Kollur Mookambika Devi Temple: Drive for one and half hours from Murdeswar to reach Kollur. During our Kollur-Gokarna trip on September 10, 2021, after visiting Jog falls and Murdeswar , we directly went to Kollur. Situated around 412 kms from Bangalore, 145 kms from Shivamoga, 68 kms from Mududeswar (one and half hour drive).
Kollur Mookambika Temple is located at Kollur in Udupi District in the region of Tulunadu and in the state of Karnataka, It is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Mother Goddess known as Mookambika Devi. It is situated in the foothills of Kodachadri hills, on the southern bank of Souparnika River. Being situated in the land between Gokarna and Kanyakumari, believed to be created by sage Parashurama. The main deity of the temple is a swayambhu (self-born) jyotirlinga with a golden line dividing it into half, in which the left half represents Tridevis " MahaKali", Maha lakshmi" and Maha Saraswathi", and the right half represents Trimurtis. Along with this, a four-handed panchaloha idol of Goddess Mookambika is also installed. Goddess Mookambika is said to be the name given to Goddess Parvati after she killed the demon Mookasura (also known as Kaumasura).
Shri Shankaracharya's Peetha is on the western side of the Sactum Sanctorum of the Temple. Even today the worshiping ritual is being continued as per the Vijayagama system formulated by Adi Shankaracharya
Everyday morning at 5.00 am "Nirmalya Pooja" takes place and during that time the Devotees have an opportunity to see the Swayambhoo Lingam.
The Temple is undertaking major social works. Many Highschools and Pre-University Colleges are maintained by the Temple around Kollur. Good lodges and Parks are set up for the benefit and comforts of the Devotees visiting the Temple.
Souparnika River or Sowparnika nadi is a river flowing through Kundapur taluk in Karnataka, India. It joins with the Varahi River, Kedaka River, Chakra River, and Kubja River known as Panchagangavali river and merges into the Arabian Sea. It flows near Mookambika temple, Kollur hence sometimes known as Kolluru nadi and is considered holy river by devotees of the temple.
It is believed that Garuda (eagle) called Suparna performed penance on the banks of the river and attained salvation thus the name become Souparnika. It is also believed that the river absorbs the elements of 64 different medicinal plants and roots as it flows, therefore it cures diseases of those who bath in it.

Mookambika is an important temple for Keralites.Because the idea is that the four Ambikas are guarding the four boundaries of Kerala One of them is the concept that Mookambika Mookambika protects the northern side of Kerala. Also Mukambika is one of the 108 Shivalayams in cultural Kerala.

Rate per person you can check with the property itself - check the description for contact - it all depends what all are the activities you opt for. Basic plans will not cover all activities however the best option would be RD retreat

Brother one question - vidyarambha for kids is understood, but is there any puja that an adult can perform with priests prior to higher studies initiation, eg. prior to MS in US etc.. Do you know anyone in the temple who can help perform that please?
