lot of these comments a little high so forgive any grammar or spelling errors i may make lol, i try my best. that one usually irks me so im disappointed in myself for missing it

There was one time in the beginning of my sophomore year, there was a kid walking with his hoodie up and earbuds in, he couldnt hear the person trying to talk to him, he was in the color guard so he had one of those fake gun things on him and someone thought he was going to shoot up the school so they reported it and the whole school went into lockdown for a good hour to two hours. Most terrifying part of my HS experience, until a teacher saw it was someone in the color guard then everyone started making memes about it.

This year my senior year of high school we had a lot of times where we went on a lockdown and luckily it was just some kid spreading a lie. They said there was an active shooter at a nearby shopping center, so they said we are on a secure perimeter, they kept updating us until they officially said it was a lock down and they weren’t joking. But my special Ed teachers one of the most understanding and caring people I know, continued to have us work I was terrified I remember that awful moment of having to text my mom “I love you” before telling her what was going on. Earlier in the year there was a stupid stunt someone pulled by blowing up a toilet (literally) with pure sodium (I think that’s the chemical (?) they used) so it exploded with contact of water. The next day the BEGINNING of the day there was a bomb threat and I had a sub that day and you know what she did? She left I don’t know where she went but she left us there. They didn’t tell us it was a bomb but they said to “start the evacuation procedures we will all meet up at the baseball field” a lot of us not understanding but afraid and some who speculated it was a bomb threat since that’s also way to common here. Anyway I remember going out and being terrified, hugging my friend we didn’t have a teacher, we had to follow the class in front of us. Sitting in that field texting my parents seeing the news helicopter go over, it was awful. The incident with the “shooter” happened really soon after that.

When I was in my last year of high school in 2016, my school went into lockdown for about an hour and a half. None of us knew what was going on, I just remember my teacher told us we had to stop what we were doing, turn the lights off, lock the door, and hide in the corners of the room where we would not be visible from the window on the door. It took us until halfway through the lockdown for us to figure out someone had brought a loaded gun with a kill list onto campus and police were searching for him. There were police everywhere when we were finally allowed out and I remember my mom was in a panic when I texted her what was going on. Weirdly enough, nobody among us seemed very scared. Our school always got shooting and bomb threats, and lockdowns happened all the time because of gang activity, so we weren't worried about anything since we didn't hear any actual shots fired. Luckily the kid got caught without firing a shot. It never ended up on the news, so all I know is apparently he accidentally exposed his plans early and that's why he didn't get a chance to actually shoot anyone before the school reacted. It was a weird experience and probably the closest I'd ever gotten to actually being in an active school shooting.

I had a lock out in elementary school and a lockdown in high school. The lockdown was because of a body found on campus (no crime was discovered so I guess someone just died on campus?). But the lock out in elementary was because of a bomb threat. Someone said they put a bomb in our school and we basically just had outdoor class that day while police stood around the parking lot. I’m sure the building was searched as well but I don’t remember seeing anyone but normal cops.

They are used overseas by liberal political organizations to drum up funding for left wing groups so they can try and help eliminate God given rights of American citizens. They are insulting, tropes, and liberal caricatures that do not exist. The real problem is the left wing in America removed our ability to lock up criminally insane. instead they shove pills down their throats, call them cured, then send them home. Eventually they stop taking the pills, snap, and go on killing sprees with guns, knives, swords, acid, bombs, etc. The problem is we must start locking away the criminally insane again....

These PSA's are INSANE, glad y'all showed these to them they really are disturbing but pretty necessary! This year we had a lot of crazy stuff happen at my school- we had a lockout for about 2-3 hours because there was a shooting outside (people actually saw it happening, and there were a lot of cops), one of the bad guys (I heard this from the cop that works at our school) accidently cut off his finger, left the scene to the hospital, then the doctors had to go back and pick up his finger off the street, afterwards he went to jail! And then a little bit afterwards we actually went through this program called Every 15 Minutes (it's about drunk driving)- if you don't know what that is they basically do this thing where they find students and teachers and they have them sign something so then they are the "dead" people either they are just ghosts wondering around the school and during that time Grim Reapers go around the school collecting them and they leave the class (if you are dead you can not talk to ANYONE no texting no nothing, you also can't do your work either and they will have you stay at a hotel/motel for a night or two)- or they have people in the "accident" and one of the people actually went into a helicopter to the hospital while others who were in the accident got to go into a hearse. They made a little movie of it but it's not the greatest because they really liked playing music like one minute it's a sad Billie Eilish song the next it's a Taylor Swift song (forgot the name of it), but yeah it was very interesting and crazy if you guys want to show them that as well!

It really sunk in when we realized we all had an escape route for each floor just in case. 2018 was such a horrible year, there was shooting twice a week it seemed. we had so many active shooter drills and my mom wanted to know where I was 24/7 which wasn't like her. The feeling doesn't go away even now that I'm in my third year of college.

