Most underrated rapper of all time. RAKIM, KANE, AND G-RAP are the GOATS. They changed the way everybody spit on a massive scale. If you under 45 years old, and not from NY or the tri state area, and wasnt a fan of hip hop during that era, as much as you think you know, you will NEVER understand. Theses dudes birthed "modern" rap. There was a before these three and after these three. Will somebody surpass them, probably, but we still live on the strength of how they changed what we expect out of lyricism.

Kool G Rap is THEE blueprint for some of the grimey 90's best NY emcees... From the complex, multisyllabic rhyme schemes to the mafioso imagery, fly baller talk and slick af sex/gun bars, he set a stylistic standard, beginning in the mid to late 80's, that many of the greats happily paid homage and to this very can also go bar for bar, with ANYONE, from any ERA!! #GOAT

I never understood when people made the argument that Tupac wasnt a lyricist when he never had a bad line. So many rappers, even the most lyrical rappers, had bad lines that were cringe and considered bad, but they ignore it. People claim DMX was lyrical and he has the lowest vocabulary of all time if u compare him to the popular known rappers according to a study made by Matt Daniels. The weird shit bout people saying DMX is lyrical and Pac wasnt is that DMX used a similar flow and delivery like Pac and dats really confusing. People say Biggie was so much lyrical than Pac but what made Biggie great was his flow rather than his lyrics, Big's ability to ride a beat like a saxophone was unique in hip hop and his lyrics became almost secondary. Also, people say Ice Cube and Scarface were lyricist, but they were similar to Tupac because they had simplistic flows, were storytellers, and had content/message. Ice Cube and Scarface werent rappers dat used a lot of wordplay, using different syllables, having metaphors/punchlines compared to other rappers, they were straight-forward rappers just like Pac. People have this weird obsession to not give Pac credit, whats wrong wit saying Tupac was lyrical? I respect Kool G Rap's opinion on Tupac not being lyrical, but it gets tiring when people say the same shit about Pac, it seems like an agenda. Look up the lyrics Tupac has, it has so many shit hes talking whether its religion, making peace among thugs and the community, trying to make business in the hood and passing money to the next generation, etc. Pac's lyrics are deeper than what people think and people dont dig deep, they just go by popular opinion and its tiring hearing people say the same diatribe.

This interview hits close to home a bit. I was part of the Illstreet Records street team for G'Raps 'Roots of Evil' album. Illstreet Records is family to me to this day. Lots and lots of awesome memories. All that aside, I believe that the difference between 2Pac & Biggie is the same difference between an MC & a Rapper, 2Pac was a rapper, a street minister, poet, teacher & a revolutionary activist... Biggie was an entertainer first and foremost... and a legendary one at that. Tupac had some extraordinary lyrical skills but the messages were almost always front and center in his music.

I like this interview. they were really analyzing what went on and when the paradigm shift took place. There was suddenly a moment where now everyone wants the rappers to live out every lyric. I like how they explored the reasons for it.

It's a pleasure hearing so many foundation stories. He took it back to before million dollar deals multimillion dollar images. Unfortunately that's what people are nowadays they are a brand not a person, not a real story. They used to be a program that said that they were 8 million stories in the naked city G Rap took us back to that kind of beauty and grit.
