You are right. The mask in the beginning belong to the woman he really wanted to see the actual face behind that mask. She acted as an inspiration for him.

The girl was his imagination, he saw the mask fall off from the cliff so he was kind of wanting to see the actual face behind the mask Ever since he was little he always tried to reach the top, failed a million times, but this time he was able to succeed because of that girl ( he was imagining)

Everytime I watch this video, it reminds me of Mowgli's skill (Jungle Book). FYI, Mowgli is based on a child who was found in India's Kanha National Park who was raised in the jungle by wolves situated in Madhya Pradesh (situated in centre of India) during British rule, written by Rudyard Kipling in 1894
