I called it as soon as I heard it. That is my 2024 song of the year. Even with the new Lovebites EP coming, I don't think any songs can surpass it for me.

This song is fantastic, my favorite from Koiai. I hope they go more in this direction in the future.

Kotono is Japanese and a close friend of Sayametal both were support dancers for Babymetal in 2018. She then was a singer/dancer for Ironbunny where she met Lisa X and Hazuki. After Ironbunny disbanded LisaX was looking for a new singer and Kotono did several promo MV with them before joining the group. LisaX band then became Koiai. Kanade just became their permanent drummer and when she was 14 name one of the top 10 women drummers in Japan. In short Koiai is an all star group.

The lefty base player is Wakazaemon, who played for Mary Friedman's American Tour last year.

Singer is Kotono. Formerly of Ironbunny. She is Japanese and speaks fairly fluent English to her credit. She also plays guitar like every other Japanese woman does. lol.

When you ask Prog Jazz/Fusion folks to play Prog Rock/Metal in Japan, you get this masterpiece! 🦍🍌 Koi - eyee. Waka-san needs to be a permanent guest bass player. Her and Kanade are a great combo. Kotono = ex. Baby metal backup dancer when Yui left (1 of 7)/ Lead G. Iron Bunny. She also plays a mean guitar. So, she can handle the Prog Rock/Metal voice iteration, Po!

That Piano bit in the middle sounded like some old school progressive rock, I picked up what sounded like early psychedelic Genesis music.

Has anyone here heard of Kaizers Orchestra? They were a Norwegian alternative rock band. You’ll see where the slower sections, that many people are calling circus like, come from but it’s actually called cabaret style. I love the way they go from section to section seamlessly.

Koiai is a word, not an acronym.. it means "dark indigo" color in Japanese. Koi... as in "Koi fish"... and "ai" as in "ay ay ay... I hit my pinky in the door!" 😂 Koiai Ta-daa!

Kotono, the vocalist.. she used to be a dancer and back-up voice for Iron Bunny (remember those MVs with Saki?) Kanade Sato, awesome prodigy drummer, used to play in Muses. Add Li-sa-X and Hazuki (Koiai is pretty much them from Li-sa-X band, when they had Rina as vocalist). Wakazaemon is the guest bassist, we know her from East of Eden (southpaw / lefthand player, she does those high kicks 😅) but mostly for being in Marty Friedman's band, and other projects.
