Koh Lipe - Beaches, Walking Street and Nightlife

Shooting: Thailand, Koh Lipe
INFO:
Lipe is a small island located in the province of Satun, in the extreme south of Thailand and near the border with Malaysia. It is located approximately 67 km from the west coast of Thailand and just 35 km from Langkawi in Malaysia. Koh Lipe is one of the 51 islands of the Tarutao Marine National Park archipelago and is one of the most remote in Thailand, close to the southern border of the country. It is accessed mainly from the Thai port of Pak Bara, but there are connections to islands to the north, including Koh Lanta, Phi Phi and Phuket, and to the south to Langkawi.
Far from the mainland, its transparent turquoise waters lap beaches of fine sand. The area is famous for its seabed, a true paradise for snorkelling and diving lovers, and its beaches, corners of natural beauty that are among the most astonishing in the country.
On Koh Lipe temperatures remain constant all year round, with minimums of 23-24°C and maximums of 31-34°C.
There are mainly two seasons:
the high season, from November to April, with warm and sunny weather. All hotels, commercial activities and sea transfers are fully operational. During the peak period, from mid-December to the end of February, it is advisable to book hotels and transfers well in advance.
the low season, from May to October, with a considerable increase in thunderstorms and rainy days. All sea transfers are suspended except two ferries to/from Park Bara. Some hotels and many businesses close. It is a good period for those looking for tranquility and excellent offers.
However, Koh Lipe can be reached by boat at any time of the year from Pak Bara, in Satun province. In high season, fast ferries and speedboats operate to/from Langkawi, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Phuket and other small islands in the Andaman Sea.
For those leaving from the capital it is possible to go by plane or train/bus. The easiest way is to purchase a package that includes: flight from Bangkok to Hat Yai, shuttle to Pak Bara Pier and ferry/speedboat to Koh Lipe. You can contact AirAsia and Nok Air, the journey takes about 5 hours with both companies. Make sure you arrive in time for the last ferry leaving Pak Bara at 3.30pm.
If you don't want to fly, you can go to Hat Yai or Trang by train or bus. In many cases it is cheaper, but travel times are really long (between 12 and 15 hours).
For those leaving from Langkawi, in the high season from the end of October to May, there are two connections from Kuah Jetty and from Telaga Harbor Marine which is the closest pier to Lipe.
Ferries to Koh Lipe in low season (May to October). The only way to reach Koh Lipe during the monsoon season is via a ferry which leaves every day at 11.30am from Pak Bara Pier and arrives on Koh Lipe around 1pm.
Ferries to Koh Lipe in high season (November to April). This season, many services are operating to Koh Lipe. In addition to Pak Bara, which offers additional daily ferries, there are other connections from Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Phuket or Langkawi and even from other smaller islands such as Koh Muk.
The beaches are postcard-perfect. The soft white sands and lush forest of the island complete a perfect backdrop. There are 3 main beaches: Sunrise Beach, Pattaya Beach and Sunset Beach. Added to these are a handful of smaller beaches. The calm, clear water makes the Koh Lipe area ideal for snorkeling. There are great spots just off the beaches. At Sunrise Beach, the best spots are around the two small islands, Koh Kra and Koh Usen. The seabed is shallow up to the two islands, where it quickly sinks. At this point you will be able to see a great variety of marine life..
At Sunset Beach, the most beautiful spots are on the left side where the beach turns into a steep cliff.
