Myeongdong is usually just for tourists. Dongdaemun has a better night market, Namdaemun market is really good for traditional Korean food, and Hyewha has food stalls that are much cheaper than Myeongdong. Trust me! I live here ;)

May I ask for your advice, where would be the best place to eat and also have fun on Monday night? would Namdaemun better or Dongdaemun better or Hyewha better? I only stop by Seoul for one night, so I hope to be able to go to one good place. I like night market, and I Love Korean Food.

Hyewha is nice because it's not touristy and it's kind of a college town because a lot of universities are there. There are a lot of theater shows, although most of them are in Korean. Dongdaemun has a good night market but it can be very crowded, even on a Monday. Hongdae is a good area to have fun, but there are lots of college students. I like the stop before Hongdae, Hapjeong, better.

Revina Que it's starting to become a thing in the US as well. Not ice cream in particular, but I know of candy shops that are famous for embarassing their customers and there are restaurants that have the shtick of being outrageously rude to customers...To these I say, "who asked for this??"

Definitely want the Strawberry mochi, that looked amazing! I've been craving mochi the last few days. And the savory pancake thing with bonito flakes looked like a variation of Okonomiyaki without the mayonnaise. I bet that Taiyaki would have been delicious with only half the amount of ice cream and honey.

Myeondong is so touristy most Koreans don't go there. I've never seen Takoyaki or Daifuku sold as street food outside of Myeongdong. Maybe in a food court in a mall, but not on the streets. I guess in Myeongdong they sell Japanese food because there are a lot of Japanese tourists? But that makes me wonder - what's the point of going to another country if you're going to eat your own country's food?

This is an awesome channel, man! I love it! One suggestion though.... it would be cool if you had someone with you like a friend who spoke the language of the country you're at, whether it be Japan or Korea.... and show interaction with the local people, speaking their language and explaining about the food in the language, I mean just like brief encounters at a food stall or restaurant and have your friend explaining what they said to him...... I think that would make it really engaging with the culture and people......

There's a brunch type place in Myeongdong hiding in a tight spot. Only one person works there, and it's the size of a six tatami room. My family and I (5 people) each order some hefty food (I had waffles), and she cooked and served us in less then 30 minutes from a small kitchen half-hidden in the back. It was some of the best food I had in Seoul. She was magic, and I'll never forget her.

Japan and Korean share a lot of cuisine together. The fish waffle cone you got is "taiyaki" from Japan, it is festival food. The fish flakes on the pancake is the bonito flakes and I think they brushed okonomiyaki(Japanese "pancake") sauce. Korea of course added all their own flair to the Japanese stuff :p, Korean spice is next level. If you moved to Seoul you would be in Heaven XD.

So if anyone was wondering that thin "onion" thing in the pancake he was talking about thats fish is actually bonito flake which is dried fish flakes japanese people use it in their cooking especially in soups with dashi kombu (kelp) which you can find the two mixed in hondashi which is a powdered kind of bullion

The egg and sweet bread is called 계란 빵 (gyeran bbang), and as you said it is definitely one of the best street foods to try. Used to buy it everyday outside where I used to live.

Ahhh~ love these videos so much~ I'm pretty surprised with how they served that savory pancake dish (looks like a play on okonomiyaki), I thought it was takoyaki with the bonito flakes on top > Not to be rude, just bit of prodding out of curiosity, but does anyone know who travels with Mike on these, I don't mind the girl's name but I assume she's quite close to Mike? Cx

Next time you go to Seoul you should check out Itaewon Dong and Yongsan Gu/Dong. I know you don't drink but you'll have fun watching people drink soju slushes. Thanks for a trip down memory lane. I was stationed in Seoul '96-'97 and loved the food. I still buy kimchi but my wife makes me keep it in the garage fridge. This video helped me take a little trip down memory lane. Thanks for sharing!
