    Thanks for watching. First, if you can, let your papers air dry. I don't dry my papers in the oven anymore. Watch other videos about Kool Aid dying because there are sooooo many ways to do it. My video was made in 2018. So many new ways to dye paper. Good luck with your adventures. I want to add one more thought. I ironed my papers because I wanted them to glue things on them. Crinkled is lovely but I wanted flat. Have a great time!!

    I am the kind of person who leaps before I look most of the time so that explains the directions on the packets. I suggest if you use the Kool Aid not to put baking powder or baking soda in the water. Stuff stains just fine without it. Because I live in Texas and dye paper year 'round I don't use the oven anymore. I bought a retractable clothline and put it in my studio and hang my papers on the clothesline. The ceiling fan is always on so I don't use any extra power drying my papers and they are dried in about 20-30 minutes. I am too impatient for letting them dry overnight on the cookie sheets. Hope this helps!

    Oh I am NOT telling him he is cool. lol! I will never live that down. The baking soda trick for silver has been around for many years. My mom used to do that. She hated polishing her good silverware for holidays. Some one is another post said something that I think answered my question in the video about the white powdery stuff I had on the sheet pans all the time. They mentioned pre-sweetened KoolAid. I am wondering how if that is the stuff that was left over and not the baking soda. Could have been a combo of the two things. I have plans to do another video and see what happens. I wish I could have too! It was just mixing the water and Kool aid in a small cookie sheet and baking it on another in the oven. I don't dry dyed paper in the oven anymore. I dry some papers with doilies or molds flat on a cookie sheet overnight. That way the pattern has time to set. Sometimes I do just plain paper dying on the sheet pans too. My most favorite way is my retractable clothes line in my studio. I use basic clothes pins to hang the wet papers up and they are usually dry in the morning. In the summer when my ceiling fan is going full tilt, it takes thirty minutes or so to dry. The process is extremely beginner friendly.

  • @MessyTableStudio

    @MessyTableStudio

    3 жыл бұрын

    Oh I am glad that worked for you. Just be sure that you don't wash the lace too much or eventually it will cause a lot of the color to wash out. If you are using the lace for journals or for embellishments that will never be washed, hopefully it will take a long time for the colors to fade. If you want a more permanent way to dye buy some Ph Martin India Ink dyes. They can be washed and should last longer. They also have a better variety of colors. Good luck with your dying adventures. It is so much fun!

    I loved your Koolaid dying tutorial and am going to try my hand at this. I think using the Koolaid cherry flavor sounds fabulous! I love the smells of cherry pie baking, but this would be significantly better on the waistline! Knowing my luck, it would probably make me so hungry I would end up eating the paper! LOL! By the way, I also love your sense of humor! Thanks for the tutorial! Kathy

    First, I am sorry for your loss. I have been married for 41 years and don't know what I would do without the old boy. My father died after my parents had been married 43 years and I truly do not know how on earth my mother carried on as long as she did. I laugh every day at all the dumb things I do, and how in the end they aren't half bad! It certainly shocks me. If we lived closer we might get into all kinds of trouble. Keep in touch!

    I usually dye my papers and stack up the pans they are in and get to them when I can. A friend recommended buying a retractable clothes line for my art room. I stretch it out like I hanging clothes to dry. They spend the night on the line and the next morning they are good to go. It is a slow process but doesn't take much effort on my part. In the summer months I dye a ton of paper. The ceiling fan does the work for me.

    gloria Eike Gloria, I baked my papers at 250 degrees and took them out when they were mostly dried. I dry them in the oven because I don't have a lot of space to hang papers in the studio. Plus I am impatient and want to see them done. If you hang dry them, you will not have extra crispy papers like I did. There is a video on KZread that talks about the baking soda. I probably should have watched the whole thing before I started. Lol! Dye some papers. It is so interesting how they turn out so differently. Thanks for watching.

  • @MessyTableStudio

    Daisy, I was disappointed in the yellow so I did add food color to "beef" up the color. I have not done strictly food dyes but others have and they turn out very nicely. I might have to do a video on that in the future. I think that if you want vivid color I would do with food dyes first. Kool Aid does pastel looking color depending on the ratio of water and mix you use. Good luck with the dying. It turns out so differently every time!

    Thanks, I have no idea where that comes from. I still have some of the paper from when I did this video. The only paper that I can remember that smelled, was the cherry paper that I over cooked a little bit. I remember thinking it smelled like a baking cherry pie. Nearly two years later there is a very, very faint smell of the cherry flavor. They do not really smell like the flavors other than that. I had hoped they would smell like the flavor but for the most part they don't. It was disappointing for me because making a book with those smells would have been neat.

    Thilda Hanna Thilda, I did not measure the water. I think it might have been about a cup to a cup and a half of water. I just eye balled it. I had a good time but standing around the oven for three hours is tiring. You have to stay right there and check on the paper because it will catch on fire if you leave it too long. Give one packet a try to see if you like it.

    The white filmy stuff comes off the paper I believe like lint maybe? Paper does have rag/cloth component...that is where the pound weight figures in I think. I had three reams of cheap Office Depot copy paper left over from my home office days of legal consulting so i spent like 5 bucks on some pans and a few more on Kool-aid. ....it was fun! If i had to go out and buy some i would go 28 lb. BTW I dont have a working stove just a toaster oven...let the stacks in the pans dry in a sunny window. Popped them in toaster oven at 270 for a few munutes till they started getting toasty dry and it only took a few minutes and i could sit in a chair lol! I dont have patience to do one sheet at a time roflol!

    I cheated with mine when I coffee dyed them. I used my heat gun. I didn't want anymore burned edges. I also used a sponge brush and those Dollar Tree sheet pans. I stacked them staggered and let them dry overnight. If they weren't dry all the way, they got blow dried. Sometimes I took more coffee and dripped it on the dried papers to give them more layers of interest. I didn't consider the lint from lesser quality paper to be an issue.I have upped the quality of my paper from a year ago, but am happy I had the other stuff to play with.

    Messy Table Studio that filmy stuff paper residue washes right off with no problem. I stick my stack of slightly damp papers in toaster oven in less than 5 minutes they all dry and crispy but not burnt. after about 1 minute i can take off the top and bottom cuz they crispy. i guess since it it smaller dries faster...might look for a toaster oven at estate yard sale or thrift store....no sore back lol!

    Wonderful, Vickie!!! I hope you have a taffeta skirt to wear! I love the sound! I love every color - even the pop-tarts! Have you ever tried dying with avocado peels and pits? The skins make pink; the pits more yellow. I combined them and got a pinky peach. I've collected more cleaned out peels and pits in the freezer for another batch. I ended up wadding up the paper, dumping them into the hot dye water and then putting them on towels for a while. Then I ironed them! LOL! I had to buy a new iron because my old one died! Did you use hot water? It seems to be what makes a more intense color. I know my avocado water was weaker as it cooled so I nuked it a bit and it got richer again. That stuff is - put your pits/and or peels into a pot, fill with water and boil/simmer for an hour. Heavenly! Oh, and I think this is a great length. I have a much harder time watching long videos, ie live-reruns, when I'm not in chat. Shorter bits with a bit of a different emphasis holds my attention much better!
