A couple of months ago I decided to go on one of the most challenging trails and mountain in the Balkans - Koncheto ( "The small horse"). This is a knife-edge ridge in the Pirin Mountains in Bulgaria, at an elevation of approximately 2,810 metres. Before installing metal poles and ropes, hikers went through Koncheto by saddling the ridge edge like a horse and slowly advancing, hence its name.