As a new mom this scares the crap out of me. In America there seems to be an excessive amount of shootings. Things happen all over the world, all different things, but just because it happens doesn't mean it's ok. I remember when I used to go to school, these were things that were practically unheard of & now they have to teach young children about shooters & have a more active plan if something like that happens. Makes me horrified to send my baby to school when he's old enough. It's always a risk being a parent, & life is always unpredictable, but the point is, if people honestly got their act together that wouldn't necessarily be an issue. Dare to dream a perfect world, right? Is it achievable? Yeah, but not with the attitudes here, that's for sure. 😒😔

As a graduate of homeschooling who had started out in public school, I would love to encourage you to consider homeschooling. The risks are substantially lowered, your child can work at his or her own pace, and you can tailor your child’s curriculum based on your child’s needs. Personally, I’m dyslexic with ADHD. The public school system couldn’t (or rather wouldn’t) educate me in a positive way due to not being able to provide tailored assistance aside from putting me in a special needs class. Once I was pulled out by my mom and enrolled into a co-op, my education, social life, and general quality of life improved. I really can’t recommend homeschooling enough to new parents, especially this day and age. It’s a big and slightly scary jump, but it really is worth it.

@@laneyshab The amount of guns circulating in america combined with society's perception of guns, means that citizens will always have an easier time acessing guns in america regardless of if they suddenly become illegal or not. This stems from the idea of never giving government full control of its citizens. History has repeatedly shown what happens when a government with all of the power consolidated to the few becomes corrupt. The sentiment of not trusting government is a very valid point because of corruption and changing leading representitives. But this obviously comes at a cost. The best solution for now is to push states to introduce policies that decrease gun violence through highly trained armed security, anti bullying policies, mental health help, and restricitions on a person when it comes to their mental health. If you can't win, you have to compromise. If you want to solve the issues, you can't just parade around someone else's argument. Think for yourself because politicians don't care about actually solving the problem. They act like the issue is black and white, when in reality, there is a lot of gray area.

I remember all of us being huddled in the back the the class under a long table in rows. The teacher was sitting there screaming at us about how if we were loud we could die and all this other stuff that has meshed together in my brain. I remember my best friend was in front of me and I was hugging her because she was shaking and there was a girl nearby hyperventilating because her little brother was in a different class on the other side of campus. Classmates were seriously sitting there planning who they would use as shields, escape routes, jumping out of windows, possible weapons. Then the administration came knocking on doors to let us know it was over but we didn't know that because all of us were convinced there was an actual shooter at school. By this point half of us were crying. Sure, it wasn't real but it was still traumatizing and the fact that we even have to have these drills at such a young age is mortifying. I was 8.

Watching them all figure out what was happening was so sad. Watching them all work through like why doesn’t it stop, and then they start to understand that it’s about addiction.😓 Addiction truly is a monster

8:27 Yeah a lot of people start when they’re in high school. Especially since if you’re going to have mental health problems, a lot of times they start to crop up in preteen/teen years, and if you have no or little support....people turn to drugs. I was injecting heroin at sixteen myself and had been partying at that point since 14. Ugh I still can’t believe I was that young, doing things that crazy,

the one about the school shooting really hits hard because a week abgo while i was in 4th period a school in one county over was shot up it was pary highschool and that boy killed a 6th grader. and all that happed while we were all having fun talking to each other we only knew cuzz someone had thier phone out and after that the school went silent. no body should go through the loss that family did, or worry if your school might go through the same thing.

Sadly most these PSAs came out after high school for me. So I never saw them. I grew up with more drug PSA's in the 90s/2000s since that was largely the concern. Don't get me wrong, school shootings were a concern, but not as large as the drug PSA's. Even those PSA's were damn scary...

these are the type of reaction videos I want to see instead of "how do you feel about this race" and stuff like that. this is real life situations we deal with here in america and we are not a country to be insanely idolized. there are so many problems happening here now and the politicians are too focused on blaming it on each other instead of trying to solve anything. a lot of the younger generation here are discussing these topics on tiktok and other social media platforms and some even trying to leave america in general.

It’s been proven that shock tactics don’t work. The problem is when kids gets older and realise that they’ve been lied to about the effects of drugs they then don’t believe anything and think it’s all a lie.

  • @Catherine.Dorian.

Not really. Kids used to grow up with the ad “this is your brain on drugs” and the cracked egg and it worked. But instead they drank and drove. Todays kids grew up on the drunk driving ads and most would never drink and drive but they didn’t get the drug ads. But really they should just show video from Portland and LA and the strung out addicts lying on the sidewalks or attacking cars, that should do it.

according to the most trusted research organization on the planet ur wrong ): its been proven PSAs work. they just werent as effective in the early days bc they didnt actually put effort into targeting kids accurately & so they were easily mocked. not bc kids rebeled against being lied to / shock.

@@leesamia4624 it can work but I find honesty is the best policy. Where do you draw the line? Many drugs are helpful like paracetamol, many legal medicines can still be addictive and harmful if overused. Alcohol and tobacco cause the most deaths but are legal. Many countries are legalising weed and appears to have benefits to the sick but can impact your mental health. Ecstasy is very illegal in most countries but hardly causes any deaths. Many people try or take some of the more dangerous drugs like cocaine and LCD without doing too much harm (although the risks are high)- some even get benefits from micro dosing. It’s more ‘drugs are bad and will kill you’ that the intelligent will reject. It needs to be a balanced look in context, not just some junkies dying in the street.
